Upgrading Your Website to Increase Conversions Feeling a bit bored with your current website design? Or maybe you’re just looking to update you’re the look and feel to improve conversion rates. Whatever the reason, you’re here looking for some tips about how you can update your page. Here are a few good tips to think about implementing as you begin to edit.

What to Change Remove flash. If you’re website is using flash on your website, get rid of it. For one, it’s not helping your SEO ranking. Search engines can’t read a flash program and therefore can’t find keywords and phrases that you’re advertising. For another, it’s probably too design heavy to actually navigate through. Sticking to standard webpage structure is the best way to ensure people know how to get where they want to go. Removing a flash program will aid the usability of your site. If you’re in love with what the flash does, find a way to program the site to do exactly what the flash program is doing. Avoid using frames at all costs. They do help keep a header or menu throughout the browsing experience, but they don’t allow you to have subdomains. These subdomains allow people to link to specific pages on your site. Rework the copy on your site. If you have the means, hire a copywriter to come spice up your content. Ask them to come make the language marketable and compelling. When it comes to website copy, don’t let it get old and outdated. Refresh it with something new. Compare your site to others like yours. Find out what design elements are becoming popular and at least match that. People are more comfortable with a “trendy” site and will have a better feeling about it. That better feeling could help them purchase your product. Find ways to minimize your load time. People will bounce off a page if it’s taking too long to load. Even the most popular sites will lose visitors that day if the load time is too long. Remove things that need to buffer or time to load. Also minimize your graphics and scripts as they will increase your website’s size. Also make sure your code is efficient and optimized.

Getting People to Come Back Make your website scalable. Your website looks different on a computer than it does on a smart phone. There’s a new trend going around that will auto adjust the size or placement of your pictures, text and objects so that they fit certain screen sizes. Since you’re never sure how someone will find your site, you want to make sure it auto-adjusts according to the screen they’re looking at. Seeing a website that’s usually meant for a 15” screen reduced to a 3” screen can be hard to get excited about. Make your site scalable. Finally, consider adding more valuable content to your website. Find a way to make your website valuable so that people will tell others about you. Update a snow report on a nearby mountain or field that people like to ski or snowmobile on. Give good advice on a topic that you know well. If you provide your visitors something to come back and see again, they’ll tell their friends about it. These are just a few ideas. Use them or forget them at will according to your desires. Whatever you deem is wrong with your site, fix it to better your user experience. Alphagraphics is a web design company in Ogden.
