Midsummer Day 1915 FRED GREENE CARPENTER (AMERICAN, 1882-1965) Oil on canvas, signed lower left. A fantastical interior genre scene having three female figures in a lavish setting. A nude red-haired beauty reclines next to a silver tea service as a woman with a bowl of berries yields to a pet parrot whilst yet another woman sorts through jewelry; label to verso from St. Louis Art Museum. SUSIE DROZDA COOPER Born in 1942 and raised in the St. Louis area, Cooper was a prolific creator and well known Native American artifact collector with her husband, Jim Cooper. Susie’s interest in art and object began at a very young age. She could be found loose in the creek beds at age 4, or horseback riding through the woods where she would inevitably develop her craft by utilizing organic materials as medium. Now working primarily with pigments, wax, and resin, Susie’s work is considered as guardian and healer to the audience. Her work has been represented in galleries across the country and has gained accolades from collectors worldwide.
