What's On in SPH Lippo Village
MerryChristmas!
I enjoy the music of Christmas. Growing up, my family and I spent a lot of time around our piano singing and making music. Perhaps this is why the lyrics of songs speak to my heart and capture my imagination. When I hear a familiar song or a new song with thoughtful words, it plays over and over in my mind causing me to reflect on the words and enjoy the melodies. In a recent teacher and staff chapel we sang Yet Not I but Through Christ in Me.
For the next several days the lyrics came to my mind, especially during the quiet of the night – refrains of God’s love, promises, and truth: God’s gift of grace, my Redeemer! How strange and divine, all is mine. My Savior’s faithfulness is displayed through His power in my weakness. Christ is our faithful Shepherd in times of great need and challenge. He paid my pardon and has overthrown the grave. Lord help me to long to follow You with every breath, knowing my joy is only fully complete in you
As we enjoy the Christmas break, I pray for safety in your travels or time away. I pray for rest and a change of pace from the busyness and hard work God has called you to, that you have time to reflect on God’s incredible love that He sent His Son so that we might know Him and be redeemed. I also pray you and your family can enjoy the songs of Christmas that remind us of the truth of John 1, "And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen His glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth."
Many songs of Christmas remind us of God’s gift of our Redeemer, Jesus Christ born on Christmas Day. Born to die that we might have life! It is our joy and privilege to grow in our understanding of this truth in our LV community and beyond with our friends, family, and co-workers. May the joy of Christmas be fully yours through knowing Christ as your personal Savior.
Because He is faithful, GreggThompson

arise, shine!
SPH LV Christmas Market 2022
“Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord rises upon you.”
(Isaiah 60:1)
This school year, we have been reflecting on and uncovering more about this verse as a community. This is why the school and the PAG Team chose this theme for this year's Christmas Market. Christmas is a special season for us as we celebrate the joy that comes with the true meaning of Christmas - the birth of our Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ! We want to rise and let this good news shine to our extended community within the SPH and YPPH family
We celebrated Christmas as a community with various segments filling the two-day event. People enjoyed shopping around and buying Christmas gifts for dear ones. Everyone had the opportunity to reflect on the meaning of Christmas at the Christmas Tree Lighting. Children were invited to hear the Christmas story through the eyes of a shepherd boy, brought by our Head of School, Mr. Gregg Thompson's reading of a children's Christmas book.
Our LV parents also put in a lot of effort in setting up different kinds of student performances for our community. From a skit about Christmas to violin performances by our little violinists, the performances were a complete package! The fantastic Open Mic performances by teachers, staff, and parents were memorable as well.
Proceeds from this Christmas Market ticket sales will go to Yayasan Mahija Nusantara, an institution supporting waste pickers' well-being across Indonesia.

Why Debate Matters For Our MYP Students AGREE OR DISAGREE?
Agree or Disagree? This is a common question students often ask as they prepare for their debates on a particular topic.
For SPH students, a debate session in English class is an activity they feel anxious about. Am I articulating my thoughts accordingly? Are my arguments strong enough? So many questions run through their minds as they begin to prepare their position.
According to Ms. Namishka, one of our MYP English teachers, debates are essential in helping students develop their communication skills, as they learn to become persuasive speakers and keen listeners. Debates also give students a platform for critical thinking to deal with various types of evidence and warrants, especially in rebuttals.
As Christians living in a fallen world, we will encounter differences of opinion all around us. Learning the wise way to approach these differences with the spirit of debate rather than the spirit of argument is crucial. Through this activity, we want students to show their love to the person on the other side of the issue and try to understand their perspective while staying firm in their convictions.

iT'S CHRISTMAS!
Junior School Home Concert 2022
As a part of our Ministering Arts tradition, our Junior School held a home concert to showcase their musical talents. Students and teachers poured out hours and hours of practice to show parents, families, and guests their progress and improvements.
From Strings, Choir, Ballet to Creative Music, we were amazed to see how the students embraced this concert to show what they have been practicing and learning to their families. We were also surprised to see special performances from Grade 10 drama students and Junior School teachers, who successfully delivered an original and meaningful puppet show about the Grinch and Christmas, which hooked their juniors with their performance.

See, Rejoice, Worship!
Whole School Christmas Celebration
“And behold, the star that they had seen when it rose went before them until it came to rest over the place where the child was. When they saw the star, they rejoiced exceedingly with great joy. And going into the house, they saw the child with Mary, his mother, and they fell down and worshipped him. Then, opening their treasures, they offered him gifts, gold and frankincense, and myrrh.” (Matthew 2:9-11)
Our theme for this year's Whole School Christmas Celebration was, “See, Rejoice and Worship!” (Matthew 2:9-11).
As a community, we reflected on the meaning of Christmas at our annual Christmas Assembly. We were privileged to have Mr. Matthew Mann, our Executive Director, share the Christmas message with all of us. He reminded us what it means to be on a quest to search for Jesus. Just like the wise men, we are also foreigners searching for the greatest joy in life. Jesus called us to search for Him, and as we finally find Him, we are called to glorify Him and enjoy Him forever.
With the back-to-back events, from Christmas Market, Junior School Home Concerts, to the Whole School Christmas Celebration, we thank God for His providence in guiding us. We hope as we are approaching Christmas this year, we can keep reflecting on and praying about the true meaning of Christmas What a great joy Jesus is for us!

Meet Tristan from Grade 8
Did you know the PORPROV Banten 2022 Fencing Champion is a student at LV?
We are so proud of Tristan, one of our Grade 8 students, and we want to congratulate him for winning a bronze medal at PORPROV Banten 2022 in Fencing for Men's Group.
PORPROV Banten is a sports competition to find high-achieving athletes. From this competition, athletes can advance to the next level, which is National Sports Week (PON).
For most people, fencing is a peculiar sport to pursue, with only a few finding it interesting. However, Tristan is different. At first, he was skeptical about trying the sport, but as he practiced consistently, he grew to love fencing. As the youngest athlete and having only been training consistently for six months, Tristan proved his hard work and countless hours of practice have become fruitful
When asked what advice he could give to students interested in fencing, Tristan confidently said, "Fencing is a fresh experience and it is an interesting sport. It is also a sport I want to pursue in the future. Most of the time, fencing is hard, and sometimes you are too tired to practice, but keep training consistently until you have gotten used to it."

#Classof2022 Alumni Stories
Inspired people inspire others.
Have a read and/or listen to what our alumni had to say about our exceptional community at SPH Lippo Village.
Meet Rayner Lee, our recent graduate, who shared his fondest memories from his 15 years at SPH!
For Rayner, the school has given him the complete package: freedom and guidance. This was one of the meaningful things he remembered about the school. Being able to explore his passion for science while receiving thorough guidance and support from qualified mentors has made him who he is today. He also greatly enjoyed his time of discovering, exploring, and expressing his faith in school.
At SPH Lippo Village, we give endless opportunities for your child to get involved in the community and thrive while they are at it. Our tight-knit community has left fond memories in the minds of hundreds of alumni and families.
We will keep and preserve this closeness of our community for the future and many generations to come!

3 Reminders for this christmas season
SPH Blog at SPH.EDU/BLOGS/
When talking about the most celebrated holiday, are we all thinking about Christmas? As a Christian school, Sekolah Pelita Harapan (SPH) has the privilege to really put this festive holiday on full display, loud and proud. Christmas has become the long-awaited holiday season for everyone. It is a time when everyone gets to go on holidays, budget big spending for things on their wish list, and reunite with dear ones. All these things are not necessarily wrong. However, what if they become the only things that matter during Christmas?
While Christmas is the most celebrated holiday, let us be reminded to keep the main thing, the main thing. And that is Jesus!
