Choosing the Right Place to Live Finding the perfect place to live can be as difficult as finding a needle in a haystack. Maybe you won’t even recognize it until you see it, but here are a few tips to help you narrow down the search to one city or at least a state.
Affordability There are certain parts of the country that you know are going to cost more than others. If you want to live in New York, California, or Hawaii, real estate is rare and prime real estate is expensive. Alaskan citizens, on the other hand, are actually paid a stipend just for living there and populating the state with their bodies. Consider just how much you are willing to spend on a house, on groceries, and on gas or transportation in order to narrow down where you want to live.
Jobs Before you decide on a place to settle down, it’s a good idea to review your job options. The Internet has become the greatest resource to find available positions these days and it is right at your fingertips. Search websites such as Salary.com or Craigslist to see the average salaries of your potential positions. Determine what is best for you and your job and go from there.
Climate There is a term for retired couples who can afford two houses in two different sides in the country in order to avoid extreme heat and extreme winter. These people are called “snow birds,” and they know exactly what they want. If they live in the north for the summer and the south for the winter, the weather will never be too harsh for them. However, not all of us can live this way. Oftentimes we have to make a choice. Would we rather be scorching hot in the summer or drowning in snow in the winter? If this factor is important to you, your hair, or your skin, consider climates when you choose your future home.
Family and Friends You’d have to be really adventurous to be willing to move far away from any family or friends. This may not be an issue if you are already moving with your family, but consider all of your extended family and your friends. If the distance is too far to bear, consider living somewhere closer to home. After all, there’s no place like home.
These are just a few of the many factors that you must consider when you are looking for a new place to live. But there’s no need to commit to one location right off the bat. Renting homes is a great idea to get the feel of a location before you decide to buy. There are homes all over the country from Boston to Las Vegas that are available for rent. Look online to find the best house for you that will encompass all of these factors and more. Finding your dream home doesn’t have to be as stressful as finding a needle in a haystack.
