TThough I’ve been a Californian for over two years, I still can’t adjust to kicking off November without a dusting of snow. Temperatures rarely dip below freezing in my part of the state, allowing nut trees and grapevines to thrive, but, personally, I need snow to survive—at least happily. I know most people dread scraping ice off their windshields and shoveling sidewalks, but I have missed these seasonal chores more than I expected. Luckily, I can FIND cure my I-wish-it-felt-like-winter-blues with a two-hour drive to Lake Tahoe. There, US freshly fallen snow transports me to a winter wonderland where my dusty down parka and winter boots fi nally get some use. For me,“visiting” the snow is the only way ON to make November in California feel like November at all. How do you welcome winter in the Golden State? Do you require a dose of fl uff y SOCIAL powder like me? Or is a pumpkin spice latte or hot cup of cider enough to transition MEDIA seasons? Whatever your pleasure, enjoy this fi nal fall month before the holiday madness with cool events around California in our local section (page 29).
