Job clubs & drop-ins
We hold a number of job clubs and drop-ins to offer you support and advice on a range of topics at our Digital Dens. Whether you are looking for a job, need help writing your CV, want to learn how to use computers or would just like general housing advice there are lots of opportunities for you to come along and see how we can help you. 1-2-1 support
Individual 1-2-1 support to help you on your journey into work is available to Severnside residents. A designated officer will help you: • Develop your skills and confidence • Search and apply for jobs • Work on your CV • Research training courses that will help you get into work Some of Severnside’s job clubs and 1-2-1 support sessions are funding by the Building Better Opportunities project. The Building Better Opportunities project brings together funding from the Big Lottery Fund and the European Social Fund (ESF) to help tackle the poverty and social exclusion faced by the most disadvantaged people in England.

Work experience & placements
We can offer work experience placements to people who will benefit from spending time in an office environment. We currently offer either two week or eight week work placements in an administrative or customer service role and hope to offer more opportunities as our programme develops. Our eight week work placements are delivered in partnership with the Job Centre. You will be allocated a mentor to support you through your work placement and an action plan will be completed at the start of your placement to identify key areas in which you would like to gain experience. Follow up support is also available once the placement has ended to help you move into work. Please contact your Job Centre Work Coach for a referral to us.

Applying for jobs workshops (4 week course) Our weekly jobs workshops will take you through training and guidance to support you into work. Covering your journey from initial job searching through to interview, we will give you hints and tips and hands on exercises to help you get the job!

Arts & crafts Join us for a range of arts and crafts to suit all ages and abilities. Share your new found skills with friends and family. Our two hour workshop is open to everyone, including children accompanied by an adult.

City & Guilds Entry Level 3 Certificate in Online Basics Would you like a certificate in IT online skills to add to your CV? This course, offered in partnership with the Good Things Foundation, is an opportunity to complete online courses through Learn My Way and progress to a City & Guilds Entry Level 3 Certificate. There will be an assessment to gain this qualification. The key elements of this course can be completed online at any of our job clubs and drop-ins, or in the comfort of your own home. Once you have completed the modules on Learn My Way we will register you for the assessment.
You will learn how to: • Communicate using email • Search the internet • Use the internet safely
Cost: £12.50
Prince’s Trust Team Programme If you are aged between 16 and 25 and are not in education, employment or training this is the ideal course for you. This 12 week team programme will give you the opportunity to build your confidence, develop new skills and help you take the next step into employment or further education. It’s the chance of a lifetime — so why not give it a go?
During the programme you will: • Gain qualifications and work experience • Take part in community projects
• Enjoy a week-long residential with lots of team building activities.

Upcycling This course will teach you easy techniques to recycle items from around the home. Don’t throw away that old jumper or broken piece of jewellery, bring it along and see how you can re-vamp or re-purpose it. Our two hour workshop is open to everyone, including children accompanied by an adult.
You will learn how to: • Re-purpose or re-fashion your old or ill-fitting clothes • Re-vamp old and broken jewellery and accessories

CSCS cards The CSCS scheme confirms you have the right training and qualifications to work on a construction site. Most contractors and builders require their workers to hold a valid CSCS card and this course will help you gain a valid six month provisional CSCS card. This is a first step to gaining a longer standing role specific CSCS card, which your current or future employer may help you to gain. This training course is available through National Careers. Before you take the test you will need to complete a series of training sessions. However, you can continue the training until you feel ready to take the test. Course cost: The cost of the course and the test are funded through Job Change. However, if you need to retake the test you will need to meet this cost.

Safeguarding everyone
This module will form an introduction to the safeguarding of young and vulnerable people. It will emphasise how important it is for practitioners to ensure the safety and security of anyone in their care, or who they come into contact with in their role.

Back injury is the main reason for absence from the workplace and one third of all reported injuries that result in three days off work are cause by manual handling accidents. Employers are required by law to take reasonable steps to safeguard the health and safety of all employees, one of which is increasing awareness about the hazards related to manual handling, and outlining what can be done to minimise risk. This outline manual handling module provides learners with the knowledge they need in order to reduce the chance of incurring an injury whilst manually handling loads in their work environment.

Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate in Catering An online qualification that can be completed at home or anywhere with internet access. Once started, you have a month to complete the course. As well as gaining your ‘Qualifi’ accreditation certificate, you will also learn vital skills for working in catering. This course meets health and safety requirements so is suitable for anyone wishing to serve or sell food, as well as anyone wishing to improve their food hygiene skills.

Grant funding
Our grant funding can support you if you are on a low income and are unable to fund training that will help you find employment. If you are a Severnside resident you can make up to two grant funding applications a year. However, funding will be limited to a maximum of £100. To get started on applying for grant funding you will need to have a clear idea of the following: • Training course or learning opportunity • Cost of training • How the training will improve your chances of finding employment Our officers will then be able help you make a full application.

Digital Dens
Our Digital Dens at Castlefields and Meole Brace are helping our customers bridge the digital divide and get online. The Dens offer cyber-cafĂŠ style facilities with free internet access which is ideal for getting online to make claims, search for jobs and make savings through online shopping. Delivered in partnership with Social Telecoms the Dens provide affordable access to broadband and wi-fi services, along with refurbished equipment for sale.
