Did You Know? Awards corner… Leadership Award This months leadership meeting was Environmental Day. 1st stop was the Adam’s Ranch where class was shown all of the different ways that the Farm protects the environment and the land by using certain products and methods. A tour was given on a camouflaged painted school bus. There is a large tree house and camping/dining area where they have their bar-b-q’s. 2nd stop was at the recycling facility at the St. Lucie Landfill. Class learned more about what happens to our waste than a person ever thought they would know. Our landfill does recycle. All proceeds stay within facility to upgrade and get more recycling equipment. Anything loose in garbage cans will be recycled. 3rd stop was at the Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute. Class toured the new Laboratory and a presentation was given by Smithsonian Marine Station reps. and ORCA on the. 4th stop was at the Hurricane House where we toured Florida Friendly Landscape to help prevent erosion. Also environmental friendly ways to use insecticides. Class also got to go into a Safe Room for hurricanes. Lisa Beatty
