Self Help Africa, with partner Imani Development, are the fund managers for ENTERPRISE Zambia, a new five year agribusiness support initiative that will invest ₏26m in the sector over the next five years. The project is part of the EU Zambia’s ABSO programme to support increased participation of smallholder farmers in market-integrated, nutrition-sensitive value chains and improved access to finance, services and inputs as well as investment opportunities.

Objective ENTERPRISE Zambia is a collaboration between Self Help Africa (SHA) and Imani Development, to establish a challenge fund to contribute to increased smallholder farmers opportunities in agriculture and aquaculture value chains in Zambia. ENTERPRISE Zambia will increase investment in agriculture (including fish farming) by providing grants to support agribusinesses with the potential to benefit smallholder farmers. It will also support better access to financial services. The design ensures

that financial support incentivises greater smallholder farmers commercialisation and integration into value-chains and generates employment opportunities, particularly for women and youth, by requiring lead firms to invest in their supply chains, and support producers, improve infrastructure and services, and facilitate the creation and strengthening of smallholder farmers and agribusiness associations. Companies will also be supported with measures that improve their operating environment.
