Medical Elective Fund Lectures and Dinner On 27th February Dr Bob Whitaker (SE 1957 and Emeritus Fellow) hosted an evening, along with Selwyn College's medical students, to highlight the work done recently by medics who have travelled abroad during the summer break. The evening was a great opportunity for current and former medical professionals to see what opportunities are now available to medical students at Selwyn College. New Selwyn Choir CD The Selwyn College Chapel Choir accompanied by Onyx Brass, organist Timothy Parsons, and directed by Sarah MacDonald, is featured on a recently released new CD - "Phillip Cooke Choral Music". And finally...have a look at our Archive Images of the Month which now have their very own Flickr Page. This month's image is the concert programme of a special Smoking Concert held in 1914 to celebrate the Tercentenary meeting of the Controversialists. The Society was founded in February 1893 according to a note in the first surviving minute book which is dated 1897. The object of the society, according to the rules pasted into volume 2 in 1909, was "the reading and discussion of English poetry and drama". The total number of members could not exceed 12 although this number appears to have been increased later. Meetings were held on Sundays in Michaelmas and Lent terms and also in May if a quorum of five members could be arranged. The Society badge was a lyre and it is unclear how long the Society continued in existence.
