Redemtion Shelter Our proposal is for the site option # 1
that is located on 3rd street and Main. Our facility targets the people coming out of jail that want to change. The program starts from the court system that gives the individual the opportunity to better themselves and make a smoother transition in to society. The reason for the program is that so the individuals do not end up in the critical part of skid row where all the drugs are distributed. The opportunity of using again is taken away from their choice and an alternative choice of education and work placement is presented. The facility also has overnight sleeping corridors for the reaming homeless population. It is on a fist come first serve bases and they get a bed, a locker and access to medical aid if needed. Overall we serve to the person that want to change and is willing to fallow the programme. We give them the tools to succeed and give them guidance to a smoother transition in to society.

Understanding Structural Systems Pick a steel structure system, by fallowing the given rules for span and load transfer, ultimately create a steel structure in a urban site. The main program in this project is an amphitheatre which the community can use for concerts of just an overall gathering space. The steel structure cantilevers over the amphitheatre to create shading for people sitting down. Circulation within the structure takes you up in elevation and it take you up to a high vantage point that overlooks the city.

“All architecture is shelter, all great architecture is the design of space that contains, cuddles, exalts, or stimulates the persons in that space. Philip Johnson

2069 Carpool Housing
Potential building sites
s la cienega blvd
The existence of infrastructure and its over powering presents has always impacted the urban fabric. My site is located on the corner of 120th and s La Cienega blvd. The area is impacted by LAX also by the 405 Freeway. There are many sites in LA that are heavily impacted by the infrastructure that surrounds them. many people have accepted the fact the they must live in harmony with the infrastructure surrounds them. The location that was most interesting is this void between the 405 freeway. This space can be referred to as a “lost space. There are many instances just like this in LA and all over the world that we can use as habitable space. In the year 2069 when most cars become electric and there are 0 CO2 emissions these spaces now can become viable space for residential or commercial habitation. The design process is determined by the flow of traffic flow which will lay out the approach and exit of the building. The exterior skin is based on a branching method, which starts from one point and converges to many then back to one again. The skin acts as the structure and the overall experiential component of the building. The overall experience of the housing is convergence and interaction. There are no doors there are only sliding glass doors which keep the occupant visually connected to one another and the surrounding environment. The central court yard is the point of convergence in which the occupants are given the opportunity to unite. Finally there is a auditorium on the lower floor and a gallery space for the use of the neighbouring properties.

Architecture is life, or at least it is life itself taking form and therefore it is the truest record of life as it was lived in the world yesterday, as it is lived today or ever will be lived. Frank Lloyd Wright

Griffith Park Cemetery
The Griffith Park Cemetery is a topological surfaces that is accessible to all. The slope of the surface is 1:12 in order to give handicaps and all other the ability to circulate on the entire surfaces. There is a main spine of circulation and the burial plots slope up on the two sides and give you the opportunity to go left or right. The landscape is divided in segments and at the point were the two surfaces meet the chapels are erect to mark the important of the landscape shit. The chapels are also elevated above the landscape to create hierarchy and also a viewing platform to downtown. This idea is based on optimism and present of life after death. When the ceremony is held at the chapels the family members get an uplifting feeling and a break from the given situation by just taking in the life visible outside the cemetery walls. This gives them time to heal and help them stay more at ease with the tragic death in the family. N

Paper Surface
Paper Surface The paper model is a based on the Yokohama Port Terminal idea of having a continues surface that creates spaces over and under the surface. By creating cuts in to the paper and applying incremental rotation and connections, a module was created. The module was copied and mirrored several times till a topological surface is created.

Jean-Marie Tjibaou Cultural Centre. This the origin of this structure is from Renzo Piano the Jean-Marie Tjibaou Cultural Centre. the building has a wooden egg like skin system that was supported by these casted metal pieces. We came up with a better alternative to the casting metal by cutting the metal pieces out of sheets of metal and welding them together. Then the pieces were later bondoed and painted to give it the look of being all one piece. finally the wooden elements were added to the meal ultimately creating the structure.

The culinary institute is located in Hollywood and St Andrews and it accommodates all the needs that a culinary student needs to succeed. The front of the building has a glass facade in order to create a theatrical environment for the passing pedestrians. Also it protrudes out in to the sidewalk in order to break the flat commercial building facade and to draw more attention to the culinary institute. The institute is also present for the community providing cooking classes and passing out food to the public after being prepared.

Materials and Methods zero 90 pasadena city college team members: Robert Panossian, Cevak Satourian, Hugo Garcia Instructor: coleman grifith, Dionicio Valdez Semester: fall 2008
Zero90
Zero90 aims to challenge the multi-dimensional potential of a two-dimensional board of plywood. While serving as an advocate for the efficient use of resources, it also promotes the efficient use of space. Individual components interlock with one another via a system of ‘scissor joints’ and, in the process, create usable adjacent spaces on the exterior of the connection. Working on the notion of ‘zero waste,’ these exterior spaces are then incorporated into a larger system that contribute to the structural rigidity and the compartmentalization of space within the model. Two components, designed to blend in as shelves, together serve as the “key” which locks the two halves of the model together allowing it to pivot laterally, thereby multiplying usable space and transforming the model from a common wall-dweller into a room centerpiece. Two compartments have the ability to slide and relocate a space that was once within the model to the outside, beyond the enclosing walls. The result is a transformable piece of furniture that can be configured according to its context or the user’s preference.
