Solar power in Rajasthan has new address-Indian Railways
Solar companies in Rajasthan have a busy schedule already. The local government is working fast to achieve their target of 2300 MW in renewable energy in Rajasthan. The state already scores high as far as solar panel installation, cost of solar panels, and list of solar panel manufacturers in India is concerned. It currently has a rooftop capacity of 47 MW. Another innovative idea is being implemented in Rajasthan. Indian Railways has the potential to become a great source of solar power production. It has been a point of focus for the state administration under able guidance of Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu. Alongside many railway stations, Udaipur station is a guzzling solar power source now. It is a prime destination, making the railway minister’s dream of empowering railway stations as producers of solar power in Rajasthan. The modus operandi is the same- solar panel installation at rooftop. Solar power in Rajasthan is doing its bit to achieve the ambitious target of 175 giga watts of renewable energy by 2022. Railway stations in Udaipur are underway to contribute significantly to renewable energy Rajasthan. Almost all the stations (in Udaipur) are progressing towards becoming major source of solar power production.
Udaipur is the only city in Rajasthan among 22 other stations in India to opt for solar panel installation.
Currently, Udaipur railway station is generating 100 units of solar power per day using a solar rooftop plant of 20KWP. This system was established under Corporate Social responsibility activity by Navratna Company CONCOR of Indian railways. On the other side another major station in Udaipur city, Ranapratap Nagar has also been developing a solar rooftop plant of 70kwp. A MoU was earlier signed Indian railway Finance Corporation and Ajmer division for installation of eco-friendly solar panels in Rana Pratap Nagar, Marwar, Rani and Falna to cater to electricity needs of the rail premises. Rs 3.29 Cr, the cost of green project, will be borne by IRFC under its CSR funds. Earlier, Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu unveiled 'Mission 41K' to save Rs 41,000 crore on the Indian Railways' expenditure on energy consumption over the next 10 years. This target will be achieved by taking a slew of measures which include moving 90 per cent of traffic to electric traction over diesel.
