NTT gov’t going ahead with plans to close Komodo Island in 2020 in order to revitalize the tourist site province’s regents and mayors, the plan looks pretty much set in place. “The president has agreed to plans for a one-year revitalization [in 2020], specifically for Komodo Island, but tourists are welcome to visit other islands,” Viktor told the press, as seen in a video published by Metrotvnews.com. If you happen to have plans to visit Komodo Island, the most well-known home of the world’s largest species of lizard, the Komodo dragon, you might want to go this year, before the island is closed to tourism in 2020. Officials from the East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) government have discussed plans to shut down Komodo Island for some time now, but with Monday’s visit to the island by NTT Governor Viktor Bungtilu Laiskodat, along with the
Viktor added that, during the year it’s closed, the iconic island will be completely revitalized for tourism, with better forest management and better food supplies for the endangered lizard. The NTT government has cited the lack of food for Komodo dragons as one of its primary concerns, noting the lack of animals they prey upon, particularly the deer that are native to the park’s islands
“We need a considerable amount of time to revitalize Komodo Island to make it a world-class conservation site,” Viktor said, as quoted by Kumparan. The governor also expressed his hope that the revitalization would benefit local residents and ultimately protect the endangered species. “I want this asset of ours to be managed properly, so it can benefit more people. The people must get a big portion, not merely scraps. If we don’t manage it, this animal could go extinct … I want to be remembered as the father of Komodo [dragons],” Viktor said, as reported by Gatra. If you can’t make it to Komodo Island before 2020, don’t worry too much. The closure will not affect the other 171 islands located within Komodo National Park, several of which are also home to Komodo dragons. (coconuts.co)

NEW IN THE GU: LOST CITY
You are not in if you are not in the THE CANGGU WEEKLY Start advertising your business in Canggu’s one and only advertising and news magazine
Drop us a line @ cangguweekly@gmail.com
While our Canggu days are sandy & sun-filled, barefoot & coconut-infused.. our nights have historically been far less fruitful, as we’d trek from beach bar to [closed] beer garden, in search of a late-night haunt. Ugh. The recent slew of twilight downpours had us girls almost, ALMOST hang up our strappy sandals in defeat. We were just about ready to slide with our chips and dip back down the ominous Netflix trapdoor. But slow your scroll crew.. this, oh, this.. is somewhere even better to get lost. The latest addition to your usual Wednesday-Sunday night programming is Lost City Bali. It’s a full service nightclub – yeah, what of it – just a remote controls throw from Echo Beach. It’s big, it’s opulent, and it’s got all the makings for a late night of absolutely no chill. Dust off your heels babe.. finally a reason to get just a lil fancy on your Gu night out. Allow us to set the scene.. You enter a formidable concrete building down a gang off Jl. Batu Mejan. You’re immediately greeted by black glazed walls – “nightclub” brief nailed. Once fully submerged, you find yourself inside an impressively large room with high ceilings and warehouse floors. There is C02 cannon smoke in the air and eclectic graffiti on the walls – is that a deer head or a girl wearing antlers? Whatevs. We’re here for it. On the fringes of the room are black leather booths fit for Canggu’s star power. You want in on that, duh. “No problem,” a friendly staff member informs you, “until they’re are booked for bottle service at 3mil, the booths are free for all.” No elitism here. In front of you is a raised stage from which a DJ provides the soundtrack to this obscure experience, and you manage to peel your jaw away from the kaleidoscopic projector screen just in time to catch a cast of models strutting through in feathery costumes. Yes to the next episode in 5…4…3. Lost City, by their own admission, don’t take things too seriously. They’re MO is to create an environment that wills it’s guests park their egos with their scooters and have some damn fun. With pro mixologists slinging cocktails for 140K, that ain’t too much to ask. Whilst the first season only just kicked off last Friday, it’s already hooked us with the suspense of a thousand trailers. What’s set to come is a series of midnight specials, themed event nights, interactive parties and even closer attention-to-detail entertainment. Into the wee hours of a Canggu morning. I mean, FINALLY! It’s the new after party for every party in the GU. Walked out of Dirty Ol Wednesday’s still relatively clean? Kick on at Hump Day Afterparty, by demand - from 11 til late. The executive crew behind the Lost City scenes all boast comprehensive backgrounds in hospitality, having run venues in Sydney, Melbourne and London, and the joint is operated with safety in mind. If you’re into multilayer plot lines – or even just multi layers – then this place is for you, with its noteworthy mezzanine, from which the viewer experience can be taken to new heights. People watching? Press play please. Sure, it’s not your usual Bintang by the beach but eliminate that mindless browsing and add it to your list of must-sees; it’ll only make the decision easier next time a big night out in the ‘Gu is on the cards. Who are you to refuse the convenient suggestion of someone who knows your leisure preferences oh-so intimately? We got you crew. Are you still reading? Good. There is a new distraction on the block and something tells us no one can predict how this one unfolds. https://www.facebook.com/guguidebali/ https://cangguguide.com
