REHABILITATION FACILITIES

There are two types of rehabilitation facilities; in-patient where you live at a facility for a specific amount of time and out-patient where you visit a facility for services. Most hospitals have an associated rehabilitation department, and all skilled nursing facilities offer rehabilitation. Rehabilitation Hospitals, however, exclusively provide intense rehabilitation care 24/7, frequent physicians’ visits, and rehabilitation team experts directly supervised by a Registered Nurse.

Pickleball Explosion!

Are you ready to laugh, have fun, meet new people, and get some exercise? Let me introduce you to Pickleball.

Pickleball is a combination of tennis, badminton, and ping pong. According to the Sports & Fitness Industry Association, Pickleball is the fastest growing sport in the USA! Last year, over 36.5 million individuals participated in Pickleball!

We put it all together and played a game. I am excited to sharpen my skills and play again! Come out and play – paddles and balls are provided at the beginner lessons.

With over 60 courts along the Coast, there is always a place to have FUN!

For more information and court times, visit:

Facebook: MS Gulf Coast Pickleballers or www.msgulfcoastpickleball.com

Facebook: Hattiesburg Pickleball www.usapickleball.org

Beginner Lessons are available at these sites. Please contact to confirm specific times:

Biloxi

– Donal Snyder Community Center

Spearheading the increased participation on the Gulf Coast is the Mississippi Gulf Coast Pickleball organization. As a 501c3, they are promoting Pickleball to all ages. Free beginner lessons are available to adults, seniors, active military, veterans, and school children.

Today, I took my first pickleball lesson. I learned quickly that pickleball can be “Slow and Easy” or “Fast-Paced and Competitive”! Our group worked on serving, control of the ball and paddle, balance exercises, game rules, and “Never run backwards” (Fall Prevention).

RESPITE CARE – Provides a temporary break for caregivers by allowing a resident to have a short-term stay in a community that can meet their needs. Some skilled nursing facilities have a separate secured area for residents with Alzheimer’s or other dementia conditions. “Long term care facilities” or “nursing centers” are synonymous terms for skilled nursing facilities. Medicare 2023 “In A Nutshell” (Parts A, B & Medigap Plans)

Original Medicare is a government health insurance program primarily for people age 65 and older. It has four main parts: A, B, C & D. The chart below is an example of how Parts A & B work together with a traditional Medicare supplement also known as a “Medigap Plan.”

Medicare Part A Hospital Insurance

Generally no cost (If you paid Medicare taxes while working)

$1,600 deductible (per benefit period)

It is possible to pay the $1600 deductible and other daily charges for multiple stays & extended care.

Plan covers: Inpatient hospital care, home health care services, hospice, inpatient skilled nursing & more.

Providers are paid by Medicare assignment.

No coverage outside USA. No out-of-pocket maximum.

Many people add a Medigap plan, Part D or an Advantage Plan (Part C) to fill the “gaps” in the coverage.

Medicare Part B Medical Insurance

Most people pay monthly $164.90 (Premium could be higher based on income)

$226 annual deductible. (this can increase each year)

80/20 after deductible.

Plan covers: health care providers, ambulance, emergency care, outpatient surgical, wellness & other Medicare approved benefits

Most doctors accept Medicare. No coverage outside the USA. No out-of-pocket maximum.

Many people add a Medigap plan, Part D or an Advantage Plan (Part C) to fill the “gaps” in the coverage.

Supplemental Policy Plans A - N Medigap

Premium varies by company, age, location & other factors.

Guarantee Issue at initial enrollment

(Other special enrollment periods may be avalable)

These plans generally pay the 20% not covered by Part B & other Medicare eligible benefits

When this coordinates with Medicare, many benefits are 100% covered

Can provide benefits outside USA

Plans are available through insurance companies.

Important to add Part D plan to cover prescription drugs & avoid penalties.

Must have Part A & B to enroll.

There is NO additional cost to use the services of a full time insurance professional. Please call us or a broker in your local area for additional assistance.
