Man arrested in Bali for allegedly stealing HIV medication worth thousands of dollars from ex-boyfriend “Maybe it was jealousy. The suspect said he’s angry because [the ex-boyfriend] never answered his calls and can’t be contacted,” First Inspector Androyuan Elim from North Kuta Police told Kompas.com.
Police in Bali recently arrested Siswantoro, a 36-year-old man from Jombang, East Java, for allegedly breaking into his ex-boyfriend’s house and stealing his HIV medication, which authorities said was worth millions of rupiahs.
Police said the incident took place on June 24, while the ex-boyfriend, identified as Italian national Canavacciulo by local media, was reportedly away from his home. While Canavacciulo had his room locked, he did not do the same for his closet, where he reportedly stored his HIV medication.

By the time he returned to his house, he found his doors unlocked, his closet opened, and his medication missing. The 53-year-old went to the police to file a report, and Siswantoro was arrested on June 27. “It was HIV medication, but we don’t yet know why [Siswantoro] stole the medication, whether it was going to be put up for sale or something else, we’re still looking into it,” Androyuan said. Androyuan added that the HIV medication, which was reportedly obtained abroad, was worth IDR 75 million ($5,299). (coconuts.co)

Had you asked us a year ago about how we felt about a plant-based diet – we’d have told you that it sounds like a big missed-steak. Ditching the bacon in our brekkie burrito, trading a juicy beef patty for a mushroom and our melted mozzarella for cashew cheese?! Unthinkable. Fast track to now – vegan jokes are dead, we’re more conscious of our meat consumption and Canggu is slowly accumulating a solid lineup of plant-based eateries. Who needs chicken when you can devour Peloton’s ‘Tricken Parmy’? Or the ‘Gyro Jack’ Jackfruit burger at Shady Shack? Don’t get us wrong, bacon will always have a place in our hearts, but we’ve got no beef about switching it up with meat-free alternatives when they’re this damn tasty. Our only complaint is that we want more variety! Enter Manggis in Canggu. Created by a pair of vegan and vegetarian brothers hailing from the island of Bali, this brand new plant-based player combines secret family recipes with influences from the East and West bringing you flavourful, no frills vegetarian and vegan dishes to lure in even the biggest of sceptics. Their ethos? To spread the love of plant-based food as far and wide as possible. Curly fries fans are in for a treat with the Vegetable Bundles – roast Mediterranean veggies wrapped up in crispy potatoes, served with a carrot broccoli puree and cucumber melon sorbet. Who knew chips could be this fancy?! Not doing carbs though? We hear you. If you don’t win friends with salad – then sign us up as loners - because the Kale and Apple salad is next level. Our standout starter? The Tortilla Chimichurri Meatballs, easy. Purple sweet potato tacos filled with mushroom parsley seitan (that’s an alternative to tofu and tempeh), coleslaw, a house made Sriracha sauce and chimichurri. Those tender meatballs sure as hell tricked us! The only thing better than gnocchi is guilt-free gnocchi. The Gnocchi Trio is exactly that. Fluffy pan fried potato & sweet potato gnocchi, served with ricotta cream and topped with parmesan. Little pillows of pure happiness. Up there on the list of things we never thought we’d eat – the Seared Watermelon Steak. Back in the day a juicy porterhouse was the only thing we’d drool over - but this dish wowed the pants off us. So refreshing, so juicy. If you didn’t try the Nasi Campur, are you even in Bali? A medley of mixed rice with mum’s secret recipe satay sauce, urap (veggies with shredded coconut), sautéed mushrooms, crispy tempeh, tofu scramble and a torch ginger chili sambal and crispy peyek crackers. A nod to their Indonesian roots, the Manggis rendition of a Campur is handon-heart one of the best we’ve had in Canggu. Well played. Just came for a chill and a chat? Skip the veggie gastronomy and grab yourself a beverage menu as you cosy up in the lush courtyard. Oozing with tropical greenery, gorgeous little shady nooks and long tables both indoor and out have you spoilt for seating choice. Bring your fave book and wile the afternoon away solo over a house made Tamarind Squash (so delicious we ordered two!) or bring your gang along for catch-ups with coffee as solid as your friendships. With curated ‘Manggis Blend’ beans from Hungry Bird and a glitzy La Marzocco machine carefully churning out delicious cups of go-juice – you know these guys are serious about their caffeine kick. Got mylk? From oat, to almond, to coconut – all plant-based dairy alternatives are made fresh in house, AND they don’t cost extra! Did you know; research has shown those who order the Es Puter for dessert increase their likelihood of a happier belly by 100%? FOR REAL though, we want this bowl of ice cream with jackfruit, tapioca pearls and house made caramel sauce after every, single meal. Ridiculously good. So there you have it. Beautifully presented, flavoursome dishes made with love, and plants. If Manggis makes plant-based look this good, then we’re seriously willing to consider it. For the curly fries, if nothing else!
