LONDON HAS EVEN MORE TO OFFER
1 Increasingly, international medical tourists are choosing London for their treatment, not only for the high standard of care, but also for the wealth of visitor attractions o ered by the city, including the world-famous Tower Bridge (PHOTO: CHRIS HEPBURN/ISTOCK)
It is my great pleasure to welcome you to Healthcare in London 2020, our third annual publication focusing on the best in private healthcare options for patients visiting the UK. Healthcare in London is expanding with each edition, and we are delighted to feature even more of the capital’s most established and prestigious hospitals and clinics, as well as highlighting the latest arrivals to its fast-expanding range of private healthcare facilities.
Every editorial contribution from the hospitals and clinics in this publication serves as a reminder of the breadth and depth of specialist private health services on o er to those visiting London, building on the city’s reputation for medical innovation and the highest standards in care.
Many of the healthcare providers featured are located within the world-famous Harley Street Medical Area (HSMA) and, once again, we have the privilege of the Howard de Walden Estate, owners of Harley Street and its environs, being one of the main supporters of the publication. Among the HSMA hospitals and clinics included are the London Clinic, profi ling its cancer care, weight-loss and prosthetics services; the Mayo Clinic, which has partnered with Oxford University Clinic to open a premium preventative healthcare facility; and King Edward VII’s Hospital, explaining the latest in prostate cancer diagnosis and treatment. Plus London Women's Clinic highlights innovation in IVF treatment, and Bupa Cromwell Hospital explains how its award-winning food service is a vital element on patients' road to recovery.

in London dedicated to the wide range of world-class oncology services in the capital, Advanced Oncotherapy provides an update on the progress of its gamechanging LIGHT proton therapy system, which is set to dramatically increase patient access to the latest cancer treatments.
We also hear about Bupa Cromwell Hospital’s partnership with global healthcare provider GenesisCare, bringing an advanced radiotherapy centre to London that promises groundbreaking cancer treatments in five-star surroundings. London is also the home of the Royal Marsden, the world’s first hospital dedicated to the study and treatment of cancer. This world-leading centre for cancer diagnosis, treatment and research outlines its cutting-edge services and its expansion plans.
The Royal Marsden is one of several hospitals in the capital oering topquality private healthcare that are also an important part of the UK’s National Health Service (NHS). As previously, this edition of Healthcare in London shines a spotlight on the ways in which private patients from home and abroad can benefit from the experience and expertise of the NHS, via its Private Patient Units (PPUs), which oer private facilities for international visitors. The revenue generated by these fee-paying patients subsidises the work of the NHS – providing healthcare services for the UK population, free at the point of delivery. Our section on PPUs includes contributions from University College London Hospitals (UCLH), Imperial Private Healthcare and Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospitals – all among the world’s most renowned teaching hospitals.
Increasing provision
Alongside well-established providers are new entrants to the capital’s private healthcare market, oering an even greater selection of best-quality care and facilities to visiting patients, both currently and in the near future. These include OneWelbeck, a provider of specialist day surgery that covers a wide range of specialities with an innovative approach in which its doctors are also partners in their clinics. Looking ahead, US provider the Cleveland Clinic has chosen London as the location for its new hospital and outpatient centre, which will become its first facilities in Europe.
As ever, our publication concludes with a view of the many attractions of London that make a medical stay more pleasant for both patients and their families. As well as highlighting the myriad tourist sights and experiences that the city has to oer – from Tower Bridge to the Tate Modern – we also turn a special focus on the worldclass events and venues that sports fans can enjoy in and around the capital.
Our aim is that Healthcare in London 2020 will serve as an essential guide for patients and their companions when considering their location for private treatment. In addition to the best in medical care, visitors can also be assured of a warm welcome in the UK capital and an experience that is unmatched anywhere in the world.
