Welcome message from the Chairman Shri Shirdi SaiBaba Mandir of North Carolina (SSMNC) was established as a non-profit organization in 2010 by a team of eight SaiBaba devotees with no place. With the blessings of SaiBaba the current SSMNC 3.5 acres land along with a 4000 square feet worship hall was purchased in 2011 with overwhelmed community support. Immediately after in 2011 a priest was hired to perform the services to Baba. Today the temple is open 7 days a week and all four Aarathis and rituals like in Shirdi are performed to Baba. SSMNC board worked hard along with the local community to come up with a new temple expansion plan by having a SaiBaba Statue along with other deities. The existing building on the land is being renovated-expanded to accommodate SaiBaba, Ganesh, Dattatreya with Anaga devi along with Dwarakamayi baba to realize the SSMNC vision of a permanent home of SaiBaba here is North Carolina, with the consecrations of Baba and support of the devotees. I am extremely happy to see that with the guidance of SaiBaba, our plan is coming to realization out of this upcoming Grand Prana Prathista ceremony. On behalf of the board with bow of my head to SaiBaba lotus feet and with blessings of SaiBaba I would like to thank you everyone those who supported this spiritual and religious cause to spread the essence of the Shirdi SaiBaba teachings to the United States. My life is fully committed to support our vision with SaiBaba guidance to spread peace for all and to believe in “one god governs all”. My Guru-My Guide-My God Sainath,

Dr. Mayura Sevala Chairman, SSMNC

SSMNC Vision Shri Shirdi SaiBaba Mandir of North Carolina (SSMNC) vision is to promote Shirdi SaiBaba “Sharda” (Faith) and “Saburi” (Patience) philosophy along with his other teachings to help local community with religious, spiritual, cultural, educational, and charitable activities by having a home of SaiBaba (Mandir) here in North Carolina to facilitate worship services in the United States. Mandir Idols As part of SSMNC Grand Prathista event, we will be doing vigraha prathista for Sri Shirdi Sai Baba, Kshipra Ganapathi, Dattatreya with Anagadevi and Dwarakamai Baba idols. All idols are procured and sculptured by Sri Rajiv Talim grand son of late Sri B.V. Talim who sculptured Sai Baba idol at Shirdi Sai Sansthan. Kshipra Ganapati is the form that satisfies a devotee immediately. The belief is that Kshipra Ganapathi gives boons and blessings immediately. A major belief is that this form of Ganesha is immediate in all his actions. He grants long life, fulfills desires and provides peace and prosperity. His anger too is immediate and those following Adharma are punished quickly. Lord Ganesha, son of Lord Shiva and Paarvathi is known with several names and forms. Ganesha is one of the most important deities of the Hindu religion. Before starting any new work, Ganesh is worshipped to invoke his blessings. He is known as a God who helps you to remove the obstacles on your way to achieve great success.

Kshipra Ganapathi (Italian Marble)

Dattatreya is a Hindu deity considered to be an incarnation of the three Hindu gods Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva. Dattatreya had descended into the realm of world as progeny of Atri and Anusuya. Sri Anagha devi is a tri-murthy-swarupini i.e. a form of Shakti comprising the essence of Shiva, Vishnu and Brahma and their consorts Parvati, Lakshmi and Saraswati. Sri Anagha devi is the consort of Sri Guru Dattatreya. Prayers to Sri Anagha Devi Sametha Sri Dattatreya destroys all types of sins. Lord Dattatreya has taken number of forms & incarnations to protect people in the world. One of the most important forms is that of Sri Anagha Deva. Lord Dattatreya along with Anagha Devi form the divine couple. Sincere prayers to the divine couple grant both Material & Spiritual wealth. They bless us in abundance in this world and world thereafter. Dattatreya with Anaga Devi (Italian Marble)

Dwarakamai Sai Baba (Australian Marble)

Baba preached at Shirdi all his life and performed numerous miracles to convince people that God exists. He healed people's diseases, provided moral and material comfort to his Devotees. Baba helped bring Unity and Harmony between all communities. He said that God is one, but called by different names. He said follow your own religion and seek the truth. Sadguru Sri Shirdi SaiBaba often said that ‘Shraddha’ (Faith/Trust) and ‘Saburi’(Patience/ Endurance) are means of virtues. If his devotees could develop these virtues in themselves, they will cross this ocean of worldly existence without the least trouble and easily. SaiBaba encouraged charity and the importance of sharing with others. He said: "Unless there is some relationship or connection, nobody goes anywhere. If any men or creatures come to you, do not discourteously drive them away, but receive them well and treat them with due respect. Shri Hari (God) will be certainly pleased if you give water to the thirsty, bread to the hungry, clothes to the naked and your verandah to strangers for sitting and resting. “Om Shirdi Vasaya Vidmahe ,Sacchidanandaya Dhimahi

Bikshazoli Baba used to beg food from chosen homes in Shirdi. Baba suggests that in order to destroy one's ego, ascetics must live a simple life by begging alms. He used to carry with Him a Zoli (rectangular peace of cloth) and a tin-pot. Following this tradition SSMNC offers Sai Bikshazoli during Sai Punyathidi and some other special occasions. We send notification to devotees in our community email to devotees to request for Bikshazoli. During this time we come to devotee home along with Baba and take Biksha from devotees. This has been a very popular event where devotees get the opportunity to invite Baba to their home.

Gramotsavam SSMNC offers Gramotsavam (Palki Seva) as one of our Priest Services. Ardent devotees of SaiBaba can request to host the Gramotsavam to their house. Upon receiving the request, volunteers of the temple and temple priest will take Baba’s Palki, Baba (utsava vigraham), Chatri, musical instruments to the host’s house. At the host’s house upon receiving Palki with grand welcome, the priest will seat Baba in a comfortable predesignated place. Then our priest will perform Saibaba Ashtothram and Dhoop Arathi to Saibaba. After the Aarati, the priest will perform Abhishekam to Saibaba along with the hosts. Abhishekam will be followed by Bhajans. The program concludes with Prasad distribution offered by the host.

Sai Food Fest SSMNC organizes Sai Food Fest as one of our fund raising event. Food fest is a fun event where many enthusiastic volunteers come forward and cook their regional delicacies in the premises of Mandir. This is also a fun event for children with many inflatables and games to play at Mandir premises.

Annadanam at Mandir "When an Atithi (uninvited guest) comes to our door at noon, it is our bounden duty to welcome him and give him food. Other kinds of charities, viz. giving away wealth, property and clothes etc., require some discrimination, but in the matter of food, no such consideration is necessary. All charities are imperfect without Annadana. Annadana is the best of all merits." - Shri Sai Satcharitra Following this tradition at SSMNC, Annadanam is performed in the form of distributing Maha Prasad to all devotees every day after all Aaratis and on all special occasions at the Mandir. Annadana at the Mandir is by the devotees for the devotees. Devotees can perform Annadanam at Mandir either by bringing prasadam or help preparing prasadam at Mandir. Devotees can also donate towards Annadanam sponsorship .

About Sai Baba Baba is one of the main gods. Today if you go to the temple, the first god you pray to is Baba. Back when he was alive he was the most generous man. He gave food, water, and money to the poor. Everybody worshiped him, and to this day we still do. Baba’s favourite event is Bhiksha Joli. Baba only goes to few houses . The main purpose of Bhiksha Joli is Baba collects the bad things the people did knowingly or unknowingly in the form of Bhiksha. When Baba goes back his home. He combines all his food and gives to animals at his home and then he gives it to the devotees in the temple. Baba’s favourite number is 9.Baba’s favourite day is Thursday.

About Hanuman Hanuman is the god of power. If you pray to him before going to a tournament he will help you win. He can grow into a giant and shrink into an ant. The name hanuman means “disfigured jaw” in sanskrit. Hanuman has 108 names in sanskrit language. He is one of the central figures in the Hindu Ramayana and its various versions. Chiranjeevi is one of those 108 names. He helped Rama in the war with Ravana to save Seetha. It also believed that he one other form of Lord shiva. He is the son of Anjana and Kesari, and is also described as the son of the wind-god Pawan, who according to several stories a role in is birth. Article written by Manasa Brundavanam

Sri Shirdi Sai Baba I pray to Sai Baba because he is always there for me when I am having trouble and guides me to solutions. He has done a lot for me and everyone else in the world. During the period of Sai Baba, people in India were striving for independence from the British. This was merely just a political problem. But, the main social problem was the cultural and religious differences between Hindus and Muslims. Sai Baba knew that these differences were plaguing the entire society. The two religions must unite because the hate and turmoil will spoil both the groups. Sai Baba preached to everyone that there is only one God (Sabka Malik Ek Hai!) and dedicated himself to unite the people of the two religions. Sai Baba did not belong to any religion, and preached to Muslims to follow the Qur’an and Hindus to follow the Bhagvad Gita. He was impressed by the Bhagvad Gita’s moral philosophy and greatly encouraged people to follow it in their daily lives. Sai Baba was a true spiritual man, leader, and most of all a true believer in God. Jai Sai Ram !!!!

My experience Recently, me and my family went on a trip to France. I have really bad travel anxiety, and I was dreading the plane ride during the weeks leading up to the actual journey. When I got to the airport, I hoped that when I got on the plane, my anxiety would be reduced and I would be much more at ease. The exact opposite happened. Once I boarded, I felt sick to my stomach and I felt like the plane was very unsafe and something bad was going to happen. I could not stop thinking like this, through takeoff and a majority of the flight. I could not stop praying, and I wanted God by my side more than anything. Every time we hit some turbulence, I thought, “This is it. It’s over”. A little more than halfway through the flight, I tried to imagine something that would help me cope with the situation a little better. Whenever turbulence hit, I would imagine Shirdi Sai Baba holding the plane up on his shoulders, taking it over the ocean and protecting it from anything that could possibly cause it any harm. I kept envisioning this image throughout the rest of the flight when things got rough, and I will tell you that it really helped me a lot. Just imagining His presence managed to make the rest of the journey a breeze, and that is the power of Sri Sai Baba. He is always watching, even when we think He turned his back on us. He knows what’s best for us. We just need to believe. By Pujita Chodisetty

Sai Baba Sai Baba was born on 1830 in India. He was a jewel among people. His whole life he lived in a small village. He was clamed as Hindu and Muslim. He drew people all over the country. He effected cures, he granted health, and happiness. His real dream was to awaken in them a life. Baba was first seen as a sixteen year old under a neem tree in Shirdi. The people in the village were amazed to see such a young person do hard prayers. Not even minding the heat or cold. He was always alone never talked to anyone or leave the neem tree. All around the world people pray to god and take his blessing. Hinduism, Islam, Buddhism, Jainism, Sikhism, and many more. People sing aartis, bhajans, and songs. When Baba first came to Earth he gave love and happiness to the world. People believe that Baba was a form of Shiva, Krishna, Rama, and many more. Sai Baba is worshipped by people all around the world. The name Sai was given to him when he arrived to Shirdi, but some people thought he was mad and threw stones at him. Unfortunately Baba died in peace on 1918 October 15. They buried him in Shirdi. Even though Baba attain Samadhi we all still believe he is with us.

The “Sai Baba” I know Sai Baba…When one hears the name, the first words that come to mind are divinity, purity, humility, and bliss. Interestingly so, these are in fact the qualities that man strives to achieve, but can never fully reach. Ever since he first stepped foot on this planet, Sai Baba has inspired millions of people across the world with his enlivening philosophies, awe-inspiring stories, and kind and humble presence. But what is Sai Baba’s influence and effect on Indian culture as a whole? From the grains and seeds in the soil, to the birthing of a healthy child, Hindus and Muslims have cultivated the belief of god to bring hope and promise into their villages. In times of trouble or sorrow, these people would look to God. It was not until the appearance of the “fakir” himself that the people shifted their attention and devotion to this gratuitous miracle worker. Along with the heart of God, Sai Baba brought into his people a form of dignity, discipline, and kind heartedness. In his words, sayings, and actions, Baba demonstrated patience, humbleness, and generosity. This eventually rubbed off on Sai’s devotees and sooner or later, they followed his words and habits to go on to become better human beings. The main ideology behind all of Sai Baba’s philosophies is the importance and significance of Unity. Back in Baba’s times, Hindus and Muslims were constantly quarrelling with each other. Nobody knew whether Sai Baba was a Muslim or a Hindu, but after seeing some of his miracles in action, both the cultures came together to worship and follow the supernatural entity in the form of a fakir that was Baba. Unlike the devotees of other religions, where they are required to do a number of specific rituals for their gods, Sai Baba’s devotees are not obligated or forced to do anything of that manner. Baba believed that people should choose their own faith and follow their own god. It doesn’t matter what religion, Baba’s only philosophy was that “God is one.” It was through this saying that Sai Baba’s devotees believed the fakir was a descendant of god himself. Within Sai Baba, devotees all across the world could see their gods and goddesses in this enlightened miracle worker. Here at the Shirdi Sai Mandir of North Carolina (SSMNC) we embrace Baba’s philosophies of unity by partaking in an event known as the Interfaith Prayers each year, to truly show

Sai Baba Satya Vratam This vratam is similar to Satyanarayan Vratam, we do Ganesha pooja, Navagraha, Ashtadikh palaka pooja. Instead of Satyanaryan ashtothram, Abhishekam and stories we do Shirdi Sai Ashtotaram, Abhishekam and stories. Brief introduction below on how Sai Satya Vratam started. Story Of Sai Vratam One Bhimaji Patil of Narayanagaon, Taluka Junnar, Dist. Poona, suffered in the year 1909 A.D. from a severe and chronic chest-disease which ultimately developed into Tuberculosis. He tried all sorts of pathos (remedies), but to no effect.Losing all hopes, he ultimately prayed to God – “Oh Lord Narayana, help me now”. He was brought to Shirdi and taken to the Masjid, and placed before Baba. Mr. Nanasaheb and Shama (Madhavrao Deshpande) were then present. Baba pointed out that the disease was due to the previous evil karma, and was not at first disposed to interfere. But the patient cried out in despair that he was helpless, and sought refuge in Him, as He was his last hope, and prayed for mercy. Then Baba’s heart melted an He said, “Stay, cast off your anxiety, your sufferings have come to an end.The Fakir here is very kind and He will cure the disease, and protect all with love and kindness.” The patient vomited blood every five minutes, but there was no vomiting in the presence of Baba. From the time, Baba uttered the words of hope and mercy, the malady took a favorable turn. Baba cured him in two dreams. People in the Maharashtra, always celebrate Satya-Narayana Puja in their homes every fortnight or month. But it was this Bhimaji Patil, who started a new Sai Satya-vrata Puja, instead of Satya-Narayana-vrata Puja, in his house, when he returned to his village.

Sai Baba Vrat Stories CHAPTER 1 By the side of the pious Godavari river, there was a small village called Shiridi Shiridi falls in the Copergaon taluka of Maharashtra. The inhabitants of Shirdi were poor and simple people and lived in mud houses. Unable to afford the usual diet of rice etc., they survived on 'kanji' ( starch water taken from the rice). They were happy and content in their own world. At the outskirts of the village, there was a Kandoba (Krishna) temple. In the summer of 1854, the priest of the temple whose name was Mahalaspati, noticed a boy of about sixteen dressed up like a 'fakir' (saint) and sitting under a neem tree. The boy seemed deeply engrossed in meditation. This boy did not speak to anyone, was not afraid of darkness and just spent his time meditating under the neem tree. All the other boys would mock at him, disturb him by throwing stones and making spiteful re-

73

One morning, a leprosy patient passed by, the young saint asked him to come near him. He consoled him and touched his whole body with his hand. At once, the leprosy patient turned into a healthy man. He was astonished and fell at the saint's feet. This young saint also cured a blind man and restored his eyesight. He would change a cruel man into a good man and help in all kinds of difficulties. There was no end to the miracles of the saintly boy. People from neighbouring villages also started coming in large groups to have the 'darshan' of the saint who sat under the neem tree. He would accept only fruits which he would later distribute after eating a few. Everybody used to wonder and enquire about his parents, birth place etc. but the fakir would just remain silent. One day the fakir could not be found in his usual place. When everyone were wondering about it, they came to know that he was in the kandoba temple. They all went there. The temple priest pointed to a place under the neem tree in the temple premises and asked them to dig there. As they dug they found brick foundations. He asked them to dig further and as they did, they found a stone. When the stone was removed they found a temple with all the lamps lit. He then told them that the young fakir had performed tapas there for 12 years while people used to trouble him. The young fakir then asked them to replace the stone and guard the place which was holy and sacred as he was going to visiti his guru. Saying this he disappeared. No one knew about his whereabouts or received any information about him. In 1856, on a hot summer day, a man by the name Chand Bhai Patel lost his horse. He went about frantically in search of the lost horse with the saddle over his shoulders. He met a young fakir sitting under a tree along his path. He wore a cloth on his head and a long shirt on his body and he was carrying a 'Satka' and some tobacco. He called Patel and enquired why he was carrying the saddle on his back. He lighted the chilim, producing fire and water by hitting the satka on the ground. He told Patel that his horse was a few yards away and directed Patel to the horse by lighting the path where the horse was found as predicted. Patel was greatly surprised at this fakir's divine power and requested to accompany him to his village. The young fakir went with him. In 1858 Chand Bhai Patel's nephew's marriage took place in Shiridi. The bride's place was Shiridi. Chand Patel requested the fakir to accompany them and bless the couple. In the Kandoba temple the carts in which they were travelling stopped. Everyone got down including the fakir. Mahalaspati saw the fakir and called 'Come, Come Sai' which became a divine name. The marriage was over and the marriage party returned but the young Sai stayed back in Shiridi. OM SRI SAI RAM

CHAPTER 2 The Hindus were under the wrong impression that Sai Baba was a Muslim and hence they would not allow him to enter the Hindu temple. In that village there was dilapidated masjid in which Baba used to stay. Baba used to keep a fire burning continuously day and night. He also planted aTulsi (Basil) plant. Even though, he dressed like a muslim fakir and resided in the masjid, he kept fire and a tulsi plant like a Hindu. Both Hindus and Muslims accepted him as one of them and used to visit him. One day, Mahalsapati was hit with a stick by the Muslims when he was entering the masjid with pooja materials in his hand. Instantly Baba started yelling with pain and to their surprise they saw that Baba was having injuries on his back and was bleeding profusely. On the other hand, Mahalsapati who had been hit was not injured in any way. Then Baba told them that they all are his children and that they must accept the truth i. e. there is only one God. He told them that there were no separate Gods for Muslims and for Hindus. After saying this Baba came and occupied his 'asan' (seat). Baba used to often ask Nanasaheb, who was serving as a Deputy Collector that time, to come and visit him. But Nanasheb taking him for a mere fakir never cared for his words. However, one day when he came to see him. Baba explained to him that they were related in the previous seven lives and that they have been resurrected again in this life. Nanasaheb, unable to understand the significance of Baba words, looked puzzled. Then suddenly he saw Baba with a halo around him. Baba gave him a vision of Ram, Shiva, Krishna and Maruti. Seeing all this, Nanasaheb was convinced that Baba was not an ordinary fakir but an incarnation of God. One day, while on his official duty, Nanasaheb went up a hill. Since it was summer, he was unable to get a drop of water to drink. He was exhausted and felt as if he was dying. He sat on a stone and started shouting 'thirst, thirst'. Then suddenly a man appeared before him and told that there was water below the stone he was sitting on. When Nanasaheb removed the stone, he found plenty of water. The water tasted very sweet. Nanasaheb felt that Baba himself came in disguise and saved his life. He went to Shiridi and informed Baba about his adventure on the hill. Baba confirmed and said that he had indeed come into this world to save his devotees. Hearing the stories, the devotees had the faith that Baba was there to protect them in times of difficulties. CHAPTER 3 Sai always responds to the call of his devotees, takes away their burdens and protects them. The following story illustrates this—Dadasaheb Kaparde was an advocate in Amravati. He along with his whole family came to Shiridi to offer his prayers to Baba. They were all spending their time happily in Shiridi, when one of the boys was down with high fever. He suffered for two days and on the third day, the doctor found white blisters on his body and diagonised him to be suffering from Bubonic plague. On hearing this, the mother of the boy started crying. Baba consoled her by saying that when he was there, there was nothing to fear. He would bear all theburden. This was said in front of many devotees sitting around him. Baba, to prove his statement, lifted his shirt and showed blisters on his body. He had taken over the boy's blisters on to himself. Needless to say, the boy was cured and healed completely at that moment itself. Another story will illustrate this even further. One day while arranging the firewood in the Dhuni, Baba put his hand into the fire. His devotees who were around him came to his rescue and pulled Baba away. They asked Baba for an explanation for his action. Baba then told them that there was a blacksmith, who was a devotee of his, in village about 100 km away from Shiridi. His wife was working at the bellows of the furnace, when he called her for some work. Leaving the baby unattended, she went into the house. The baby unknowingly crawled into the fire. Seeing this Baba put his hand into the fire to save the baby from being burnt. Baba said that he did not mind that his arm was burnt but he was glad that the life of the baby was saved. This incident was confirmed by the blacksmith and his wife some days later, when they came to thank Baba. All these incidents show how kind and affectionate Baba was to his devotees. Blessed are the devotees who got to witness his miracles. OM SRI SAI RAM

CHAPTER 4 This chapter illustrates further how Baba always comes to the rescue of his devotees. Rustomji Wadia of Nizam state was a very rich man. He had amassed lots of houses, cattle and was very well respected. Everybody thought him to be a good and happy man. But the truth was otherwise. In spite of donating generously, performing all kinds of poojas, he was not blessed with children. All his prayers were of no avail. He thought himself to be very unfortunate.

76

One day, he was fortunate enough to meet one of Baba's most intimate devotee named Dasganu. Dasganu advised him to visit Shiridi and seek the blessings of Baba. He also assured him that Baba would bless him with children. Trusting him, Rustomji along with his wife came to Shiridi. He very respectfully and devotedly offered Baba a basket of sweets and mangoes and prostrated before him reverently. Seeing Baba's divine form, his whole body began to shiver and tears came out of his eyes. Baba lovingly pulled him up and blessed him saying that all his sins were forgiven and that he would be blessed with children. He gave four mangoes to Rustomji's wife saying that she would be blessed with four sons. Rest of the fruits in the basket were distributed among all the devotees sitting nearby. Needless to say, in due course Rustomji was blessed with a son. He came along with his wife and son one year later to take the blessings of Baba. Later, he built a Wada for the use of devotees of Shiridi. Even today, the wada is called Rustomji Wada. This story shows that Sai Baba showered his blessings upon all his devotees. Another interesting story is about a devotee by the name Shiv. He was a student of law. He went to Shiridi to get the blessings of Baba. Baba blessed him and told him not to worry. He asked him to appear for the exam with his complete faith in him. Just before the exams he suffered from serious illness which made him doubtful about his success in examination. His friends felt that Shiv had not done well but Shiv was confident of his success as he had the blessings of Baba. When the results were declared, he passed the exams with distinction. Everyone including his friends were surprised, then they remembered his confidence in Baba's words. This story shows how Baba's blessings would remove all the difficulties. Baba will bless anyone who remember him with love and devotion. OM SRI SAI RAM

CHAPTER 5 In the year 1918, on Vijaya Dashmi day, Baba left his physical body. His approaching death had made his devotees ponder over the futility of their existence in his absence. They felt as if they were going to be orphaned. But Baba had assured them that though his physical form would be no longer visible he would be always with them, when and wherever they called for him. All he longed for was their love. The following stories illustrate how he kept up with his promise BALAJI PATEL SEVASKAR Balaji Patel Sevaskar was a great devotee of Baba. He used to cultivate a small land and offer all that was produced to Baba first. He and his family lived happily with whatever Baba gave them from this produce. This tradition was followed by Balaji's son even after the death of his father.

77

Once when Balaji's son was performing his father's annual ceremony, more people turned up than expected. His wife feared that the food might not be sufficient for all. Knowing that family reputation was at stake, she asked her mother-in-law for advice. Her mother-in-law told her not to worry as it was not theirs but Baba's food. She asked her daughter-in-law to cover all vessels after putting udi (the sacred ash) in them and then serve. To their surprise and amazement, food was not only sufficient but remained surplus. They all thanked Baba and sang bhajans in his praise with love and devotion and performed Aarti. BAGLA In 1943, a first class sub-judge named Bagla, a devotee of Baba, celebrated Baba's Saptah (a week for reading Baba's book). He decided to distribute food among all the devotees and poor people after completion of the saptah. Accordingly, food was prepared for about 1000 people. But almost 6000 people turned up. Fearing that food may not be sufficient for all, Bagla went near Baba's idol, prostrated in severance and prayed for help. Baba told him not to get frightened but put some udi in all the vessels and then serve from them. The food was not only sufficient but there was surplus. This story reminds us of how Lord Krishna presented the Akshaya Patra (Vessel) to Draupadi to satiate Durvasa's and his disciples' hunger. The list of Baba's miracles is endless. Only a few of them have been narrated here. Whosoever performs this vratam and listens to the Sai Leelas (miracles) with love and devotion, is sure to be blessed by Baba. After the completion of the vratam, the prasad should be distributed and taken by one and all. Only then, the vratam is said to be duly completed. An Ode to Smiles (By Shruti Marota) How do you do it? How do you turn someone’s frown Completely upside down? A simple nice smile from you On the darkest of days Can become a flashlight, Leading the way Out of this maze Towards the bright light at the end. Your smile, oh it’s a beautiful thing, Slowly creeping across your face Like a stealthy ninja, Always there but trying not to be seen. Leaping, sprinting, hurtling, racing Towards the other corner of your face, Dodging all of the gloom And finally finishing its mission With your mouth shaped into a laugh. Your smile is like a balmy daySo cozy and warm. It’s like a brownie out of the oven, Reminding those around you of home. Your Cheshire cat grin Can brighten up an entire room. It feels as if the sun has travelled Down to the Earth To greet us when we open the door. You blind us all with your teeth white as pearls And your eyes twinkle, Reflecting the stars above all of us. So thank you, Thank you so much. For lighting up the world, Please do not ever let them go awayYour smiles.

About Sai Baba:

Sai Baba was born on September 28, 1825, Pathri India. We can call him many different ways like Sai Baba, Sai Baba of Shirdi, and Shirdi Sai Baba. He regarded his devotees with saint, fakir, and satguru. Sai Baba worshiped people all around the world. He taught a moral code of love, forgiveness, helping others, charity, contentment, and inner peace. Sai Baba’s real name is unknown. The “Sai” in Sai Baba is given in the arrival of the Shirdi. The Shirdi is located in the West Indian State of Maharashtra. “Sai” refers to religious mendicant. Sai Baba favorite day is Thursday. His favorite number is 9. He like deepams. His favorite saying is Sabka Maalik Ek Hai.Baba’s favorite event was aJoli. Baba only goes to few houses. The main purpose of Bhiksha Joli is Baba collects the bad things the people did knowingly or unknowingly of Bhiksha. When Baba goes back his home. He combines all his food and gives to animals at his home and then he gives it to the people of Shirdi.

About Shiva:

Shiva is the third god of the Hindu Triumvirate with Vishnu and Brahma. Brahma is the creator of the Universe and Vishnu is the preserver. Shiva has three sons. His wife is Parvati. His three sons name are Ganesha, Murugan, and Ayyappan. Shiva lives on the Kailash Mountains. He also was born in a really interesting way. When Vishnu and Brahma was arguing. A shiny and blazing pillar appeared. Vishnu turned into a bull and started digging in the pillar. When Vishnu and Brahma turned around they saw Shiva emerging out of the pillar. Shiva wasn’t an ordinary god when he was little. He had many roles to play and he got immense power. When Shiva first met Parvati he didn’t pay much attention and Parvati was 8 then. After that Parvati kept on giving fresh flowers to make Shiva to talk to her and pay more attention. When she was older she realized and desired that she wants Shiva to marry her. She told her father and her father worked many different ways to make Shiva to marry her and finally Shiva felt sad for Parvati. Shiva tested her if she has love and had devotion for Shiva. And Shiva saw at the end of the test that she does have love and devotion for Shiva. Shiva married Parvati and Parvati was really happy. Article written by Sarayu Brundavanam
