Home Remedies to Carpet, Couch and Clothing Stains If you’re gearing up to host guests over to your modular home this holiday season, then you’ll want to have everything prepared. Getting the decorations up is a must. Tidying up the place is obvious. You’ll need to buy all the preparations for food and make sure you have enough place sets for everyone coming. These are the traditional things you do to prepare for guests through the holidays. What you don’t always think about is what will happen if someone spills on your carpet, your couches or themselves.
Bring on the Stains Are you prepared to deal with the stains to come? If not, here are a few things you can stock in your home to prepare for those unfortunate spills. For the purposes of this article, the focus will be on getting grape stains out of these things. You can always drop by the store to find a pre-made product to help you get things out. Many of these work, and others don’t. Read a few reviews online about products and then go out to get one. There are a few home remedies as well you can try. Or, you can work a little home laboratory experiments to do the same for cheaper. Borax has been a help for small stains in clothes and carpets. Presoak the stained clothes in 1 tablespoon of borax to every gallon of water you use. Leave it in there for an hour and then throw it in the laundry. For carpets you will want to create your own solution. Combine ½ cup of borax with 2 cups of water. Mix it in well and then dip a clean white cloth into it. Using the cloth, dab the solution onto the stains. Leave it on for about half an hour. Then, using a new white cloth and cold water, sponge the spot to get rid of the Borax/water mixture. Dry that part of the carpet by dropping a dry towel onto it—note, this does not mean scrub; just lightly tap it until it’s dry. When the carpet is dry, you should vacuum the area well to finish the process. Some have found success by simply applying a warm cloth to the surface.
Be very careful not to rub the juice in further. Let it sit for about 3 minutes, then lift it up and put salt on it. Wait a minute or two and then clean up the salt. Repeat the process a few times. The last thing you should do is leave the warm cloth to sit on it for a final 3 minutes before letting it be. Finally, you can try using hydrogen peroxide.
Random Remedies This useful stuff can do more than just whiten teeth and clean out wounds, it can help get stains out too. Start by pouring a drop or two onto a very inconspicuous portion of the fabric to test it. If there is any color removal present, don’t use it on that fabric as it will ruin the color. If there is no problem, then pour a small amount onto the stain and let it soak. Launder that fabric as usual to clean it up. The hydrogen peroxide will work its magic separately.
