Writing and Editing Your Performance Work Statement A performance work statement can be a great way to move up in your company. There are many people that fill out their performance work statement on a consistent basis to ensure that they are getting the promotion that they feel they deserve as a result of the work that they are doing. When you are dealing with a performance work statement, you should understand how to portray yourself in the best light. It is important that you are honest but it is also important that you understand how you are going to paint the best picture that you can for a promotion.

Get Organized First, you want to make sure that you write down all of your big projects and the responsibilities that you have had throughout the year. No matter what type of job that you have, you should be sure that you can write down the responsibilities that were most time consuming. Write down the biggest projects or the biggest accounts that you have been responsible for first. After you have everything written down you will want to go through your performance work statement and specify what you did while you were working with the accounts or clients. It is important to keep track of what you are doing throughout the time that you are working. You want to make sure that you know what type of progress you have made and how much progress you are making with the clients or projects that you are working on.

Draft and Revise Make sure that you create a rough draft before your final draft, you want to make sure that you do not have any errors throughout the sheet. Because you are writing this for your employer, you should not exaggerate the truth or make any aspects of this sheet up. Your employer will be able to catch those discrepancies immediately and you do not want to be caught doing this during the time of a performance self-review. After you write your rough draft, have it sit for a day without looking at it or touching it once. When the draft sits, you will be able to come back and look at it with fresh eyes and ensure that you are writing and submitting something that is up to par. While you are making edits, you can add more examples of excellent work that you have done.

You may want to get into smaller clients or smaller accounts at this point. This way, you can be sure that you are going to be able to make the best case possible for your promotion, your raise or even for keeping your job. Investing yourself in your performance work statement will ensure that you are doing all that you can for your career. Make sure that you stick with a consistent schedule for your work statement to ensure that you are getting your work statements submitted on time and that your boss always has the most recent performance work statement about your work available to read.
