orizzonti fortificati a proposal for redevelopment of the castle of Santa Caterina Localization: Favignana (TP) | Italy

The project is based on the reactivation of Santa Caterina Castle, a difficult and controversial historical heritage, with the aim to maintain the balance between use and conservation according to the principles of adaptive reuse practices about an historical buildings characterized by a strong identity. The design project started with the transformation of the building into an artcultural center with accommodations and public services and with the aim to make all the area, today difficult to reach, available by all types of users. The design concept is developed according to three main strategies: the restoration of the castle through an interiors project, the reinterpretation of the annexed building with a project that connects the existing with an additional volume and the design of a new intervention that relates itself with the historical structure and respects the naturalistic context. In this project of reactivation of the castle has been essential the maintaining of a relationship with the context, respecting its identity, memory and historical value. ENTR’ACTE L’INTERVALLO PERDUTO Localization: Acropolis of Athens | Greece The main theme of the project is the study of the Acropolis of Athens and its redevelopment and enhancement. The work has include the oragnisation of the accessibility and the musealization and enhancement of the archaeological remains and monuments. The concept of interval its related to the loss of the moment of stasis and contemplation in the era we live, characterized by an exponential increase of sensory stresses due to multiplication unstoppable of the objects and information. The willingness of the project is that to return this interval (moment) of pure and aestetic observation wiìhich is foundational for the valorisation of the Acropolis of Athens, constituting both the key to reading of its historical schedule, both the will of design research. The study of the palinsesto of the Acropolis has led to the creation of a promenade architectural that connects all the interventions starting from the entrance, the system of paths and point of views, the underground museum and finishing with a temporary installation inside the Parthenon cell, the most sacred place.

IN THE CUBE Urban peripheries and network communities Localization: Paderno Dugnano (MI) | Italy The urban project is based on the need to create a more cohesive and accessible urban district. The masterplan is set around a pedestrian path which, like a scar, connects and sews two separated city-sides, because of the presence of a railway and the river. The main buildings, with residential and commercial function, are set along the path and they are separated by public open spaces. The main building is composed of modular boxes, the apartments, that looking out towards the river creating two different facades. The ground floor is completely free and open to the public with a paved square who slopes towards the river with big steps that have the same module of the housing box. The residential building is composed of different housing typologies according to the new residential request and thinking about the future way of living that it will be maybe characterized by new habits, new spaces and necessity. The interiors of the houses are in fact characterized by movable walls and by extendable and hanging fornitures to exploit the most the space without a fixed division.

Academic work Politecnico di Milano Scuola di Architettura Urbanistica e Ingegneria delle costruzioni Architecture of Interiors (a.a. 2016/2017) Course: Architectural and Urban Design Studio Professors: Luis Basabe Montalvo, Claudia Parenti Group’s members: Giacomo Boscolo, Alice Camilla Mariani

04

freezing movement interior restoration of a metro station Localization: Porta Venezia Metro Station, Milano| Italy The idea of the project is to find ways of ‘restoring’ the public interior as projected by Franco Albini in response to contemporary demands and finding ways of integrating this interior with the public space above ground, which is closely tied to the urban transit network. The main focus was to refurbish the station to give it a new vibe by introducing new elements that coexist with the initial Albini design. Interventions would be mainly made through light, improving the quality of the middle space by adapting it to current activities, as well as working with a new colour palette. Slick and clean-cut compositional elements meet sinuous lighting throughout the station therefore framing the existing shell that remains untouched and on display.

ACROSS THE FLOW FLOATING ROOM

Localization: Adda River, Trezzo sull’Adda (MI) | Italy The project is an houseboat to be placed along the river Adda who can be moved from one bank to the other of the river, thanks to the push given by the current of the water. It’s about 20 sqm and it’s provided with a sleeping accommodation, a small kitchen, a restroom, a wellness area and open spaces on the cover and outside. Across the flow is designed to be located anywhere along the river; it’s a base for tourists and sportsmen who carry out sports activities or walks along the river offering them the chance to stay, sleep and do varies activities directly on the river, making the visit even more interesting, characteristic and pleasant. The structure is made of wood with beam and pillars and the covering is in wood too with textile parts. The materials used and itself movement, without the use of any mechanical agents, make this floating room “green”, sustainable and a zero impact.
