A VERY SCARCE AND IMPORTANT KESI THANGKA OF GURU RINPOCHE EIGHT MANIFESTATIONS OF PADMASAMBHAVA WITH SHUNZHI EMPEROR SIX-CHARACTER PRESENTATION MARK Tibeto-Chinese, 17th/18th century, gold thread emroidered panel of well coloured silk. Central to the massive panel sits the principle of Tibetan Buddhism, Guru Rinpoche (Padmasambhava) on a multi-colored lotus throne emerging from the waters of Lake Dhanakosha. Surrounded by the eight manifestations at different forms in his life and the eight great Bodhisattvas, Guru Rinpoche with celestial sun and moon halos is adorned in lotus head dress having vajra top and inserted vulture feather representing the realization of the highest possible view. Wearing a dark blue mantrayana tunic, crimson monastic shawl with flowers at mid-section, wrapped in gold and maroon silk brocade cloaks, Padmasambhava has a piercing yet somewhat benevolent gaze. While holding a vajra to the side in his right hand, a kapala skull cup with the vase of longevity in his left hand gesturing equanimity, his iconographic katwanga staff with glowing trishula top decorated in white streamers and three severed heads rests cradled at his left shoulder. Flanking Guru Rinpoche are representations of his two main karmamudra consorts, Mandarava holding longevity symbols and vase, and Yeshe Tsogyal, the embodiment of his katwanga staff, holding up a kapala offering bowl. Fulfilling the encirclement and interspersed thoughout are cranes, ducks, deer, landscape and colorful billowing clouds as well as the eight manifestion forms and the enflamed wrathful dharmapala dieties clothed in tiger skins and crowns of skulls. Finely embroidered to the upper right is a vertical six character presentation mark of Shunzhi. Estimate: $30,000 - $50,000

AUTOMATON ENAMELED BIRD MUSIC BOX Continental, ca.1900. Several marks to the bottom includes British Import Marks of "T.C&Sn - LTD" with ".925" and other hallmarks. Switch activated hinged top opens to automaton bird prompting a melody. The top beautifully enameled with game birds, other fowl, and a musical Pan figure seated in a tree. All over enamel work showing cobalt panels centering nesting birds and fruit to front and back, the sides with diamonds. All four sides flanked by silvered foliate medallions on a green field. Estimate: $2,000 - $4,000
