Our Neighbors Are Wild
You don’t have to travel far to have amazing wildlife encounters in Seward. Many species can be spotted from town, including the Steller sea lion, sea otter, harbor seal, humpback whale, bald eagle, seabirds, and more. Our waterfront path and boat harbor are two excellent places to start scouting.
Of course, your chances of seeing wildlife increase the farther you travel into the Kenai Fjords. We recommend that all visitors venture out on the water at least once during their stay. Learn how on pp. 20–21.
BIRDS OF SEA & SKY
Seward is a birder’s paradise with more than 190 species documented in and around Kenai Fjords. Common birds include horned and tufted puffins, kittiwakes, murres, bald eagle, and Steller’s jay. Wildlife cruises are the best way to access renowned birding hotspots like the Chiswell Islands. Some operators even offer special tours for bird enthusiasts.
