THE RECORD KEEPER When the Record Keeper searches for truth... there are no secrets. Facebook.com/TheRecordKeeper BIG CITIES, BIG OPPORTUNITIES The world is rapidly moving to an urban explosion. Urban growth is staggering, and this poses a formidable challenge to the proclamation of God’s Word. Mission to cities is a commanding call. These great metropolises are now the biggest mission challenge for spreading the gospel. We need committed followers of Jesus to live and work among urban dwellers, being spiritual salt in the city. Any initiative to reach the large cities of the world must be a long-term initiative that includes a variety of ministries and approaches. Life Hope Centers and Church Planting are an important part of this initiative. Gerson P. Santos, Ph.D., is director of the Global Mission Urban Center, and he promotes the Mission to the Cities initiative for the General Conference (www.missiontothecities.org). We call them crises and they range from fires, deaths and natural disasters to embezzlement, the aftermath of a pastor’s arrest or dismissal and incidents at our schools that draw media attention. As communicators, our role is to help administrators think, talk and work through these tough times and situations. How we handle each crisis and what we say impacts the larger church family, our brand and sometimes our bottom line. Celeste Ryan Blyden is the Communication director for the Columbia Union Conference.
