How to Be a Safe Driver Most adults in the United States hold a current and up-to-date driver’s license in their state. This license enables them to be able to operate and control a motor vehicle out on the roads of America. The procedures to obtain a driver’s license differ by state, but are generally the same across the country. Students around the age of 16 must practice driving either as part of a course or with their parents, and then they must take a driving and a written exam. After they have practiced driving and passed both exams, they are given the opportunity to get a driver’s license. Although the days of driver’s training courses is long gone for many of us, it is still important to remember those basic facts that we learned in those courses. We are driving almost every day, after all, so it is important that we keep our memories fresh so that we may all be safe drivers. One of the most important things you can do to be a safe driver is to follow the speed limit.

Speed Limits Although speed limits can sometimes seem obnoxious, following the speed limit is crucial for ensuring your safety and the safety of the other drivers on the road. Studies have shown that for every mile per hour that an individual drives, their chances of being an accident increase by 5%. Basically, the faster you drive, the higher your risk of getting into a car accident. Statistics like these can be sobering for people who have never thought about their speeding in such a light. Although it may be uncomfortable, it is important for people to realize the possible risks of their behaviors. For some people, speeding has become a habit. If they are driving, they are speeding. People get in such a hurry while they’re driving that they do not even consider going the speed limit because it seems far too slow to them.

We can only hope that these people will see the error of their ways and learn to follow the speed limit before they have to learn that lesson the hard way. Another important thing to remember in order to be a safe driver is to avoid distractions.

Distractions Driving distractions come in many, many different forms. One of the most detrimental and popular forms of driving distractions is cell phone. You may not believe it, but there are people who text while they’re driving. Texting while driving increases your chances of getting into a car accident significantly. Talking on your phone while driving is also not a good idea. Anything that talks your attention away from the road and the cars around you is going to increase your risk of getting into a car accident. It is safe to assume that no one wants to get into a car accident, so it makes sense that people will choose not to drive distracted.
