It’s in the streets, in your home, in the air. A deep respect for nature that runs through this place, one embodied by the idea of Satoyama—creating communities that co-exist harmoniously with nature.

THE DESIGN PRINCIPLES

Creating communities that co-exist harmoniously with nature. Satoyama embraces the concept of stewardship of the landscape to revitalise the relationship between people and nature.

Encouraging vibrant interactions between people and place. Michi activates the experiential nature of beautiful design. It brings to life the idea that spatial design can enrich all daily activities.

Carefully considering every element of the environment. The belief that through designing the environment as a whole, multiple benefits will be activated.

GOHON NO KI

Ensuring biodiversity through thoughtful native planting. In Japan, Sekisui House’s goal is to plant 1 million trees per year under the Gohon no Ki gardening concept.

It’s in the ribbons of green that bring people and nature together. In the design features that promote sustainability and biodiversity, or the returning of native species to the landscape. Creating an environment for nature to thrive, so we can too.

There’s lots of sustainable innovation here, like environmental monitoring systems, smart water collection and solar energy.

You’ll be living in Sydney’s newest smart city— with Wi-Fi hotspots, smart wayfinding, smart poles and sensor technology. Harnessing the latest innovation for a more efficient way of life.

The rooftop gardens provide shelter for migrating birds and green space for residents.

We make it easy for you to get around with EV charging stations, on-site care sharing services as well as car washing facilities.

1,500 new mature trees planted with a focus on drought-tolerant native species.

Permanent wetlands that boost biodiversity.

Rain gardens used for on-site water treatment.

There’s Japanese quality in every touch.

Here, there’s a commitment to lasting quality that runs deep—one backed by decades of global expertise. It’s a culture of careful consideration and precise craft. A desire to bring people from all generations together, fostering rich intergenerational communities. A vision to generate new ideas and regenerate old connections with nature, including a care for Country and traditional stories.

Melrose Park is the embodiment of a rich Japanese heritage, with our global design principles informing everything we do. This unique approach is symbolised in the Melrose Park logo inspired by the practices of ‘mizuhiki’ and ‘shimenawa’—traditional Japanese knot tying crafts used to symbolise a connection to each other, to community and to place.
