Seward’s historic downtown and picturesque harbor are rife with history and culture. Past, present, and future combine to make Seward a unique place to learn, engage, and explore.

Mural Walk

Spend an afternoon exploring the 30+ vibrant murals dotting Seward, proudly known as the ' Mural Capital of Alaska .' Under direction from the Seward Mural Society (p. 79), each painting depicts unique historical characters, local events, and natural landscapes while celebrating the beauty and spirit of Alaska.

Community Museum

Curated by Resurrection Bay Historical Society, the Seward Community Library & Museum (p. 61) houses a collection that documents Seward’s past. The museum is located on the first floor of the city library and hosts events about historical people and events throughout the year.

Historic Walking Tour

Created by the Seward Historic Preservation Commission , the Seward Historical Walking Tour includes 46 sites, with 26 interpretative panels throughout downtown Seward showcasing our town’s rich history. Start the tour wherever you’d like after picking up a map at the Seward Chamber of Commerce

Native Community

In the Alutiiq language the site of Seward is known as Qutekcak, or “big beach,” and today the Qutekcak Native Tribe (p. 79) serves the multi-ethnic Native community of the Seward area through a variety of social, cultural, and community programs.
