Three Bulldogs Named to CSC Academic All-District Team

SEGUIN, Texas -- Texas Lutheran’s Linzee Leal (Corpus Christi/ Mary Carroll), Sydney Ouellette (Corpus Christi/Gregory-Portland), and Ashlyn Strother (Seabrook/Clear Falls) have been named Academic All-District selections, the College Sports Communicators (CSC), formerly known as CoSIDA, announced on Tuesday.

The Bulldog trio now advances to the CSC Academic All-American ballot, with first-, second-, and third-team Academic All-America honorees announced on June 6.

Leal earned All-SCAC First Team honors for the first time in 2023 as the shortstop ranked second on the club with 42 runs scored and 27 stolen bases and third on the team with 16 walks and .457 on-base percentage in 44 games for the Bulldogs. Leal is a Kinesiology and Theology double major.

Ouellette earns Academic All-District honors for the third time in her career as the right-hander went 8-0 in the circle, posting a 1.31 ERA and four shutouts. In 64 innings, she racked up 23 strikeouts and only walked eight batters. Ouellette, who sports a perfect 4.0 GPA, is majoring in Business Administration with an Accounting focus.

Strother earned SCAC Pitcher of the Year honors for the third consecutive season as the right-hander went 17-2 in the circle and posted a 0.60 ERA and eight shutouts - leading the conference in ERA, strikeouts, and shutouts. Her 0.60 ERA ranks third nationally and she ranks eighth nationally in shutouts. In 117.1 innings, she racked up 118 strikeouts. Another repeat Academic All-District honoree, Strother is majoring in Business Administration with an Accounting focus.

To qualify for the honor, student-athletes must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.50, be a sophomore academically and have a yearin-residence at their current school and have appeared in at least 50 percent of the team’s contests.

The 2022-23 Academic All-District® Softball Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation’s top student- athletes for their combined performances on the diamond and in the classroom.
