a few well chosen words.... Hello friend! We can’t tell you how happy we are to be back in your lap / on your coffee table / in your toilet / on your screen / face down on the street / in the trashcan. It’s always so exciting when our tears, love and hard work is released to the streets to live their own life in the world outside. Sometimes we see our bundles of joy in a club or flash by on a bike, and it’s always such a thrill to know that we’re not doing all this just for our own entertainment (and hair pulling frustration...). A big big thanks to all of you for supporting us.

This season we’re bringing you a fresh clash of cultures. The elegance of Saint Tropez fuses with the vibrant nightlife from the streets Rio de Janeiro to create what we call; Saint d’ Janeiro (a lot of thinking went into that title...). You’ll see plenty of both vivid and bright colors mixing with pale sunbleached ones. Think of a vintage magazine (Playboy for instance) having a kid together with a parrot and you’ll be pretty close. Sounds pretty f-cked up right? Well, you know what we always say... keep discovering

The Spirit et le Pomme Saint Tropez represents the sunny side of France and at the same time has an air of the Mediterranian culture which Rio de Janeiro is well known for. The French Calvados with the Brazilian Cachaca and lemon make up a great cocktail by combining the best of two worlds. Here’s how to make one... (if you’re old enough)

You need:

How to mix it:

2 shots Sagatiba

Shake all ingredients in a shaker with plenty of ice. Pour the cocktail using a strainer into a cooled martini glass and garnish with a fan of apple.

0,5 shot Calvados 1 shot apple juice 0,75 shot lime juice 0,75 shot sugar water

........................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................ Porcão / Rio de Janeiro

Joseph / Saint Tropez

If you want to experience the real taste of Brazil, you should have dinner at Porcão Rio’s. This restaurant is situated in Flamengo, one of Rio’s oldest neighbourhoods.

After a long day of relaxing and doing fuck-all its time to park your yacht in the harbour and go get a bite to eat. Nothing better than fresh French seafood straight from the ocean...or couisine.

Is has been claimed to be the best restaurant in town, and it keeps moving up the charts in the churrascaria ratings (churrascaria: typical Brazilian steakhouse.) Get spoiled by Brazilian Passadors (meat waiters) while enjoying typical Brazilian dishes. If you book a few days in advance, you can get a table by the window and enjoy the stunning view of Pão de Açúcar, also known as Sugarloaf Mountain which is situated at the feet of Guanabara Bay and hugging the Atlantic Ocean.

Be careful not to be the odd one out: make sure you’ve got quite a tan and lots of sparkly eye-catching jewellery to show off with (or silicone, as long as its stylish). We advice you to conquer a table at Joseph L’Escale. It helps if you know a local who can help you skip the line for a seat, but whatever the case you definitely wanna taste their fruits de mer when you get there! Its okay to take off your sandals and dip your toes in the sand scattered floor. Don’t fancy watching pretty food and pretty people float by? Then at least you can enjoy the DJ who’s playing the latest sounds you hear in all the sexy clubs in town, Le Cave du Roi, Le Voile Rouge, Papagayo, etc...

Tip: Brazilians enjoy a late meal, so don’t be early! Online reservations at www.porcao.com.br Tel: +55 21 3389 8989 Av Infante Dom Henrique, Flamengo Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

When the night falls L’Escale turns into a hip lounge, where hollywood and local high society mix... be there![or not.../ed.] Take a look at www.joseph-saint-tropez.com Tel: +33(4) 94 97 00 63 9 quai Jean Jaures St. Tropez, France

........................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................ Nuth Lounge / Rio de Janeiro

Les Caves Du Roy / Saint Tropez

To chill brazilian style, you go to the Nuth Lounge in Barra. Whereas you’re stuck between tourists in other bars, in the Nuth Lounge you will find yourself surrounded by locals and beautiful beach girls. When you enter the nicely tropical-themed bar you will definitely forget about the taxi drive you had to take to get there (and back later).

Glitter and Glamour.. oh so amazing Saint Tropez. Want to feel like a celebrity and keep the champagne flowing all night? Go to Les Caves Du Roy in Saint Tropez and party your ass off... in style.

The benches and tables at the huge terrace out back are surrounded with green palms and plants, and the jungle-ish ambiance make you wanna sit back, relax and sip a Caipirinha... More information at www.nuth.com.br Tel: +55 21 3153 8595 999 Ave Armando Lombardi Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

Tough you’d expect differently, entrance to the club is free! If you want to get in it helps if you’re a millionaire, a model or royalty, but if you look neat and act like you belong you might just get in together with the celebs. The wait will be worth it, the extravagant furnishings and the flashbulb filled interior will make your jaw drop! Claim your own private nook and enjoy the show... When you’re all partied out you can go straight up to your room, since Les Caves Du Roy is situated in one of the hottest hotels in town: the Byblos. Ps. Bring some cash because a beer in Les Caves Du Roy will cost you 26 Euros ($33)! ........................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................ La Maison / Rio de Janeiro

La Ponche / Saint Tropez

We’re advising you not to have your beauty sleep somewhere in the favellas of rio, but to pick a nice cozy hotel instead. Hard to believe, but in between the big chain hotels rising in the sky there still are some small charming boutiques you can really relax and enjoy your stay at. For instance La Maison: a small but stylish French owned bedand-breakfast situated in Gavea, which will make you feel at home immediately. La Maison is Rio’s first boutique guesthouse and with just five bedrooms you will have to book early, but it’s totally worth it. The B&B is up in the hills and the view is stunning. From either your private terrace, balcony or the pool you can look over the forest, the citylife, the bay and not to forget the huge statue of Christ towering above it all (not so big now, huh?!) We personally love their Ganesha Bedroom, it’s just gorgeous!

You can choose to sleep in a fancy expensive hotel when visiting Saint Tropez (with five gyms, three saunas and a pool). Hope to see a glance of a not-so-important VIP while you’re at it. But some choose to experience the intimacy of the old Saint Tropez, by staying at a cute but luxurious little hotel by the beach. Any beach! Because who wouldn’t like to sit at their own roof terrace, looking over the water, thinking about the swim you’re about to have after you finished your cocktail or glass of champagne.

Don’t worry, you don’t have to search long for pretty booties because La Maison is just a ten minute taxi drive away from all the goodness that Ipanema beach has to offer. Only five minutes away are the hip restaurants, bars and beach of Leblon. Especially if you want to visit the Botanical Gardens or Rocinha –Latin America’s largest favela– La Maison is the perfect place to be staying.

Four star hotel La Ponche is where you wanna be. This hotel situated in former fishermen’s houses has friendly staff and beautiful rooms, not to mention the amazing breakfast. La Ponche has the sea at its feet, overlooking the citadel of Saint Tropez. A room with a balcony or terrace will cost you “only” EUR 450 ($570) during high season. Check www.laponche.com Tel: +33(4) 94 97 02 53 Port des Pêcheurs Saint Tropez 83990, France

HIT ME TV

........................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................ sponsoree / discoveree interview www.hitmetv.nl

HIT ME TV, from left: Bow, Frank, Jaap, Thijs

Jaap, vocals & keys

“I just go with the idea that I don’t know what will happen next, ever. That gives me inspiration.” Hello! Could you tell our readers who you are? Hit Me TV. Four angry young men from Amsterdam. Lacking respect for the boundaries between pop and rock. Where do you know each other from? From playing music in and around Amsterdam. Why did you decide to start a band together? Because we felt like we had the same energy, and the same commitment. And I really felt like spending a lot of time smelling them.

tee / I like my tees with holes in them. It never takes long before they do. global warming / Go on technological progress, you clean up the mess you’ve created. camping / We love to camp. We even camped outside the 3fm studios one morning before going on the radio. If everybody would camp global warming would be less of a problem. The Netherlands or Belgium? The Netherlands or Belgium what? Beer? Belgium. Best pop-music in the last ten years? Belgium. Home of Hit Me TV? Netherlands. Most suicides? Belgium. Netherlands.

Where did you get the name Hit me TV from? It’s about how we’re hit by one million impressions per day. And about us making it into our own expression, our music, sending it out to impress others. So television is just one medium, we could have chosen any for the name. It’s just that this one sounds so funky.

World domination or world peace? I think they go together just fine. But I don’t think anybody should dominate anything for too long a time. It’ll get boring. And sometimes a fight can clear the air.

gsus + Hit me TV = 25

Camping or cruise? Camping. Cruises are for the elderly and non-wicked.

Any juicy details about the band? The band is explosive matter. We love each other and we fight each other and in the process we create together. I think in our shared rehearsal space we’re by now famous for the banging doors.

Rio de Janeiro or Saint Tropez? I would love to go once, the tour schedule just hasn’t left the time free until now.

What’s the first thing to com to mind when we say... Rio / CSS, aren’t they from Rio? gsus sindustries / Got me a nice coat. dancefloor / any dancefloor that is not a tile-floor I call home keep discovering / yeah or do whatever you like. I think there must be a balance. If you are only discovering, always, everywhere, you would lose footing.

Where do you get your inspiration from? I just go with the idea that I don’t know what will happen next, ever. That gives me inspiration. Thanks for your time!

festivals & fun Rio de Janeiro National samba day, December 5th On national samba day, it’s time to sambaaa! Since 1962, the 2nd of December is a tribute to all the artists and people who have been involved in making carnaval such a huge part of Brazilian culture. Traditional Samba groups from Rio take up train compartments on the ‘Samba Train’ (yeah!) and party from Central do Brasil station to Oswaldo Cruz. In true Brazilian style, Rio’s National Samba Day is one big musical party.

colourful explosion of fun, music and Brazilian booty shaking!. Some participants plan (and save up for) their costumes for a year, so the results are amazing (tough they don’t necessarily cover much skin)! The best costumes can be seen on Sunday and Monday of Carnival week in the specially constructed SAMBÓDROMO, located downtown. The dates of Carnival depend on the calendar of the Roman Catholic Church, so it starts on Saturday and ends on Tuesday... enough time to get there, get drunk, get sober again and party!! .................................................................................................................................................................................

Saint Tropez

New Years and Festa de Iemanjá, December 31st to January 1st

It is hard to say why one small traditional fishing village on the edge of the Côte d’Azur is the place to be during the summer months of June through to September, but St Tropez is the global magnet for celebrities, film stars, the rich and the beautiful. (the infamous, poor and ugly don’t count for now) Maybe it’s because all of the festivals and happenings? And of course the always beautiful weather.

New year in Rio is one big celebration! Especially Copacabana beach floods with people when the special time of the year is approaching... Rio’s famous New Year’s celebration attracts over 2 million people from all over the world! The beautiful fireworks start at midnight, lasting almost a half hour. Following a local tradition, most people dress in white for good luck. Because in addition to celebrating the new year, the crowds are also at the beach to celebrate the Festa de Iemanjá. As a ritual they offer a white flower to Iemanjá, the Goddess of the Water (a.k.a. the mother of all the gods in the religion of Brazil) Next to flowers she is offered gifts, perfume and rice which are set into little boats and drift off into the sea, or thrown straight into the water. When the fireworks are over, your offerings have floated off and you’ve had enough sand between your toes, you can cross the street and go explore the cafes, restaurants and night clubs that are located at Avenue Atlantica, right next to the beach!

Below we have selected some of the happenings you don’t want to be missing! The first must-go-see we’ve got in store for you is the amazing Harley Davidson Rally. From the 7th until the 10th of May hundreds of loud-noise-making Harley Davidson bikes are stalled out on the boulevards of Saint Tropez, causing the many bite-sized dogs to hide behind their owners chairs. Whether you see the wide variety of bikes driving to Saint Tropez or you see them stalled out shining in the sun light, its a scene you’ll never forget.

Carnival, February 21st to 24th

In September, when the autumn sneaks in, the grape harvest begins at the many vineyards surrounding Saint Tropez, which brings the locals and visitors of Saint Tropez another reason to party and go all out. This all explodes in a happening called the Fête des Vendanges. So get your grape on!

The biggest festival in Brazil is the yearly Carnival, which really is better in Rio de Janeiro than any other Brazilian city. Everybody is dancing/grinding/shaking on the streets (and any other place you can imagine) and parades make the city one big

The event is followed by a sailing race at the beginning of October, which attracts huge yachts and crowds of spectators. As the sight of all these boats racing for the 1st prize is amazing, we advise you not to miss it.

L’Oreal Fashion Week

........................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................... welcome to the O.C. bitch (Ontario - Canada, that is...)

Middle left: Jan Schrijver, Creative Director / Co-founder. Middle right: Ursula Hasham, Head Designer

On Thursday October 23, gsus sindustries heated up L’Oreal Fashion Week in Toronto with a vibrant runway show showing the gsus sindustries Spring/Summer 2009 collection. The Canadian team had the pleasure (and the stress) of coordinating the entire event for the forth season. There was so much pressure going into this season, after having 3 massively successful shows the last 3 seasons. So what do we do to top them? As Daft Punk would say, “harder better faster stronger”. And that’s exactly what we did.

to the rafters, literally, looking for anywhere to sit/stand to catch a view of the purple hued runway. Blake McGrath of So You Think You Can Dance fame opened the show with a series of flips down the runway to a roaring audience & set the tone for the rest of the show. The models thrived off the energy in the room and pulled out every stop to make this gsus show the most memorable one to date.

On a chilly evening, 1,200 fashion media, celebs & gsus fans packed the runway tent

ok, cool... but what did other people think? (as if you care...)

“After 4 days of shows, a few too many after parties and a definite lack of sleep, even we can start to lose our appetite for fashion (if only temporarily)! That’s how we felt when we walked into the tents for the gsus sindustries Spring 2009 show at L’Oreal Fashion Week in Toronto last week. Our desire to crawl into bed and forget about the rest of the shows was immediately forgotten the moment So You Think You Can Dance’s Blake McGrath stepped (or should we say flipped??) onto the runway to open the show. Between yummy male models ripping off their shirts to full blown makeout sessions on the catwalk, the gsus sindustries show was so entertaining, we kind of forgot to pay attention to the clothes!” - stylehog.com “The show kicked off with So You Think You Can Dance Canada’s top choreographer Blake McGrath popping and flipping down the runway, was nothing less than radical. The gorgeous male and female models owned the catwalk sporting the geometric Californian-inspired collection that was like sneaking a peak into Sonny and Cher’s 1970s closet. The guys collection ranged from mint green tapered golf pants covered in graphic parrots to pastel coloured cardis to cozy zip up hoodies. The girl’s collection featured an all jean Canadian tuxedo, graphic red, orange and pink minis to show off the gams and geometric one-piece bathers that make tanning a tricky feat. The philosophy behind the collections laidback designs was reflected in the highenergy vibe of the show. The models were clearly instructed to interact with the audience and have fun wearing the clothes. All in all the gsus sindustries show, where lips collided and beach bikes rolled down the runway, was a breath of fresh Dutch air!” - pinkmafia.ca “The best candy comes with very little wrapping and a very tasty centre. However sometimes the best part of the candy is unwrapping it.” - fabmagazine.com “We appreciate the artistry, creativity and craftsmanship of designers but at the end of the day fashion should still feel fun - and these guys definitely didn’t forget that. At a show so packed, the aisles were coveted territory, we watched great models (and great guest models like Traci Melchor), in great clothes having, yes, a great time.” - sweetspot.ca

our own stores

........................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................... why, what, when, how?

Whenever you feel the need to get a new fix of gsus discoveries there’s no better place to start than at one of our own stores. They’re our very own churches of discoveries (no, we’re still not down with the man upstairs) where the latest discoveries we’ve put together are on display. We’ve also packed them with curious items found on our trips around the globe and a few other clothing brands that we find new and refreshing. All in all, there’s always plenty to discover both in the way the store has been designed (which is unique for each store) and in the products we have on offer for you. We’ve also put a lot of effort into making the atmosphere of the store give you a homely and relaxed vibe so you’ll feel comfortable trying out our products. Since we want to keep you coming back to our stores for your fix of recent discoveries we refresh the range of products on a regular basis and throw in a little happening every now and then. Most of our stores are located in or around Europe, but we’re always looking to expand our borders so don’t be surprised if we happen to open one in your home town in the future. I was volunteering with the F-list, so I saw it from outside and I just couldn’t stop looking at the clothes and the show overall. There was a great energy about the show which i loved. Personally I’m a big color person, so when i saw all the colors on the runway I almost died. They were fresh, new and different. Again, I applaud you on a great night and beautiful show. Take care Sandy D

Peace

Subject: My Profound Love for Yous Guys Message: Dear Gsus (note the capital G):

Subject: Melbourne Shop Message: Hey guys, I’ve lived in Dubai for a few years and saw your clothing shops in Wafi and Satwa. Now I am in Melbourne and frustrated by the fact that you’re nowhere to be found. Any plans of setting up a branch down under Victoria? I know you’ve got a retail shop in Sydney, but that’s nowhere near Melbourne. I absolutely feel that you should have a playground in Melbourne! I need your clothes, and I will keep on sending you my love letters, even if it means setting up a cult shop here for you, I will be jumping in ecstasy to see you down in Vic! Your style is untradeable and undeniably one of the fashion playgrounds fashion freaks have long been waiting for. So, please let me know if you’ve got something on.

I am an avid follower. I am wearing your acid-yellow cardigan with the native print on the back AS I TYPE. I recently discovered Gsus in a little specialty clothing store, and have been hooked ever since. You guy rock. I love your concepts, and the sort of twister, fucked up military/utilitarian feel of you new line, and you logo. Damn, that thing is sexy. Thank you for making fashion about more that freaking Abercrombie and Fitch. The way that the shapes and colours of your clothes often tempt the boundaries of acceptance (and maybe sanity) completely sets this brand apart from the mainstream. I hope do design for you some day, when I’ve gotten a little more experience (and, lets face it, a couple more years under my belt). In closing, I will continue to watch Gsus for the latest and greatest. Thanks, -Emma Paul, 16 Subject: _blank

medieval shoes

Hello, mijn Nederlands is verschrikkelijk en u lees waarschijnlijk Engels hartstikke goed, dus ik hoop dat u het niet erg vind als ik aan u in Engels schrijft.Hi,Graeme Park here, writing from Amsterdam.I am embarking on a project and I was wondering if you want to help or be involved in some way or other.I want to make some replicas of medieval pointy shoes and get them made probably in the far east and sell them, like as a mass produced article. They would have to be adjusted to conform to the technical standards and market expectations of today but would appear as close as possible to the historic article. They would look great with your clothes too and you could even ride a Gsus bicycle with them.Maybe if you can’t help then I could sell you some if I got them made .They will be very good and super degelijk and fun and trendy and everybody will want to buy them - and profitable too!Are you interested ,hello,is there anybody out there.Do you have ,like someone who I could t alk too.You can see me on www. craeven.eu. I have just completed a collection of medieval rings .The website is lousy and needs redoing.Well, get back to me... yours sincerely,Graeme Park.

doesnt she look sweet ja het is een zij genaamd tazz! met Gsus Cap en op Gsus partymat Even dogs like it! Grtn Remco

Forever hoping, JC
