• GOA - ANTIPSYCHOTIC DRUG USE 2015 http://www.gao.gov/assets/670/668221.pdf • We recommend that the Secretary of HHS expand its outreach and educational efforts aimed at reducing antipsychotic drug use among older adults with dementia to include those residing outside of nursing homes by updating the National Alzheimer’s Plan.

Strategy 3.D: Maintain the Dignity, Safety and Rights of People with Alzheimer’s Disease –

Problem solving strategies may include such actions as treating any medical conditions, evaluating any facility practices that negatively affect a resident’s health, safety or quality of life, training of facility staff on person-centered approaches, including non-pharmacological approaches which may prevent the unnecessary use of anti-psychotics.

A wise man once told me that we do what we do because of the face that makes all the difference. Can you believe this person is in the later stages of Dementia and also has a DX of depression? I am a proud promoter of the Music & Memory Program and encourage everyone who is touched by dementia to utilize this program. I have been supporting and implementing this program since 2010. Touching the lives of 100s of residents like Mary Jean and a total of 30 communities thanks to amazing associations like WALA and insurance companies like M3 who see the value of the program and provide support to get the program going in assisted living.
