Bali man arrested for pawning 14 rental cars to fuel cockfighting habit September of last year and had initially sub-rented them to tourists at higher prices. But as his gambling addiction intensified, so too did his need for money.
South Denpasar Police have arrested a Tabanan resident for pawning 14 rented cars, allegedly to pay for his cockfighting habit. According to an article in Kumparan, the man had hired the vehicles in
The man, identified as I Wayan Eka Antara by Bali Post, is reported to have pawned the vehicles to several different people at prices ranging between IDR20 million (US$1413) to IDR25 million (US $1767). Antara’s scheme was uncovered when the rental period expired and the cars still hadn’t been returned. The case was reported to police and, according to a

report by Kumparan, the perpetrator was arrested in his Tabanan home on Sunday. Police managed to secure all 14 cars, some of which had reportedly been tracked down as far as Singaraja and Gilimanuk on the north coast of Bali. Antara faces charges of criminal embezzlement with a threat of four years imprisonment. Known as “tajen” in Bali, cockfighting is a cruel and widespread practice involving physical bouts between roosters fitted with sharp spurs around their legs. It’s not uncommon for spectators to bet on winners, despite gambling being illegal in Indonesia. (coconuts.co)

While we are stoked with the new addition to the scene, we do have one major complaint though, and we don’t take this complaint lightly... Duatiga, your menu is too large! How are we ever expected to make any decisions when EVERYTHING looks epic, and the food FOMO is real. How are we supposed to choose between the salmon avocado crostini and the kimchi beef burger on the brunch list? What do you expect us to do when your menu has a Prawn Pad Thai and Crispy Salted Pork Belly, and we want to sample both? Why would you put Gyoza, Vietnamese Prawn Rice Paper Rolls AND Thai Fish Cakes on your tapas menu, when those are our all-time favorites? Why would you do this to us? Why, Duatiga, why? Well, in true Gu Girl style, we ordered it all and then some, ‘cause #YOLO! " Though the large menu makes choosing difficult, it also boasts something for absolutely everyone. Cheat day? Have a burger! Getting ready for some hard cardio? Protein Smoothie Bowl for you, miss! On a diet? Have a muffin sweetheart, life’s too short to nibble on salads all day (though to be fair.... the big salad bowls at Duatiga are epic and we could probably all do with a little diet in our lives... # ) Or are you maybe craving a hit of rendang but have moved to the cruelty-free camp? Vegan tempeh rendang to the rescue! Duatiga, you have it all and we love you long time!

The short story is that the Duatiga menu is a carefully balanced selection of Asian delights and Western favourites. Laos Pork Pho, Thai Massaman Curry, Balinese Pandan Chicken and a Spicy Salmon Poke Bowl... Wash those down with a tropical fruit juice, French Press or Vietnamese Drip coffee. Enjoy flavours from around the world, right here in our humble little Berawa! They say that good things come to those that wait, and we’ve already said that we would wait another eternity for Duatiga, but in all seriousness... We are so glad that we don’t have to wait a second more. Rendang date, anyone? GG xx https://www.facebook.com/guguidebali/ https://cangguguide.com THE SEMINYAK WEEKLY, 25 Jan - 01 Fab 2019

Kuta Beach closed due to high waves, strong currents, and a whole heap of trash Raw footage posted on @denpasar.viral today shows the sheer volume of organic and non-organic debris washed up onto the shoreline: Beaches further up the coast, including Legian, Petitenget, Batu Belig, and Canggu, have also reportedly been closed due to hazardous conditions. Despite the ban, some tourists are apparently determined not to let the weather ruin their holidays. “I’ve been here [Kuta Beach] twice and I think it’s still safe,” said Ana, a Californian surfer to Kumparan. The extreme weather that’s been sweeping Bali lately has been wreaking havoc all over the island. On Monday night, a mudslide in Tabanan caused a house to collapse into the river below, and since yesterday, Kuta Beach has been closed for swimming and surfing due to dangerous conditions. According to a report by Kumparan, the decision to close the popular tourist beach was made yesterday morning when heavy rain, strong currents, and waves as high as three meters were observed by lifeguards.
The head of Badung Surf Lifesaving Association, I Ketut Ipel, said that an additional hazard was caused by the buildup of sharp tree branches and other garbage on the shore. “We’re monitoring the garbage too. The coastal stretch running from Kuta to Legian and Seminyak is full of rubbish. It’s very dangerous for visitors to swim,” said Ipel.

The water will be open for surfing and swimming again once the waves and currents are declared safe, though that’s not expected to be for another couple of days yet, at least. Meanwhile, officers from the Environmental and Hygiene Agency (DLHK) of Badung Regency have deployed heavy equipment machinery to clear the debris. (coconuts.co)
