Home May Be Good For Your Health!

A recent study from AARP found that 77% of adults 50-years old and older prefer to age in place. Multiple studies advertise the benefits of aging in place, such as the comfort of home, cost-effectiveness, and the ability to maintain dignity, independence, and overall health. “Home” can be in many places, but it is always the place of preference and comfort!

Here are five of the most powerful reasons aging in place is beneficial as is reported by many Senior Expert Publications and AARP.

1It Fosters Independence and Empowerment

First and foremost, remaining at home honors the wishes of the individual and the right to choose. Being an active part of growing their own care plan and team provides confidence in the choice.

2Adults Remain Socially Engaged in Their Communities

Of those who feel lonely, 25% reported moderate loneliness, while 75% experienced extreme feelings of loneliness and isolation. This is the direct opposite for those who can age in place in their own homes and/or communities.

3It is Exponentially More Affordable

Services can be tailored to specific needs and increased as the aging process progresses, only paying for what is necessary and allowing for a range of creative options to help fund their age-in-place goals.

4It Slows the Progression of Memory Loss

The process of removing a person from their home and introducing them to new environments and social settings means stripping them of foundational long-term memory stimuli.

5Comfort Care at Its Finest

Seniors are far more comfortable when surrounded by: n Familiar sights, sounds, smells and places. n Their favorite belongings. n The landscape or garden they’ve tended to over the years. n Art, photos, or memorabilia. n Their pets ~
