Our mission at SelfMadeHero is simple: to publish works that “provoke, entertain, inspire, and inform through the medium of the graphic novel”. In the six years since its inception, SelfMadeHero has become a leading light of the graphic novel renaissance and the most successful publisher of “literary and non-fiction comics” in Britain. In 2012 we launched our first vinyl toy FROGSLEGS, a special tie-in with our bestselling title of 2012, The Nao of Brown. Spring 2013 sees the launch of The Murder Mile, a pacy mystery by Paul Collicut set in the world of long-distance running; a new series, Art Masters, with a beautiful graphic biography, Rembrandt, from Dutch artist Typex; a new Eye Classic in the form of The Man Who Laughs, adapted by David Hine and illustrated by Mark Stafford; the hilarious second part of Rob Davis’s acclaimed Don Quixote; a return to H.P. David Zane Mairowitz is an author, playwright, radio director, and translator. As a professional freelance writer for 40 years, his published works include: Introducing Kafka (with Robert Crumb), Introducing Camus, and Wilhelm Reich for Beginners. He previously adapted Dostoevsky’s Crime and Punishment and Kafka’s The Trial for SelfMadeHero. Jaromír 99 is a Czech singer, songwriter, and artist who is best known for his work with Jaroslav Rudis on the comics trilogy Alois Nebel. Alois Nebel was turned into an animated feature of the same title that premiered to great acclaim at the Venice Film Festival, and was selected as the Czech entry for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film in 2011, and has won Best Animated Feature Film in the European Film Academy’s awards. 1

It was during his work on Batman that he discovered that the original appearance of the Joker was based upon Gwynplaine’s likeness in the 1928 film adaptation of The Man Who Laughs. Mark Stafford is a cartoonist-in-residence at the Cartoon Museum. He has collaborated with Bryan Talbot on the second Cherubs! graphic novel, painting dead hillbillies and writing about cinema for Electric Sheep magazine.
