the reconaedicule is an attempt to create a mini pavillion where two people can have an intimate conversation while also serving as a piece of art or gathering point. The reconaedicules maximum dimensions were 4’x8’ in plan with a height maximum of 8’. the project could also only be comprised of two materials and one type of fastener. MY group and i decided to use 2x2 pieces of lumber for a skeletal structure, and shroud it in sheets to create organic forms. in order to add another dimension to the sheets we chose to harden them with a mixture of water and glue that would cement the positioning we gave the sheets. this gave us the ability to have some overhangs and textures on the surface of the sheets that would have been impossible otherwise. the draping of the shhets is inteded to be reminiscent of renaissance sculptures like Michelangelo’s Pieta. application

MAISON RECETTE

maison recette is a residential project based n the city of johnson, Arkansas, in the northwest corner of “the natural state. the site is quite large and covered in greenery, with a trail that leads to a small creek to the south.. The proposal is for an older couple living alone, so the footprint is relatively small. i also used the existing footings of a demolished barn that was previously on the site as the foundation for the new construction. the major design intent for this project was views & connection to nature. this is achieved by having a glazed southern facade. the stair splits the plan between kitchen/living space and bedrooms, while also being a choreographed promenade taking people from the opaque upstairs to a reveal of the expansive view towards the creek a bit south. this feature is highlighted by a monitor above.

CHICAGO’S LOGAN SQUARE MARKET IS A COMMUNITY STAPLE ON THE WEST SIDE OF CHICAGO, WHERE RURAL FARMERS COME TO SELL THERE PRODUCE IN THE CITY. MY PROPOSAL FOR THIS MARKET FOCUSED ON KEEPING THE SITE FREE FLOWING FROM END TO END MAKING IT EASY FOR FARMERS TO BRING IN THEIR CROPS AND EASY FOR CUSTOMERS TO INTERACT WITH THE FARMERS. THIS PROJECT ALSO FOCUSES ON WAY-FINDING AND MAKING A LAND MARK. WITH THE USE OF THE COLOR SPECTRUM, APPLIED TO THE OPAQUE WALLS OF THREE PORGRAM BLOCKS INCLUDING BATHROOMS, STORAGE, AND A CAFE. THE COLORS HELP VISITORS NAVIGATE THE 45,000+ SQUARE FOOT SITE. AT NIGHT THE COLORS OF THE BLOCKS SHINE THROUGH THE TRANSLUCENT SKIN OF THE TRUSS STRUCTURE. FINALLY I TRIED TO KEEP A SENSE OF COMMUNITY BY LEAVING THE COMMUNITY GRAFFITTI WALL IN TACT AND VISIBLE THROUGH THE TRUSS STRUCTURE WHICH SITE AS LITTLE AS POSSIBLE. TOUCHES THE GROUND

This proposal focuses on urban response, and architectural promenade. On my site visit, there were two things that I immediatley noticed, and wanted to preserve. First, there was a gap between the church and the free standing facade; as well, there was a direct view from 156th stret up on to Audubon Terrace 30 fet up. In order to work these characteristics of the place into my design, i went with the two bar typplogy. The gap between the two bars of program is used as a means of promenade, as well as a visual connection betwen the terrace and 156th street; and also serves as a conection zone betwen the two program bars, where there are floating cross walks. The mystery of a gap in a congested city like New York was another driving soUrce in my formal choice, using the two bar scheme, I set one of the bars back 10 feet to preserve the intrigue of that gap. On top of the formal, and promenade ideas, I wanted to have an urban response in the materials used in the building, that would change just like Manhatan and Audubon terrace. Because the building is already so different from its Beaux-Arts counterparts that surround it on the terrace, the choice was made to use copper, whic/h will give the building a changing face as diferent generations inhabit and use the library; while also connecting to the roftops of thesurrounding Beaux-Arts roofotps

21 c hotels are on the leading edge of a new programmatic type. the art hotel. the 21 c mixture of art museum, hotel, and restaurant is one that is difficult to of each program towards the street and left the three areas completely open in plan. I did this so that when a visitor came to stay at the hotel, visit the g center of Fayetteville, Arkansas, the city hub of restaurants and bars. pushing the public program to the street allows the ability for the building to be an e wood construction, so the structure of this project is planned to be of clt load bearing walls and columns. the implementation of the wood is executed more wood creates a louvred effect on the facade creating a dynamic play on light when driving or walking by. the dark nature of the wood makes the hotel bloc wooden slats hung from the ceiling, that connect the space visually floor to floor over the three floors cascading the 14 foot drop of the site. from east to

o execute without seeming awkward. in order to not separate the three programs with solid walls, I blended them together by pushing the public functions gallery, or eat at the restaurant the program feels holistic as opposed to bashed together. the given site is at the top of Dickson street, the entertainment extension to the street, by remaining low to the ground at a human scale and transparent to animate the street. the semester focus for this project was e in the detailing of the facade and public space ceiling system. the facade is made of charred wood to limit the need for maintenance, the placement of the ck disappear into the night further pushing the bright public space to passersby. finally, to connect the public spaces together, the ceiling system is a series of o west. the slats also double as a screen for the building systems that will heat cool and control acoustics in the open public volume.
