4 Ways Bleach Can Help Your Home Bleach is a wonderful cleaning agent. It comes in many shapes, sizes, chemical makeups, and names. Different bleaches are meant for different purposes. They all do the same basic thing. They all remove or lighten color. They are commonly used to get stains out of clothes. Tide’s bleach pen is especially famous for this. Did you know it can take care of at least 4 other household chores better? The following are 4 uses you may not have known bleach could do for you.
Sterilizing First, it is a great sterilizer. When you question the cleanliness of a water bottle or toy you picked up from a secondhand store (i.e. good will or garage sale), grab ¾ a cup of this stuff and mix it with a few drops of antibacterial dishwashing soap and a gallon of warm water. Leave it in the mixture for 5-10 minutes, and then rinse it out completely. Put it out to dry in the sun and feel confident in its sterilization. This sterilization technique is especially effective for cleaning up cutting boards you put raw meat on. You aren’t limited to sanitizing these items alone. Also give them a shot on your plastic lawn furniture, plastic trash cans, garden tools, and tub floors. Second, use it to brighten your glass dishes.
Cleaning glass Bleach can clear up your glass better than many dishwashers will. Use a teaspoon in your sink of soapy water. Mix it around and then begin cleaning your glasses. Rinse very well and dry with a soft towel. The result is a shinier, better glass surface. You will restore the original look of your glasses.
Flowers
Third, you can lengthen the life of your cut flowers. Although it’s traditionally known as a killer, it can actually keep a flower fresh. Adding ¼ of a teaspoon of bleach with a liter of vase water will help them stay vital longer. It does so by slowing down bacterial growth. The bacteria is the thing that puts a quick end to your flower’s beauty. Bleach does its work by damaging the materials that would harm your flowers. Obviously putting too much of the chemical in the vase will kill the flowers. Just a few drops will help them though.
Walkways Fourth, bring it back out to do its dirty work on the weeks in your walkways. Weeds have the worst habit of getting between the cracks of your sidewalk, sprouting dandelions and other obnoxious weeds everywhere you step. You can kill them by pouring a bit of undiluted bleach at their roots. It should make them easy to pull in a couple of days and keep them from coming back. This can be a dangerous tool though if it gets in your grass or planters. Be careful where you put the bleach and how much you throw in there.
