4TH YEAR | B.K.C, MUMBAI
UNDERSTANDING THE EDGE
BANDRA KURLA COMPLEX WAS MAPPED FORE ECONOMIC, SOCIAL, PHYSICAL LAYERS PRESENT TO IDENTIFY THE INTANGIBLE ASPECTS THAT LENDS THE REGION ITS CHARACTER. THE STUDY THREW LIGHT ON THE PROBLEMS OF ‘GATEDNESS’ A LACK OF IMAGIBILITY AND STANDARIZATION LEADING TO A LACK OF IDENTITY IN MUMBAI’S COMMERICAL HUB.
08
MMRDA reclaimed land to create BKC Bandra Kurla Complex as a substitute to Nariman point for becoming the commerical hub. Land was reclaimed from the estuarine rach of Mithi river. Cleaning trategies and small scale intervention were proposed in order to futher usage of infrastructure by the locals.

Design proposals for blurring the boundary
BKC being a commerical hub, there was a diconnect in residential and commerical area. The interventions lead to blurring of the gap that was created. The streets were dull and had no activity happening. Interventions like designed sound barrier wall and street scpaes lead to making the streets lively.
