TThe site enjoys a central location in the highest strip of Jabal amman, between east and west Amman, SpeciďŹ cally in Rainbow street, and is well connected to the downtown area (Wast Al-Balad).g

site analysis
The site contains 3 Existing Buildings, each one built in a different time. The buidlings are clustered in a way that forms open spaces and courtyards around them. t The school students have a strong connection with the surrounding community. Therefore, them relocating will create a big gap in Rainbow street. y

site analysis
The Bishop’s school has decided to relocate, leaving behind great heritage, outstanding cultural value and signiďŹ cant memories in the area and in the hearts of the locals of the neighborhood. Leaving with the question of what is going to happen to the current site? h
10
01
The site collects very big open spaces, in a very dense area, Jabal Amman. Therefore, it is seen as an opportunity for an open public space (The Plaza) for the people of Rainbow, as well as people of the city as a whole.
11
Therefore, the project becomes part of Rainbow’s Journey,, which serves as an Urban cultural hub for the people of the city. Hence, revivng Rainbow street all over again. h
12
THE MEDIA WALL
UNIFYING LAYER
EXISTING
The main goal was to keep as much of the open space in the site as possible, in order to create the plaza. Therefore, the new program was set in the existing buildings, as well as underground. Part of the open spaces now is sunken forming the courtyards, which are the extension of the existing courtyards, while the other part is kept in its original level forming the main Plaza, which connects .with the surrounding streets, including the Rainbow street

CONNECTIONS & ENTRANCES Opening up rainbow street to the Parallel street. Moreover, Main entrances for both Students and the public got defined.
SUBTRACTION The exisng void between the exisng buildings, were connued, forming a new sunken courtyard. (connecng ground between the public and students.
ADDITION OF A UNIFYING LAYER Bringing all the elements of the site together, as well as bringing people from Amman together. Leading to the revival of Rainbow street. Underneath this layer lays the producon area (Semi public), as well as the Art incubator (Public).
LEVELING OF THE COURT This gives it a dynamic sense, as well as high levels in some of the workshops underneath the layer.
ADDITION OF THE WALL this wall acts as the creave canvas, as well as the main aracon to the plaza. Holding an Art gallery for the public.
CONNECTING THE EXISTING BUILDINGS WITH THE NEW ADDITION work in the form of bridges and new structures for the exisng buildings.

Vision It was evident that the children in the site had no safe place to spend their time in and that lead me to create this playground/Garden. Which would be a place of productivity and fun. r

Modules Street light Pavement The structure was a 50 cm module. It was mainly inspired from Monkey bars that are found in children’s park For the pedestrian pavement, it was tiled with reused water bottles ďŹ led with sand by the children themselves The 25 cm modules are used as steps/ or planting spots. r

Concept
Incremental Housing
The biggest chalenge for this project was to design one prototype for a multiple set of families, r since each one has different needs and different aesthetics. r What was the solution? r Incremental Housing was the solution, where the designer provides people’s basic needs (bathroom kitchen, living room, bedroom) and a sturcture in order for the resident to expand as they please. r
54
30
Expansion
The users are free to expand according to their needs. The possibilities of expansion in the future are endless: r Extra rooms OfďŹ ces smal shop balconies gardens porches rental rooms

Shots
Since the people of the area are pretty conservative, the active space was inward “courtyard r with a buffer space of green trees, which makes the open space the highest priority in the design. r
A window seat took place in the bedroom with a view of the Mashrabiyahs and a tree which were added as privacy layers in the front facade
