There’s future foresight all around.
There’s deep respect for nature that runs through this place. It’s central to the approach of Sekisui House—one of Japan’s most respected homebuilders and a global leader in
sustainable development for over 60 years.
The overall design of Melrose Park, from masterplan through to landscapes and apartments, is informed by the Sekisui House Design Philosophy. Harnessing global expertise to create a place that’s actively resilient and regenerating for the future.
• Satoyama - Creating communities that co-exist harmoniously with nature.
• Michi - Encouraging vibrant interactions between people and place.
• N x Yutaka - Carefully considering every element of the environment.
• Gohon No K - Ensuring bio-diversity through thoughtful native planting.
With over five hectares of open space across the neighbourhood, you’ll never be more than a 2-minute walk from nature. Sydney’s largest new urban park, right in the middle of the neighbourhood, will be an immersive environment promoting connectivity.
Over 1400 mature trees will be planted, with a focus on drought-tolerant native species.
This is in addition to the retention of over 20 heritage trees and 60 mature trees significant to the site.
Sekisui House is working with City of Parramatta for Smart City initiatives across the precinct— with WiFi hotspots, smart wayfinding, smart poles and sensor technology. Harnessing the latest innovation for a more efficient way of life.
Thriving Wetlands
The creation of permanent wetlands will provide a natural extension of nearby riverside ecosystems and a boost to biodiversity, with additional rain gardens within the street network to assist with water quality.
At Melrose Park, meaningful sustainability means designing with a long-term plan to keep improving the environment and evolving for generations to come.
Roof-top solar panels will supply individual buildings with power across the neighbourhood—further reducing reliance on the grid and contributing to a 7 star NaTHERS energy rating across the entire masterplan.
Hot water uses a lot of energy. All developments and public amenity at Melrose Park utilise super-efficient gas hot water systems, which use up to 30% less energy that standard systems. Reducing carbon emissions by up 1,900 tonnes per year.
A dedicated energy network brings together renewables, grid supply, gas and water in a holistic system designed to increase energy efficiency. The network is overseen by smart meters used to optimise consumption, while bulk purchase of gas and electricity benefit the whole community.
Growing your own food is a great way to reduce the environmental impact of what we eat. On-site community gardens will allow you to pick the freshest ingredients for dinner and will feature organic recycling. All green spaces will utilise smart irrigation too.
Social car sharing is a win-win situation for both you and the planet. At Melrose Park, you can enjoy the convenience of Go-Get cars when you need them, without the ongoing costs that come with owning your own vehicle. Reducing the number of cars on our streets is also one of the fastest ways we can reduce our greenhouse gas emissions.
Energy is one of life’s biggest ongoing expenses. Through our partnership with energy retailers, all Melrose Park residents will have the opportunity to save money by joining our embedded energy network.
All buildings utilise smart technology to minimise energy consumption, such as sensor and control systems that can activate systems only when required. This includes LED lighting and car park ventilation fans.
Cycling is another great way to lower emissions while also improving your health. Melrose Park has been designed as a cycle-friendly community, with extensive dedicated cycleways and secure storage options provided throughout the precinct.
Melrose Park is well connected by public transport to both Sydney and Parramatta. The free Melrose Park shuttle bus can connect you with train or ferry services, while over 2000 buses service the neighbourhood every week. The approved Metro West light rail will also stop at Melrose Park, connecting to the two CBDs.
