Design Statement

The main influences are the brick wall and pavement slab pattern but also the work of Carl Andre. As he used a lot of bricks in his work it ties in well with my work. I tried to experiment with perspective as well. The sketchbook pages where I used some perspective look good but for the garment design I liked the straight designs better. My idea is to keep the overall design rather simple but build it up pieces by piece as if it was built out of bricks. In that way the fabric will get some texture and the neckline and the hem are made up of a lot of ninety degree angles.

The designs are angular and the overall silhouette is oversized but it is supposed to be more of a tent silhouette rather than a boxy silhouette. The colour is black. I want the details to be as closely linked with the rest of the design as possible. It might prove a challenge to make sleeves using the same techniques fitting into the holes I have but it will work I tried my best to mix the urban and the luxury in as many ways possible. So I paired up the fabric that has a luxurious feel with an urban finishing, a luxurious finishing technique I used for an urban fabric and the most urban design I combined with a very luxurious fabric.
