In this issue Valerie visits with Tamara “T” Rodriguez a pinup model who started creating pinup style dresses and allowed that to flourish into a platform that helps out many causes in the area. Valerie also met with Jamie Hilbert, owner of Jamielizabeth earrings, who creates little pieces of art to hang on your ears. TAVIE & KADIE ERWIN Share their favorite fashions
T
BY FELICIA FRAZAR
avie and Kadie Erwin, a mother and daughter duo, couldn’t be any more different when it comes to their selections in clothing. While Tavie opts for colorful options and prints, 14-year-old Kadie sticks to more classic styles. The one thing the two do agree on is finding their favorite threads at local shops or through small businesses. “We try to shop small and shop local as much as we can,” Tavie said. “We want to support the community, just like we want the community to support us.” Some of their favorite stops include Gift and Gourmet, Bling, Southern Good, the Gift Shop at the Guadalupe Regional Medical Center and Bealls. Tavie, serves as the hospice director at GRMC and often finds herself wearing scrubs. However, when she’s not wearing the classic medical garb, she’s mixing and matching her outfits like wearing a flower-patterned dress with a leopard print cover. “I love throwing things together,” she said. Inside Tavie’s closest and in a jewelry cabinet is a large collection of earrings and necklaces. “I love jewelry. We love Kendra Scott. Of course, I have several 14 SEGUIN ~ GUADALUPE COUNTY LIVING
of the Bethany necklaces,” Tavie said. “We love our James Avery bracelets.” One of Tavie’s favorite accessories, that she never leaves home without, is her Bucker purse made by Designer Custom Leather. To finish off her outfits, Tavie’s choice of footwear ranges from cowboy boots to Twisted X moccasins and Yellow Box sandals. Her favorite is a pair of boots with crosses on the shaft and scripture on the sole. “They are comfortable, and I get so many compliments on them,” Tavie said. “These are my all-time favorite boots.” On Tuesday and Friday nights, Tavie’s attire switches up to include black and gold in support of the Matadors, including a glittered Matador volleyball t-shirt and matching tote bag. “Some of my Matador gear was made by the Scrub Shop,” she said. Kadie, who is an incoming freshman, said she opts for a more simple, yet classic look. “I like simple styles, I’m not much for the wild colors or animal prints,” she said. Kadie’s attire is dictated by the day and the activities that are planned — sports, showing a steer, going out or just hanging out — particularly her shoes. “For sports I have my tennis shoes, my volleyball shoes,” she said. “Dressing up, I have sandals and then I have boots for showing. I wear my Ariat (moccasins) a lot.” When she is heading into the show ring, Kadie sports blue jeans, a white button down with blue stripes and a hand-painted leather belt with one of the many buckles she has won. “There is a lady that is always in San Antonio and she hand-paints the belts,” Tavie said. “You pick out the colors and it takes about a month or two to get it in.” Kadie’s wardrobe also includes plenty of maroon and white. “I’m a big maroon person,” she said. “I’m a Texas A&M fan.” Much like her mother, Kadie’s every day attire includes Kendra Scott and her James Avery charm bracelet.

Brunswick boat 21 FEET LONG, 8.8 FEET WIDE TWO PIECE CONSTRUCTION WITH A BONDED STINGER SYSTEM WING TUB COLLARS FOR PROTECTION AND BUOYANCY ENGINE: MERCURY VERADO, 4 STROKE 200 HORSEPOWER TOP SPEED: 42.2 MILES PER HOUR

A
new boat is helping game wardens in Guadalupe County better patrol the rivers and lakes here, helping to keep people safe on the waves of our local waterways. Added to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department’s fleet just over a year ago is a Brunswick boat with two-piece construction and a bonded stringer system. Measuring about 21 feet long and 8.8 feet wide, the vessel is foam filled for buoyancy and has wing tub collars for protection and additional buoyancy, Game Warden David Solis said. The additional buoyancy comes in handy when boats speed by causing waves while the game wardens are stopped in the water conducting other business. “When the blue lights are on, people are supposed to slow down for us and not create a hazardous wake,” Solis said. “There is a citation if you don’t slow down. People don’t know that. That’s the biggest thing.”
GUADALUPE COUNTY LIVING ~ SEGUIN 19
The boat can make waves of its own, he said. It weighs 2,300 pounds without a motor or oil, can hold up to 3,200 pounds and stay afloat, and tops out at about 42.2 mph thanks to a 4 stroke, 200-horsepower Mercury Verado outboard engine, Solis said. The vessel can carry up to 12 people and holds up to 60 gallons of gas. At top speed, it burns 17.7 gallons of gas per hour, the game warden said. Watch out for the boat — which can navigate in as little as 16 inches of water, Solis said. “(Lake) McQueeney’s low and because (the boat) is so new, we don’t want to chance it,” he said. “We put the boat on 20 SEGUIN ~ GUADALUPE COUNTY LIVING
the water mostly on the weekends; that’s when people are out recreating.” It has lights, sirens and a horn like other police vehicles you might find on the roads. He and his fellow game wardens in the county use the boat to enforce all of the state’s boating regulations, including boating while intoxicated, the presence of life jackets for everyone on board a vessel and mandatory use of life jackets for children 13 and under, Solis said. Boating regulations, he said, can be found on the TPWD website.

any years ago while visiting my great-aunt she made this amazing pie that I had too have the recipe for, since that day I have made this pie to many times to count. In fact I actually lost the recipe card a few years

DAY TRIP
jellystone
Not your average campground on the Guadalupe
BY ELIZABETH ENGELHARDT PHOTOS BY TAYLER DOYAL & LAURA RIDGE
O
ver the years, our group of friends have loaded up our travel trailers for a weekend getaway — usually opting for Garner State Park. However, this year we decided to revisit one of the first campgrounds we previously ventured to— Yogi Bear’s Jellystone Park Camp-Resort Guadalupe River. It is one of our favorite camping destinations, and it’s nestled in the Texas Hill Country in Kerrville. We’d visited this campsite once before — a couple of years ago — but they’ve made some serious upgrades and improvements to the park since the last time we visited. The first thing we noticed was the addition of four giant water slides next to the water park. When traveling with children of all ages, one of our requirements for our destinations in the summer is a pool or body of water. This park offers both
24 SEGUIN ~ GUADALUPE COUNTY LIVING
as there are several outdoor pools, a water park, water slides, indoor pool and the Guadalupe River. The next thing we noticed was the abundance of cabins that had been constructed. So, even if you don’t own an RV, you can still enjoy Jellystone. There are huge trees throughout the entire park that provide ample shade, which is always nice to have during our famous Texas summers. In addition to all of the water activities, Jellystone offers a full calendar of events and programs for kids and adults. Our boys were never bored. They enjoyed a night game of laser tag and a glow-foam party where they made lots of new friends. The one thing that we absolutely love about this campground is that all of the amenities are built for kids and adults. They incorporate these things for families to do
GUADALUPE COUNTY LIVING ~ SEGUIN 25
together, so whether you’re 5 or 50, you get to enjoy all that Jellystone has to offer. In addition to a waterpark, they have basketball courts and an in-ground jumping pillow — which is always a big hit — mini-golf, a dog park and so much more. There are laundry facilities, a fitness center, wi-fi and cable for those who may not be able to completely unplug. Since Jellystone is a large property, they rent golf carts to allow guests to get where they need to go in a hurry. The kids also love to ride around on the golf carts, which we don’t mind chauffeuring, of course. We typically spend our day by the pool. You can take your own food and drinks into the water park, but if you forget something there is a very well stocked store right at the front entrance that carries just about anything you would need, plus a fun assortment of souvenirs. We love getting a scoop of ice cream from the store after a long day at the pool. There’s just something about Bluebell Ice Cream on a summer day. After we’re done at the pool, it’s back to camp to wash up, rest and get ready for dinner. In our groups, we usually are on our own for breakfast, lunch and snacks and then we each take turns cooking a group dinner. The kids bounce from trailer to trailer and we always pack their bikes and scooters. It’s nice to see them out running around, although, we do travel with most of their electronics, in case of a rainy day. We have had our travel trailer for three years now, and we haven’t ventured outside of more than a three-hour radius from home. We were new to this camping thing, and we’ve been to some pretty fun places here in South Texas. Jellystone has many locations throughout the state and they all have a reputation as one of the best family friendly destinations to visit. I highly recommend the location in Kerrville, it’s a short drive from home and we always come back with wonderful new memories that 26 SEGUIN ~ GUADALUPE COUNTY LIVING

Pinup
Modeling the styles of the 1950’s BY VALERIE BUSTAMANTE
A
white magnolia flower pulled back the side of her violet hair while she sported some bumper bangs. She was dressed in a little blue halter swing dress with a floral pattern looking as if she just stepped off a rockabilly dance floor from the 1950s. However, it’s just a normal day for local model T. Rodriguez. It’s actually a lifestyle. Rodriguez, whose real name is Tamara, first embraced the rockabilly and pinup culture while she was living in Dallas. “I got my ‘66 F-250 in 2014 and started taking it to car shows and started noticing how all the girls dressed and the rockabilly music,” she said. “I fell in love with the whole culture.” It was as if she was born several decades too late, Rodriguez said. “I’m just so passionate about. I think I was born in the wrong era. I like all of the different eras.” she said “I like the 20s. I love the flappers and the 40s. I just love it all. People dressed up more back in the day then they do now. I just really enjoy it. People seem to like it. I always get compliments about my hair and the flowers. I always wear different hair flowers and stuff.” Dressing different was something that was nothing new to Rodriguez, even long before 2014, she said. “I never liked to shop off the rack for stuff and I liked to wear stuff that people didn’t have or don’t see,” Rodriguez said. “So I’d always order stuff online GUADALUPE COUNTY LIVING ~ SEGUIN 29
either way. And then people would always stop me about my jewelry or my clothes asking me ‘Where did you get that? Where did you get that?’ So I was like hey I can make some money off of this.” Closet Couture And she did. With the help of Craigslist and a few Dallas area bars, Rodriguez started selling biker-and pinup-inspired jewelry and clothing. “I started on Craigslist at the very beginning and that kind of got to be a pain because you have to meet people 30 SEGUIN ~ GUADALUPE COUNTY LIVING
and stuff,” she said. “I started putting my stuff into bars at first and the jewelry was just selling. I tried to keep it cheap enough to where it would sell. You know, like $5, $6 for a necklace and it just kind of took off from there.” Rodriguez also began selling her items in different Dallas area stores. Since moving to Guadalupe County, Rodriguez started selling her jewelry at Bait n Brew, Boot Scootin Bar and Harley’s McQueeney Mini Mall in McQueeney. At Harley’s Mini Mall, Rodriguez sells her pinup dresses, which come in a variety of styles and patterns, and other accessories. Rodriguez even custom designs her own dresses.
“I do small up to 5X. Some of the stuff I make is special order because when people order them I try to fit their body,” she said. “I also do flapper outfits. I find out what they want, measure them and they’d pay half down to get it made. Usually, we have to do two fittings because they’ll come in and need alterations. It probably takes a couple of weeks. It’s something fast, that’s for sure.” When it comes to the Pinup style, Rodriguez said style doesn’t matter. “Back in the day curves were in, which is what I like. Nowadays everybody wants to be skinny, but back in the day curvy was sexy and it really is,” she said. “It doesn’t matter your size. Curvy is beautiful.” New Braunfels Pinups Rodriguez’s vintage lifestyle didn’t just stop with her business, Closet Couture. In 2018, she started the New Braunfels Pinups. “The pinup culture is very large in San Antonio and Austin, which is why I wanted to start the New Braunfels Pinups because we’d always have to drive over there,” she said. “I always said we needed something more local. We started with six girls and now we have over 200 members. Not all are active, but we still have 200.” Each month, the group picks a charity, hosts an event and all the proceeds go toward the charity. “I just wanted to give back to the community. I’m so blessed and I have a bunch of friends that love to do the pinup and everything,” Rodriguez said. “So we got to talking and were like we can use the car shows and lifestyle to do something for the community. We’ve done pretty well so far. We’ve had four events and raised $10,000.” Most recently they’ve helped raise money for the Guadalupe Valley Habitat for Humanity and ARF- Animal Rescue Foundation, Rodriguez said. While the group is called New Braunfels Pinups, most of the women are from Seguin, Rodriguez said. “With the New Braunfels Pinups, we have such a great group of women and we all work together for charity and support each other,” she said. “There’s none of that drama. It’s a great group of girls.”

Jamielizabeth Handmade earrings with love

H
ues of purple, violet, orange and turquoise paint transcended upon a small sheet of paper leaving behind the most surreal ink splotches. The paint moved slowly across the paper as Jamie Elizabeth Hilbert blew air through a straw before she spritzed it with a bit of alcohol creating the tiniest bubble detail. Hilbert then placed a wood teardrop template over the miniature painting in search of the perfect pair of earrings for her jewelry business, Jamielizabeth. “We make custom jewelry, but a majority of what we do is earrings. The main product for our jewelry is wood and then we add different elements to make it unique,” Hilbert said. “We inlay cork fabrics and hand-painted paintings on different mediums to make them really unique. Every single one is one-of-a-kind.” While she’s been a crafting enthusiast for more than 10 years, starting Jamielizabeth was not something Hilbert initially planned to do. “Last year we invested as a family in a laser cutter. So this last Christmas when we were trying to come up with something to give our teachers we said, ‘Well, let’s make them some earrings,’” Hilbert said. With a background in marketing, Hilbert designed an earring template on the computer before taking it to the laser cutter to cut out different shapes out of mesquite wood. Hilbert and her mom then took cork fabric and
inlaid it in the wood to make the earrings for the teachers. However, it didn’t stop there. “After we made these cork earrings for our teachers we were sitting around looking at the different paintings she (Hilbert’s Mom) had been doing with my daughter and she took one of my daughter’s paintings and inlaid it in an earring,” Hilbert said. “So that’s how the concept of the painted earrings got started.” Initially, Hilbert had no plans to sell the painted earrings until she posted a few on Facebook. “There was a huge response of people wanting them and that’s how it got started. What I love about them is every one is different and unique,” she said. “There is no two pairs that are exactly a like. It is a one time grab. I can’t make pairs. It’s either you get it or it’s gone, but I think that’s what people love about them is how unique they are.” Hilbert’s earrings are all different in design, size and shape. Her teardrop dangling earrings come in standard, small and mini sizes while the studs are available in hexagon, circle and teardrop. The one thing they all have in common though is how they all start off as mesquite wood. “We take salvaged mesquite wood from people clearing land or if a tree fell over. We take the log and actually get it milled,” Hilbert said. “We take the milled piece and cut it super thin on the saw. Then we plate it, sand it and we finish it. That gives about an eighth-inch thick piece of wood to
GUADALUPE COUNTY LIVING ~ SEGUIN 33
start with. The cool thing is it usually has some raw edges and then the inside is what we use to cut our teardrops out with the laser cutter.” Hilbert said she loves the idea of taking a piece of wood that would have ended up in a fire pit and transforming it into a beautiful piece of jewelry. “We have to clean the cutouts because the laser leaves a lot of char in the inside, but after we insert whatever we’re going to put in whether that be a piece of acrylic or cork,” she said. From the small acrylic paintings she makes, Hilbert tries to cut out as many shapes to inlay in the earrings as possible and whatever is left gets turned into a pendant. “Each one comes from a different section of the painting, which makes each one look different. We’ll try to pair them up with the ones that look the best. If there’s one that doesn’t have a second-half I’ll turn it into a necklace,” she said. In the process of starting up her business, Hilbert has been able to work alongside her mother who has always been an entrepreneur in her own way. “She’s always sold her crafts in different markets and I can remember as a kid going into our little seller’s market to see if there was a check that they had sold of hers,” Hilbert said. “She’s done everything from sewing our clothes to paintings and engraving. I love getting the chance to work with my mom because she’s so creative and she’s very real.” With a pair of strong women at the forefront of Jamielizabeth, Hilbert wants her brand to be one that supports other women. “I’ve noticed when people take a selfie of themselves with my earrings there is so much support from other women being like, ‘Oh those are so cute’ or ‘Those look so good on you,’” Hilbert said. “In a world where there is so much women shaming and mom shaming it is just so nice to see that culture.” Hilbert wants to brand her jewelry around a culture of “everybody is beautiful.” “It doesn’t take a pair of earrings to make you beautiful, but if it takes the pair of earrings to make you feel confident more, power to you,” she said.

Georgia Nickel finds her niche in costume design BY LIZZ DANIELS

alking into a comic convention can be like wandering into another world. Lights, and sounds fill the air, it’s easy to go broke trying to buy all the merchandise and costumed con-goers roam the event, creating an interactive experience unlike any other. Cosplay is the practice of dressing up as a character from a book, movie or video game. It gained popularity in Japan as part of anise culture, but has since broadened into mainstream American nerd

culture and taken on a life of its own. While there are many cosplayers who buy costumes as a way to have fun at the convention, there are those within the community who have turned it into a competitive art. These artisans spend countless hours hand-crafting costumes from scratch that they then enter into contests at conventions. The weekend of May 10, at this year’s Comicpalooza in Houston Seguin High School student Georgia Nickel took home her first cosplay win in the beginner category with her original
character design called “Lady Hades.” “I was originally just trying to come up with a costume for Halloween,” Nickel said. “I wanted wings and liked the idea of something otherworldly, an angel of death. After the process of working on it, I knew I wanted to enter it into a contest.” Although Nickel competed in the beginner cosplay category, she is not new to the hobby. Her first costume was crafted for book character day in middle school. “What really got me into cosplay was when I did a comic book character in seventh grade,” she said. “In 2016 the whole craze with Harley Quinn came about and I got even more into it.” The Harley Quinn costume launched a passion that is shared between Georgia and her mother, Angela Dickerson. All of her costumes, to date, have been crafted through a combined mother-daughter effort which has helped them build a bond to carry them through hard times while sharing a beloved family tradition. “Sewing has been passed down through the women in my family,” Nickel said. “This is my way of connecting with my mom and grandmother. When I started working on the Harley Quinn costume, she was going through chemo. She had cancer and we were both sad, but this was a creative outlet that brought us up.” Nickel has found empowerment through the process of costume creation and cosplay. That confidence carried her to her win in Houston, which was a grueling experience that lasted more than five hours from beginning to end. The first step of her contest was explaining her build process to a panel of judges. After that, she waited for two hours before being called on GUADALUPE COUNTY LIVING ~ SEGUIN 37
stage to strut her stuff in front of a crowd of above 2000 eager fans. “When I walked on stage and they announced my age, the audience made an ‘ooooh’ noise, and it sent shivers up my spine,” she said. “Most other cosplayers are in their late twenties and there was only one other competitor my age. Then I got up and there were so many people, I thought, ‘if I fail this I’ll never forgive myself.’” Nickel slipped into character and captured the audience with her stage presence. Her costume featured black wings that stretched skyward through the use of a discreet pulley system as she lifted her arms. 38 SEGUIN ~ GUADALUPE COUNTY LIVING
The crowd, and the judges loved her. “It was very scary, but also exhilarating to see all those people really love and appreciate the work I’ve done,” Nickel said. “People didn’t look at me and see me, they saw Lady Hades. It was amazing to become someone else.” After taking first place in the beginner cosplay category, Nickel must now move up to the more challenging intermediate category for her next contest. She is more than up to the challenge with her next costume, a unique twist on Catwoman, already in development with the hopes of unveiling it at Comicpalooza 2020.

FOOD on the

MOVE
n this fast-paced, high-tech age, mobility has become key. We carry around little pocket computers and telephones on which we make purchases and have things delivered to us that we never would have imagined we could get on the go. From clothing to electronics to medicines, we are able to get things on the go more readily than ever before. We even are able to get food outside the home and away from the brick-and-mortar restaurants that were all the rage a generation or two ago. Sometimes that means logging into an app and having freaky fast delivery or it could mean using an app and following our favorite mobile eateries to their latest destination. That is what a pair of area food vendors have to offer this community. Both food trucks provide their edible delights out of an

abundance of love, love for the art of cooking and love for serving up scrumptious eats. With Cajun on da Geaux, a love for something that was missing in this area helped drive a couple transplanted from Louisiana to begin cooking and serving the food they knew, loved and missed after moving to Texas. The food truck now pops up at area events and other locations to give Texans access to authentic Cajun culinary delights difficult to find outside of the Bayou state. Carol’s Just Delicious got its name because the owner and operator often can’t help but describe her own palate-pleasing recipes with those two words. She’s not alone. Those who follow the food truck on Facebook think what Carol’s Just Delicious serves is just delicious. So, leaf through the following pages, get an idea of what these mobile restaurateurs have to offer then hunt them down. They shouldn’t be hard to find and it will be well worth the effort.

ubba and Gypsie Judice relocated nearly two decades ago, uprooting from Louisiana and settling down in this part of Texas. There are some things a person can’t take with them when they make a move like that, and, after a while, the Judices began to miss it. “We just missed the food, quite honestly,” Bubba said. “We’ve lived here 18 years now and we missed the food. There was no one anywhere close to this area that knows how to cook genuine, authentic Cajun food.” Since they couldn’t find what they sought anywhere locally, the couple
decided to bring what they wanted here. So about five years ago, the Judices started Cajun on da Geaux, a food truck serving the Cajun delights they missed from back home. “We had the food truck built and off we went,” he said. “We’ve been doing it ever since.” The couple hopes their business will stand the test of time. The recipes they use sure have. Bubba’s great grandfather was a sugar cane farmer decades ago in Louisiana. Each season after selling his crop, his great grandfather would go to New Orleans and spend
a couple weeks each time at hotels in the French Quarter, Bubba said. While there, his great grandfather became good friends with many of the chefs and learned a thing or two. “They’d share their recipes with him,” Bubba said. “He shared those with his wife and my family for the past several generations.” The recipes have stayed in the family and been kept as family secrets for all these years, Bubba said. Now the recipes are prepared on the Cajun on da Geaux truck and served to the general public. They dole out dishes such as gumbo, etouffee, shrimp po’ boys, jambalaya GUADALUPE COUNTY LIVING ~ SEGUIN 41
and boudin. The truck goes to places all around Seguin, several places including, New Braunfels and beyond, Bubba said. And most everywhere it stops, folks clamor for a pair of dishes more than others. “Our two top sellers are fried alligator, and red beans & rice (with) sausage,” he said. “Our gator and our red beans are probably our top sellers everywhere we go. We offer that everywhere we go. When we have fried shrimp po boys, those sell out every time we have them.” The truck peddles a lot of boiled crawfish when it is in season, Bubba said. They also sell scores of Cajunfried turkeys around the Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday season, he said. Cajun on da Geaux attends events in Central Texas and other areas of the state and country. The truck took part in the 2019 Texas Food Truck Showdown in Waco and won its People’s Choice award. “We served 2,000 people that day,” Gypsie said.
Their truck is 35 feet long, 13 feet tall and has two full-sized refrigerators, a full-sized freezer and a 55-inch flat screen TV on the outside, the Judices said. “We have a speaker system,” Gypsie said. “We’re like a party ‘on da geaux.” Cajun on da Geaux is a member of the chambers of commerce in Seguin and New Braunfels.
Carol’s Just Delicious W
hen he first caught wind of the food truck roaming the area, Juan Vigil was warned that the waffles Carol’s Just Delicious sold were out of this world and gigantic. Vigil said he started following Carol’s Just Delicious on social media and learned that there was a definite buzz surrounding the food truck. “She’s friends with a really good friend of mine. He told me about the food truck and to follow it on Facebook,” Vigil said. “I saw a lot of people were looking for the truck. “The waffles are about this big,” he said, making a huge round shape
with his hands, fingertips spread apart. “I had to try them.” So far, Vigil hasn’t been the only one longinh to try the famous waffles. Carol’s Just Delicious food truck has been in operation in and around
Seguin since January, owner Carol Toland said. She and her wife and business partner Susan Stubbs bought the truck, had it renovated to its current specifications and fleshed out the menu ideas. Carol’s Just Delicious serves a
44 SEGUIN ~ GUADALUPE COUNTY LIVING
variety of menu items and the offerings change nearly every time they pull out the truck for the day, Toland said. They use fresh ingredients to enhance the flavor and great taste of nearly all of the dishes, she said. “Mostly everything we make is homemade, even the whipped cream for the waffles,” Toland said. “We also use homemade butter on the waffles.” The truck isn’t always parked in the community and open for business, Toland said. They generally take her out about every three days. The frequency helps to make sure everything served is fresh and ready for consumption. When the pair takes out the truck, it’s usually on Sundays at 10 a.m. for brunch or lunch starting about 11:30 a.m. on some weekdays, Toland said. They typically sell until all of the food is gone, Toland and Stubbs said. The truck shows up at Third Thursdays each month in Seguin, parked behind Gift and Gourmet and serves to the masses, Stubbs said. This summer they provides eats at the Juneteenth event in Seguin and other events around town. In early June, the couple parked Carol’s Just Delicious outside the Seguin Public Library and served lunch. Clara Winters and her 5-year-old granddaughter, Kenzie Dault, both of Seguin, tracked down the truck from a Facebook post. They grabbed that day’s special, a carnitas plate with ultra-light tortillas. “This is the first time I’ve tried this meal,” Winters said. “I’ve had their waffles and homemade ice cream. We’ve liked everything we’ve had so far.” Vigil tracked down the truck that June afternoon at the library. He ordered the carnitas plate, also for the first time. There was no risk in following the social media page, driving to the site and trying something new, Vigil said. “I’ve had their waffles before and, man, they’re great,” he said. “It was well worth it.”
