Motherhood Session Event Wardrobe Guide

Messes of Dresses LONG, FULL-LENGTH, FLOWY dresses and skirts look amazing on camera because they bring extra movement to the photos. Especially when juxtaposed with nature, like the ocean, trees or fields. Consider softer fabrics like chiffon or tulle which allow for beautiful movement in the images. When considering the length of your dresses or skirts, it's also a good idea to factor in whether or not there will be little ones in your photos. With smaller children, we'll likely have you sitting or crouching on the ground to interact up-close with them. Cute, shorter cocktaillength dresses photograph beautifully, but if you have little ones in your photos, a floorlength dress or skirt, or perhaps a cute midi-skirt, will make moving around with your kids much easier, and look perfect on camera, too. If you're an expecting mother, we always recommend floor-length gowns or maxi dresses. These dresses create the best silhouettes to flatter your figure and really highlight your bump. Dresses and skirts look most stunning because they really flatter every female body, especially on camera - which is probably why the red carpet is always full of so many dresses and not very many pantsuits! We recommend avoiding pants and shorts for your session, and saying YES to a dress instead.

Beautiful Mama IN OUR EXPERIENCE, every woman, regardless of her shape has an area of her body that she's self conscious about, so recognizing what area that is in advance is key. Choosing flattering silhouettes and colors that compliment your natural features is the best way to ensure you'll love the way you look in your photos.

THREE-QUARTER LENGTH sleeves create an awesome slimming effect on all arms, so be on the lookout for an option with a longer length sleeve. You could also bring a cute jacker, blazer or cardigan along, too. Skinny straps or strapless dresses have the opposite effect on arms on camera, so we recommend avoiding those whenever possible if your goals is a self slimmer-looking arms. WEAR COMFORTABLE SHOES, but pretty ones! If your toes are showing, you might want to schedule a pedicure (and manicure!) before your session so you don't regret letting your feet show. These little tricks make all the difference!

Color Coordinating WHEN CHOOSING COLORS FOR YOUR OUTFITS I recommend selecting your outfit first and choosing a color that matches your eyes and compliments your hair. That being said, I love all kinds of colors and I believe it's more about coordinating than choosing one color! There should be a slight mix of patterns and solids and pops of color with accompanying neutrals. I love when moms and girls where florals and boys wear simple, solid colors. But, if you love a dress in a solid color, go for it and have your daughter(s) be in the floral pattern.

For this location, avoid bright greens and go with blues, soft pinks, even deep mustard yellow and oranges are great because they contrast the greenery nicely. Girls won't need headbands because we will have the florals prepared for them!

Babies: Simple styles like onesies are classic Diaper covers tights as opposed to exposed diaper Avoid big characters and logos (ie. "GAP") Birthday suit (naked) Classic Patterns (polka dots or soft flowers as opposed to bright patterns)

Kiddos: Layered looks are great Brights and fun prints Avoid loud characters or logos (ie. "Brother" or monkeys) Accessories: hats, scarves, a lovey Clothes should be fitted, not baggy Bare feet or fun shoes (no sandals)

Session Timeline Preparing for the Session: Take any unease out of the session by talking to your kids about how much fun you're going to have together and that their only "job" is to be themselves. Sometimes planning a fun dinner or ice cream outing after the session is a way to get kids excited! Pack an emergency bag with drinks, snacks, wipes, favorite lovies and any extra clothes you might need for the kids. We will have some goodies as well, but it's good for you to bring any favorite snacks or toys for them to have while you get your makeup done. Work with your kids early on with wardrobe. Support their choices with latitude and gentle guidance to give them confidence and make the process more fun. If buying new outfits, keep them hung up in the side of the closet to avoid unnecessary wrinkles or stains.

At the Session: Arrive on time for your session, dressed, with a clean face and your hair done. If you booked your session for 9:30, your makeup will be until 10 AM and your session will be from 10-10:15. Your session will give us plenty of time to play and relax so I can capture beautiful images of you with your kiddo(s). A week after your session you can expect to receive an email with a link to your private online gallery displaying all of the images from your session (you can expect 10-15 images total). You'll be able to download your included 3 High Res files and have the option to order the entire gallery and various prints.
