ShelterThem. Dear Animal Champion, Are you in or out? The lives of thousands of animals depend on your answer. Since 1912, the Humane Society of Tampa Bay has served our community by finding homes for strays, animals surrendered by their owners, and those who are neglected, abandoned, and abused. They don’t ask for much; a gentle touch, a bowl of food. But we don’t stop there; we give them everything they need. We feed them, shelter them, treat them for illness and injury, and give them medical attention they need to live healthy lives. Most of all, we love them and give them a safe, happy place to wait for their new lives to begin. After 100+ years of faithful service to animals, we find that our current facility no longer meets our needs or the needs of the animals. Our kennels are not climate controlled, we do not have isolation rooms for sick animals, and our surgical suite is prohibitively small. In addition, the normal wear and tear on a 55+ year-old building keeps us in a constant and costly state of repair and maintenance. We cannot continue to fulfill our mission in our current building. That is why we are planning the construction of a new, 42,000-square-foot shelter that will double our current space and allow us to save an additional 2,000 animals each year. In order to do this, we need you to partner with us in this vision. Our charge is simple: Shelter Them. They are out there and they are in need. Only you can help us carry on our important work for the next 100 years. And so we ask: Are you in or out?

Sherry Silk Chief Executive Officer

You’re in: you give Clyde, Bozo, Patches, Jangles, and 10,000 of their closest friends are saved and sheltered until they find a new home.

You’re out: you don’t give They remain nameless, homeless, and hopeless.

This community and the welfare of its animals is a reflection of all of us. Thousands of lives depend on us to shelter them. We depend on you to build that shelter. Thank you for caring, loving, and supporting those who have no voice. They share the heart of Tampa, and they need you. SHELTER THEM.

Main Level

Challenge. The Humane Society of Tampa Bay (HSTB) is one of the oldest charities in the State of Florida and has been saving homeless animals for more than 100 years. Founded in 1912, HSTB has been at its West Tampa location since 1928. The current shelter was constructed in 1959 and received additions in 1980. Marked expansion in our programs, services and community outreach has left our facility antiquated and unable to meet our needs:

Solution . To continue serving the needs of homeless animals safely, effectively and humanely, a new building is imperative. Careful research has led us to the following vision for rebuilding: •

42,000-square-foot, multi-story facility

• • • • • •

Will more than double our adoption capacity Will shelter more than 10,000 animals annually Will be built on or directly adjacent to our current property Projected cost of $11,000,000 Will include nurseries for underage litters of puppies and kittens Will include isolation area for sick animals to reduce the spread of disease

• •

Will include an expanded surgical suite to address a greater variety of needs Will include climate control in all areas

Promise. In the past several decades, the Humane Society of Tampa Bay’s role in the community has grown tremendously. The public supports our position as a managed admission shelter (no-kill for space) and turns to us for help with owned animals or strays who need new homes. We do not take this responsibility lightly and will continue to expand our life-saving work and to help decrease the euthanasia rate in Hillsborough County. Our promise to the community is to find homes for as many adoptable animals as possible.
