President’s Column… For some of us we can’t wait for season to get here, increased business, more fundraisers to attend and help plan, friends coming down from ‘up north’, and let’s not forget the cooler weather. Others are not looking forward to the increased traffic, longer work hours (to take care of all those coming down from ‘up north’), and some don’t like the cooler weather (I can’t imagine why). Either way you look at it, it’s that time of the year. Looking ahead at this season remember to support your peers in COSA, Kimberly O’Brien is always looking for friends to help with Breast Cancer fundraisers, Cris Adams is famous for her ‘Stuff the Bus’ in August but loves the December ‘Decorating the Heathcote House’ at the gardens, Art Ciasca is looking for those men who look FABULOUS in those RED HIGH HEEL Shoes to ‘Walk a Mile’ raising awareness and funds for SafeSpace Domestic Violence Shelters and so many more events to be a part of (not to mention COSA’s monthly meetings). So, whether you’re looking forward to all our ‘Snow Birds” arriving or not, remember to Help Out Your Peers this season and attend COSA to find out all the ways to help each other. Don’t forget to reach out to our new members and help bring in new ones who will benefit from our ongoing support.

After many years of fairy tale marriage to the love of my life, two wonderful children and building a home in the SLW community, I came home one day this year to a “Dear John” love letter. My husband had left. I was reduced to grieving for the loss of a husband. My family was able to help me get him back for a while, but he never returned emotionally. He finally decided to formally move out two months ago now. I’ve been down on my knees praying for him; but, this month I’ve had to add to my prayers. The reality of my income being cut in-half, debt compiling, and two growing boys to feed and take care of has hit home. Once a community member volunteering to feed the poor, I now find myself partaking in those same services, humbling myself to ask for assistance to “get me over the hump”. And, all I have to offer in return is a “Thank you”. The emotional support of Maryanne & Rus with St. Vincent De Paul and Kris with Mustard Seed has been immeasurable. I’d like to say that’s all they had to provide me with, but it’s not. From food to financial support I am grateful for these organizations. Keep up the amazing work you do. God willing, we are all blessed with the opportunity in life to volunteer and give more often than having to receive. Thank you, COSA members. Anonymous Bylaws Highlights & Updates Review of the bylaws will be done at the October Board meeting and any changes/recommendations will be presented to the October General Meeting for ratification. Input from members needs to be emailed to Cris Adams at cris.adams@unitedwayslc.org by Friday, 10/7/11.
