Safely dispose of unused medicine
...to protect your family, community & the environment!
P
roper disposal of medicine can prevent you from confusing old drugs with current prescriptions and avoids accidental overdoses, theft and other misuse of medications. Don't store unneeded meds in your home, and don’t dispose by flushing. Flushed medicines can pollute surface and ground water. You can safely dispose of many unused medications for free at participating pharmacies and at all law enforcement locations in Snohomish County. For chemotherapy drugs, contact your prescribing medical office to see if they will accept the drug.
Find details, locations and hours at www.snoco.org, search “pharmaceuticals” or call 425-388-3199.
Snohomish County Partnership for Secure Medicine Disposal Protecting our community from harm by collecting unwanted prescription medicines from residents Snohomish County Take Back Your Meds is a group of health organizations, police, drugstores, local governments, environmental groups, and others in Washington state who support medicine take-back programs to reduce access to highly addictive drugs, reduce the risk of poisonings and reduce environmental contamination. We weren’t eligible for Medicare yet and didn’t have insurance to cover what we needed. Then we learned about MS Helping Hands and the Donor Closet in Edmonds. It is a volunteer organization that accepts donations of disability medical equipment items that are no longer needed. They then repair and make them available - or a suggest minimum donation - to people with any kind of disability.” MS Helping Hands and Donor Closet Disability medical equipment . . .

Leave a Legacy and Help Seniors in Snohomish County
Dear Friends of Senior Services In a perfect world, every older adult would have nearby relatives or neighbors to make regular visits, prepare meals, make small home repairs or take them to the store. But too many seniors in Snohomish County have no such support system. They are isolated and alone. We have a vision in which older adults, people with disabilities, and those who care for them will have access to all the resources and services needed to maintain independence, promote healthy aging, and live a quality life. Through programs such as meals on wheels, housing, transportation and social services, Senior Services of Snohomish County is working to help make this vision a reality. If you share our vision and have an interest in leaving a legacy that will help seniors in our community, please consider remembering Senior Services in your will or estate plans. For information, contact Janet Duncan at jduncan@sssc.org or 425-290-1262. Jim Steinruck, CEO Senior Services of Snohomish County
Answers to questions about leaving a bequest to Senior Services What is a bequest? A bequest provides a specific amount of money, a percentage of an estate, or a specific piece of property to a charitable organization at the time of death. For most people, this involves naming a charity as a beneficiary in a will, life insurance policy or retirement plan, or by making a gift of real estate. What is the benefit of making such a gift? A planned gift offers a charitable-minded person the opportunity to leave a special legacy without compromising his or her current financial situation or family inheritance priorities. Some planned gifts can offer immediate tax benefits during life as well. Is it difficult or complicated to leave a planned gift? Not typically. The first step is to contact an attorney who can advise you on setting up a gift that ensures your wishes are followed. Why does Senior Services of Snohomish County want to know that I have named it as a beneficiary in my estate plans? When a generous donor includes Senior Services of Snohomish County in his/her will or estate plans, we want to have the opportunity to express our heartfelt appreciation for the gesture. Knowing about future planned gifts also helps us plan to meet the growing needs of our community.
