Circulation Policies Students can borrow books for two weeks, and they can be renewed for one additional week. Parents may check out up to 5 books for two weeks. Patrons will be charged a replacement fee for books that are lost or damaged. If lost books are found, the money will be refunded. Primary students need to bring an ISHCMC library bag or other type to carry books; otherwise, they will not be permitted to borrow.

Borrowing Limit EE4: 1 item K – Grade 2: 2 items Grade 3: 3 items Grade 4: 4 items Grade 5: 5 items Secondary: 10 items (excluding textbooks) Parents: 7 items Library items are borrowed for 2 weeks and renewable for 1 additional week.

**If students are leaving ISHCMC, their borrowing priviledges end 2 weeks before their departure date – they cannot borrow books in their final 2 weeks at ISHCMC**

Destiny OPAC Features Login All ISHCMC faculty have been issued usernames and passwords to log into Destiny Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC). Please consult the email that has been sent for login details.

Databases

Destiny’s Homepage has online resources for all grade levels. There are 2 categories arranged in alphabetical order.

Circulation ISHCMC faculty has permission to check out items & return them. Click on the tab circled in red:

Items to be checked in & out include: •

Guided Readers & Home Readers (in hallway cupboards)

Materials from Teacher Resource Centre (2nd & 3rd floors of Admin building)

Primary Grade Level Leaders have scanners which can be borrowed for scanning

**The desktop & scanner for the Teacher Resource Centre are on the 2nd floor beside Mr. Tang’s office**

My Info When you’re logged into Destiny, you can view your patron record to see if you have overdue items:

**We do not charge fines for overdue items** 8


If a book or Teacher Resource item is lost or severely damaged while checked out, the patron must pay for its replacement.

My Lists

This feature allows you to create personal resource lists for classes, units etc. Click “view� to access the list: My lists are viewed by only you; public lists are viewed by everyone, including students.

Destiny Catalogue Log in to see what items you have checked out, to create personal lists, and access our subscription databases through One Search.

Compiling a Resource List

If you want to create a resource list, select “add list” as shown above.

Resource lists are compiled through the catalogue. When you see a title you want to include, click on the “add to this list” tab.

When you’ve clicked on this tab, it will show “in this list”.

Resource lists can be used for Units of Inquiry, classes, students’ reading logs etc.

Check In & Check Out

You can check out items in the 2nd floor resource room or your classroom computer! To check out items on your account, select the “to patron” tab:

To check out items on a student’s account, select the “by homeroom” tab:

Select the student’s homeroom & click “select patron”:

Click on the student’s name. This will open their account & you can check out textbooks on their account. Click in the “find” field & enter the barcode number & hit the “enter” key. The item will display on the student’s account:

Destiny Quest This is a visual interface that gives you lots of great statistics! To begin, ensure you’re in the Catalog tab. Click on the Destiny Quest tab on the left or click on the Begin your Destiny Quest link:

The Destiny Quest interface gives you multiple options:

My Info Each patron has a My Info tab which stores information in separate tabs: checkouts, holds, resource lists & recommendations.

Destiny Quest Visual Search This interface lets searchers use visual prompts to help them search – great for primary students!

Choose a shelf from the drop-down menu to put in the appropriate “My Quest” shelf. Holds, Add to List, Make a Wish, Recommend

The “hold it” button lets you hold the selected item with 1 click. It then displays the expiration date of the hold. “Add to list” lets you add this title to a resource list. “Recommend” lets you send a recommendation for this title to another patron.

“Make a Wish” lets you send purchasing recommendations to the librarian. You can choose between the selected title and another title. NOTE: the title is required.

Preferences If you click on the title, it opens a window containing “title details”. On this page you can: •

Hold the book if it’s out

Write a review

Find books on a similar topic or storyline

The “Friends� option lets patrons create a group where you can have a discussion thread about a particular title or genre of books.
