Horizontal vs. Vertical Horizontal campus type is the most common type of educational campus. However, nowadays architecture is tend to give a chance reverse thinking of design. Horizontal to vertical, suburban to urban, closed to open, formal to informal, fixed to flexible and multifunctional, the new designs of campus are more likely tring to extend campus-bound activities. Our area in which we design a vertical campus of a School of Visual and Performing Arts is located on Kordon Line ahead. As existing of continuation, my design idea comes through façades of Kordon Line. However, Kordon Line has a very horizontal sense that is actually opposite to our aim. There is still a conflict in vertical design -as there is in our minds. So, in order not to create a sudden conflict in existing topology, I use horizontality as a tool aiming verticality.

The design task (based on a recent theory by Keller Easterling, 2014) consists first of analyzing and understanding the site’s existing growth protocol, then harvesting the site for possible subtractions or urban deletions, followed by the design of a new spatial protocol of growth. Proceeding through an unconventional urban design approach and tool-set, the design task will not produce a master plan, but a design protocol, that is, a set of rules for the unbuilding/building of the urban site in question. First part of the project is made by groups; afterwards, each group member continues her/his project area by using their protocol.
Healing Patch | Protokol
Melda Erdinç | Emin Alp Bıyık | Mervenur Doğan | Sena Şat The project area is high urban, stands in between of the green belt of Ankara. Rather than creating green areas, our aim is to heal this urban identity with patching with ‘green’ functions which are also controled by our protocol.
PROTOCOL 1

7) If there are potential green areas (like memory forests and so on) around the possible subtraction areas, they will be reorganized according to those green areas for environmental improvement/healing.
8) The trees that will be used to create green buffer zones along the highway should have stiff and large leaves. They should be evergreen. A seven or eight meters of buffer zone can decrease the noise up to 10dBs.

1 km 1) Public Transportation accessibility is the main concern for segmentation. Each metro station has a transportation area which has the diameter of half of the distance between two metro stations. Each station locates in a segment and segments have mainly three partitions; center is more walkable and has more density; middle part is still walkable from center, but ring buses reach also; outer part is the less dense, more accessable by rings. In addition, accessablity should measure in z coorninate, as well as x and y ones. This protocol will be applied in each segment; each one should cover the following articles.

2) According to the Liquefied Petroleum Gas Market License Regulations, 37th article, on inner city and intercity roads that are open to traffic the minimum amount of distance should be one kilometers between two Petrol (Gas) Stations. If there are more than one station, it will be decided which one should be demolished according to Matrix No3. The areas that will be empty after the subtraction will be organized and healed with landscape.
3) A shopping mall prones to lose its profit and usage value, and becomes redundant right after another one built near it. Therefore, side-by-side shopping malls in a same segment should be evaluated in theirselves. According to Matrix No2, the one(s) which can be subtracted is selected, and it can be redesigned referring to phsical-social-cultural needs of the area.
4) For the examinations of buildings' relations with surrounding and their capacities in order to subtraction, followings should be main concerns; more recyclabe materials; less financial harm; less user capacity; more consumption of energy sources.
6) Each segment 5) At least: One should have at least socio-cultural public space; one healthcare 40% of green space. organization (Hospitals etc.); one educational establishment (high school, university etc.); one residential area; office – commercial area should exist. The missing function will be completed with the area that will be subtracted.
9) For a more balanced city silhouette, Floor Area Ratio (FAR) should be proportional within each segment. In circumstances that there is no proportion, based on the smaller floor area ratio the difference should be 0.5 maximum. The higher ones will be decreased. For the buildings which will be constructed will gain more floor area ratio accordingly if they will include a social area to their programs.
10) The carparks of private buildings that face Eskişehir Road except than hospitals (i.e. Medicana) will be subtracted or shifted to the backside of the buildings. Each building should have a green area in front of the building lot.

Related Articles Cepa & Kentpark are both shopping malls. However, they are not in use at the same level. While they are compared with eachother according to Matrix No2, it is proposed that some parts of them are subtracted.
Materials taken from subtracted parts such as glass, steel, plastics etc. are used in building of additional parts like hotel above Kentpark. There are two forest -METU and Havelsan Memorial forests- around the area. Design proposal of landscaping should be supplementary for these greens.

A Museum for Refrugees with an Open House Ayvalık, Balıkesir Revit, AutoCad, Adobe Photoshop ARCH302 ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN STUDIO IV Spring‘15-’16 Prof. Dr. Aydan Balamir Part-time Ins. Kadri Atabaş Res. Ass. Gülnur Güler
Way stations in migration path become more important because of legal procedures of countries. In this project, museum with open house is designed as a way station. Immigrants can satisfy their urgent needs like accomodation, education and working in the museum with open house. In addition, local people of Ayvalık can be part of this; they can teach-learn things to-from immigrants via various workshops in Open House, or they can give education to immigrant children in some part of the museum voluntarily. Because of the migration history of Ayvalık, new designs should not talk in a different manner, in other words they are also better to harmonize with the old patterns; fragmental and low rise buildings can get into the old Ayvalık easily.

The area of Macunkoy in Batikent is chiefly recognized as an industrial zone with secondary utilitarian zones including residential and commercial projects to support the small and medium-scaleindustries Macunkoy expresses an urgent need for regeneration –something to anchor the fragmentation. Imagine a bridge that sieves through the area’s green patches while housing several functions on its way including an exhibition walkway. The immediate surroundings of the metro house several functions like a community center, recreational parks and schools. As the bridge passes through the housing site, it paves the way for a housing pattern that branches out both horizontally and vertitcally creating a hybrid system, it reaches out to Atatürk Farm Forest and finally saves it by giving it back to the public; a botanical museum and a vegetable market.

For final jury exhibition: https://vimeo.com/129286817 Albeit its long-lasting complex history and its contested modes of production, the notion of “housing” has always been as the most important intellectual domicile of human kind and thus of the architects professionally. Within this multi-faceted term there come the different notions that of dwelling, home or house, etc. as intellectually engaged in varying fields and disciplines since then; and yet they are always to refer to “a place to live in” regardless of their historical, social, cultural, and geographical contexts. The term dwelling as an overarching ontological category, for instance, rather poetically stresses the human being’s poesies over culture and nature whereas home refers to our conflicting inner and/or social constructions, sociological to anthropological or even psychological. House, on the other hand, has always had reference to the physical and technical qualities and thus the final refinement of an architectural structure to be lived in as thoroughly embodied / experimented / built in different epochs of history.
Co_Ho / Community House
Same as society, the project site includes various types of people in therms of work, age, gender or race with different interests and talent Humanbeings need to produce, share and of course socialize inherently as much as they consume. In all differences, this is the c ommon thing between those who are living together. So, in all these personal differences, they have to share something. In this project, I suggested a place where humans produce and consume together, give and take various information from another regarding their interest. So, this Co_house will a place which people share their lives with eachother.

INTERNSHIP | Tasarım Atölyesi Kadıköy / TAK Kadıköy Tarihi Çarşı Implementary Development Plan Prpject Coordinators Tasarım Atölyesi Kadıköy - TAK Kadıköy Municipality
Kadıköy Municipality has started to design Kadıköy City Guide. In this concept, TAK and Municipality renew Conservation Master Plan of Yeldeğirmeni Neighbourhood which is protected area in Kadıköy. Last revision of the plan was done in 1998. Because of this, a new revision of it is a necessity before preparing the guide.
Aim of Project Renewel of Implementary Plan of Kadıköy Tarihi Çarşı
Acknowledgement Including city block and plot numbers of buildings, we record every single building block considering number of floors, function of floors, structural material, lastly condition of building, existing of penthouse, mezzanine floor and registration. We take also pictures of registered ones. After these analyses, we edit entire information on the plan.
3D Modelling Workshop with 3D Printer Project 3D Printer Workshop Aim of Project Design of 3D Models Related with Kadıköy Modelling Tools Rhinoceros 5 Cura 2.1.2. 3D printer / Witbox2
Acknowledgement 3D modelling is already known by most of designers. Especially in architecture offices they are vital for any kind of project. However printing of modellings is not common as modelling itself. So, TAK decided to teach 3D printing to interns. A workshop was done about 3D printer and how we can use it. Interns are devided into 3 groups. Each group has prepared a 3D model related with Kadıköy; a stamp, a ship and a windmill. All models are prepared with Rhinoceros.
