2. SHAPE

Saddles come in many shapes and sizes, but they can all simply be categorized into four main shape groups. Learn the traits of each shape and what they are designed for. Which one sounds like what you need?

T-SHAPE: saddles have an abrupt nose-to-wing transition, resulting in a longer nose. Additionally, they also have a flatter profile. This provides more inner-leg clearance as well as multiple comfortable fore-to-aft sitting positions. T-shape saddles give riders the ability to easily alter their sitting position during the ride, moving towards the nose when adopting a more forward, aerodynamic riding position and moving back when riding more upright. V-SHAPE: saddles flare from the nose to rear more gradually, like an arrowhead or a pear. They usually have a waved side profile, too. The sloping tail cradles the lower back while the gradual taper assists the rider with pelvic rotation, bringing them more forward. 5. SIZE

Once you’ve identified your ideal saddle, the final step is to pick the right size. Most of our saddles are available in two widths. Saddle size is primarily influenced by sitting position on the bike something that can be determined with a thorough bike fitting. Without this process, however, sit-bone distance measurements can also act as a good saddle-size indicator. For this, you can use our dedicated in-store tool together with our saddle size charts—or you can use our online saddle finder at home, and we’ll help recommend the right size for each of our saddle models.

It’s an advanced woven fabric that interlaces lightweight nylon fibers with filaments of thermoplastic polymer. This blend of threads creates a material with an open, net-like pattern that is extremely airy, yet highly resistant and resilient. Aeroweave is a malleable material, and moves to effectively cradle the foot, but its tenacity delivers the support and containment required for a high performance racing shoe.

PureGrip Compound is derived from an activated Silica compound and is a good example of how we integrate customer feedback continuously into our research and development. Tires engineered with PureGrip can be found in our Performance products in our road and mountain bike ranges.

PolyX Breaker™

With PolyX Breaker™ car expertise comes to the bicycle tire sector. Polyester has been used successfully for years in car tires and has proved extremely effective. The extremely resistant polyester fibre is woven tightly crosswise. A very high fabric density is achieved which makes the breaker resistant not only to foreign bodies, but especially to punctures. The rolling resistance is not affected by this breaker.

Mit dem PolyX Breaker™ bringen wir Pkw-Know-how ins Fahrradreifensegment. Polyester wird bereits seit Jahren erfolgreich in Autoreifen eingesetzt und hat sich dort vielfach bewährt. Die extrem widerstandsfähige Polyesterfaser wird engmaschig über Kreuz gewebt. NyTech Breaker

The Nytech Breaker is based on the technology of our Safety-System puncture protection. Made of nylon fibre and similar to Kevlar, it reliably protects against punctures and cuts. It also has particularly low rolling resistance and reduced weight, perfect for our performance range of road tires.

Vectran™ Breaker

The reference for puncture protection: Vectran™ is spun from liquid crystal-polymer. This way a thermoplastic, multiple-thread yarn is created. As a comparison: this partially crystalline fabric is more cut-resistant than aramide and its tensile strength is five times higher than that of steel. A Vectran™ Breaker is lighter, more flexible and effective against cuts than a comparable nylon breaker. There is no detrimental effect on rolling resistance.

DuraSkin®

Tyres with DuraSkin® sidewall protection can take a beating as they are designed for the most adverse conditions. In rough terrain on a cyclocross or a gravel bike, on commuter bikes where tyres scrape along curbs, on touring bikes as they cross continents encountering many different road qualities and on the race circuit where they prove themselves in endurance events such as the Paris-Roubaix. The high-quality polyamide fabric reliably protects the wall of the tyre. Tyres with DuraSkin® can be identified by the characteristic brown mesh sidewall.

This rugged rubber breaker, combined with the rubberreinforced sidewalls of the tire, ensures a high level of puncture protection and sidewall abrasion. SafetySystem

The SafetySystem Breaker consists of a Kevlar-reinforced, high-strength nylon fabric. Puncture and cut resistant, whilst also being light and flexible, allowing the tire to adapt more effectively to the terrain. The breaker protects the carcass against foreign objects and contributes to a longer lifespan of the tire without significantly increasing weight or rolling resistance. Additionally, tires with SafetySystem have particularly comfortable handling characteristics.

Specially designed for e-bikes up to 50 km/h, we have combined our SafetySystem Breaker with a highly flexible natural rubber. The result is an extremely cut and puncture resistant breaker ply which has a low rolling resistance thanks to its high elasticity. This helps saving battery life and the environment. For our E-Bike tire we fall back on over 100 years’ experience with moped and motorcycle tires. All of our city/trekking tires are rated to a standard speed of at least 25 km/h. Those tires marked e50 are also certified for S-Pedelecs. With their high quality structure, puncture protection is high and the rolling resistance is low offering protection from premature wear brought about by the additional driving force.

Our Tubeless Ready [TR] tyres can be used with tubes or sealant. Tyres and rims are designed in such a way that when used together they seal easily. For safety reasons only use wheels designed to be Tubeless Ready. TR tyres have an altogether lighter design. Their sidewalls are less permeable for air and are sealed with a special sealant, for example Conti RevoSealant.
