#UNFOLD A pavilion created from hashtag datas for Fabrication Festival At Architecture Faculty of Westminster University in London, UK
#UNFOLD #UNFOLD Pavilion designed for the FabFest ‘17 Fabrication Festival competition at University of Westminster, London. Our team (ECOFAB) won 1st in Hawtorn Interaction Prize and 3rd in Architecture Prize.#UNFOLD aims to re-interpret and manipulate the concepts of diversity, uncertainty and standardisation. Since Twitter reflects the diversity of ideas an alternative form of participation to the “Pop-up City” can be unfolded. The visualisation of the twitter data gives a shape to the pavilion. The map of downtown London was overlapped with a grid as a standardisation. Each node of this grid is examined for the density of tweets for #london, which is constantly changing. The actual form of the #UNFOLD represents one of the captured moments of the uncertainty.
#UNFOLD displays a map section which is a graphical visualization of the tweets at a certain moment coming from the selected area including Thames River. While the lowdensity of the tweets on the area defines the hollow spaces of the pavilion and encourages people to walk through by creating a path high-density of the tweets demonstrated by the parts that touch to ground. The participants are also encouraged to bend, crawl, and stand to experience the 3D visualisation of the twitter data. #UNFOLD is one materialized frozen moment of the endless dataflow from twitter. team ecofab Mentor - Asst. desÄągn process By using Rhino Grasshopper London central map was divided by a grid. #London was searched in relation with specific diameters on each node of the grid. The search results were drained for the last 24 hours. To visualize the quantitative results on the surface that we created from the grid, the structure was manipulated by lifting and lowering the surface from the nodes on the grid. The more the search results dense, the more the nodes touch the ground, and vice versa. In the end product, the places where data is dense will determine where the pavilion touches the ground. The places that has less data will constitute a shelter.
conceptual model
joÄąnt detaÄąl Pavilion has 300 surfaces and each surface has different connection angle. For fixing every angle right and to be able to make the pavilion rigid and stabilized ve created a new joint technique. We offsetted all the edges of all the surfaces by calculating the angles with Grasshopper and created small triangles at every corner to hold the angles(you can see the formula on the right). Pavilion made with the 3.8mm corrugated cardboard and fabricated using only CNC cutting machines.Surfaces connected to each other with only cable ties and tape.

A bench for Winnipeg Design Festival At the edge of Simith Street in Winnipeg, Canada
ALL-IN All-In is a public furniture which designed for the The Bench’17 Canada competition.‘All-in’ creates a new point of view about public furniture. it copes with the lack of ergonomy and comfort taking place in crowded locations. Besides, ‘All-in’ does not only provide seating but also offers variety opportunities for people to work, rest, eat & drink. Also, its sculptural aspect brings new influence on the surrounding environment.
Above all, the structure designed with socialization and communication in mind.To achieve an integration by the means of society, ‘All-in’ signifies a compact and self-blending user experience within a public environment.‘All-in’ increases the rate of experience in the space. Structure made of plywood and it provides people a wide field of view in Winnipeg. [Building Construction Project Of 5th Semester]
unÄą-form A Weekend House For a Small Family
At the corner of Hill Street in Southampton NY, USA
UNI-FORM Villa UNI-FORM was designed for the Construction Building Project course. Main goal of this course was not to design a house but to create a building according to the municipality construction codes and by using specific construction technics. While working on the project we dealed with every construction detail and choosed every material top to bottom. We had very limited spaces to design because of the municipality codes so we work mostly on the function for the general form. Team Members :
Seyit Koyuncu, Ebrar Eke, Mert Koรงak
DESIGN IDEA UNI-FORM designed for a husband and wife as to be their weekend house where they generally invite their guests. General form of the building comes from the need for extra spaces. In normal zoning status of the real estate the limitation of the height of building was very low and limiting us to provide a better terrace and because of the ratio of allowable lot coverage we could be able to create a well protected veranda. So we basically turned the first floor 90° and pushed it forward to provide sun protection for veranda and open a big space for the terrace. UNI-FORM is a steel structure building in order to hold the console we used very thick steel I-beams.

A Small Shelter For The Mountain Climbers On The Edge Of A Cliff at Allahuekber Mountains In Kars, Turkey
VISTA-S Vista-S is designed for the enviromental control systems course. After examining Kars Sarıkamış district in Turkey we designed a small shelter for the climbers who joins the traditional Sarıkamış Walk on Allahuekber Mountains. Goal was the create a shelter which is fully isolated from the outside by using traditional building technics in Kars. Location of the shelter changes according to the weather conditions and the walk path.

MISSION MARS A Biomimetic Structural Organism On a rocky valley in Mounder Crater, Mars
MISSION MARS This project is the two-week workshop at my 4th Semester studio class. The mission of the project is to design a biomimetic structural organism that will function as a habitat for the first colonizers on Mars. This will be different from a typical structure on Earth, not only one that can withstand Mars’s conditions, but a standalone organism that may grow, move freely, reproduce and/or exterminate itself. The habitable space should be formed in accordance with the geographical and climatological conditions of Mars, which are quite different from those of Earth.
bıomımıcry Main idea was using the biomimicry techniques in our design so we choosed Romanesco plant to mimic and interpret its structural formation.Romanesco plant has a perfect algorithmic spiral. The florets of the vegetable resemble a natural fractal, in which each bud is composed of a series of smaller buds. All those bud units are the same shape but in different sizes as a pattern. This pattern is arranged in a Fibonacci series. All those buds are protecting the core of this plant from the insects and the bugs. This features of the plant was our starting points for our biomimetic design. The idea of how the little buds protect inside of the romanesco is used on the exterior shell. The frequent buds on shell protects the building from strong sand storms like the romanesco plant protects itself from dust and bugs.Main core that carries all the capsules is mimics the trunk branch relation of a romanesco plant. All the capsules are connected to main structure and desinged as rotatable so when sand storm begins, the capsules rotates 180° and the shell protects the capsules both sand and direct sun.Branched structure and the growing principle of the romanesco plant guided us to idea of spreading the Normal Position structure for future colonizers. As the numbers Of Main Tower of colonizers increase new towers connects eachother with this principle.

CAT-GEN Concrete molded cat nests for Kadıkoy
On the streets of Kadıkoy in Istanbul, Turkey
CAT-GEN CAT-GEN was designed for Modern Nests competition which organised by ‘TAK Kadıköy’ and sponsored by ‘ÇİMSA’. Main goal of the competition was to create nests for the alley cats. Nests should be designed as it can be molded. Reason for that is all the nests will be manufactured with concrete molding technique. Nests should be easy to clean and narrow so the dogs couldn’t get in. CAT-GEN project won the competition and plot experiments still continues.
CAT-GEN designed as to be comfortable for the cats and suitable for the streets, parks and public spaces.Multiple nests can be stacked together by putting them upside down. Triangular shape of the nest prevents the damages it can get from vandalism because it is hard to grip and roll over. For preventing dogs to enter the nest it is designed for cats dimensions. There are also removable caps for extra protection. There are no acute angles so it can be easily molded.
design features
water draÄąnages For the nest to be clean easily there are 2 drainage holes on the back of the nest. These holes are designed with a little slope inside so the water can be drained without any swiping. Also the small drainage on the top is reverse sloped so when the nest turned over it can again drain the water without swiping. There are offsetted parts on the back to block rainwater to come in.
feedÄąng bowls On the front there are 2 chambers for using as feeding bowls.People who lives nearby this nests and the municipal workers can feed the cats by putting water and cat food in this bowls. They designed in a perfect angle so it is easy to clean just by blowing water inside. When the nest turned over and stacked multiple they work as a roof overhang and prevents rainwater to come in.
water draÄąnages 2 At the back nests walls are offsetted 5cm so when the nest pushed against the wall the water coming from the drainage holes can be easily drained.By that while cleaning the nest there is no need to pull them from its place.

amphÄąsbaena tower A Parametric Tower Designed With Rhino-Grasshopper On top of the Bonhill Street In London, England
amphÄąsbaena tower Amphisbaena Tower was designed as the Computational Design Course project with Rhino-Grasshopper. Amphisbaena Tower is located in London,England. Building has inspired from the mythical 2 headed serpent from Greek mythology Amphisbaena.Amphisbaena Tower has 40 stories and 2 foundations on both side of the road. While designing the building main concerns was the Wind load and blocking the direct sunlight and solar effects. After creating the main floor plans according the wind parameters building formed to its shape. One of the biggest concern of tall buildings is the wind loads. While designing Amphisbaena Tower wind load of the region was calculated and parameters used for forming the facade to its shape. This provides to deflect the winds from any angle.
Primary structure detaching at several points along its profile in order to allow wind to penatrate in.This minimises any shake effect caused by the large wind loads. From top building starts as one structural system but at 30th floor it divides into 2 structures which touches the different side of the road. The facade of the structure complately covered with glass. Building curves accordingly the the parameters that comes from calculating the path of the sun to reduce the sunlight exposed glazing amount.By reducing the direct sunlight flat owners would be protected from the sun during the day.
Amphisbaena Tower has 2 foundation on different parcels opposite sides of the Bohill Street. This prevents the building from blocking the road and walkpath. After 30th floor 2 structures comes together as one. Structures comes together at the measured distance parameters that calculated by the POV (point of view) of the people to avoid blocking the city silhouette. Building has 2 different entries for different purposes. This building designed only with the orginal Grasshopper components withouth using any plug-ins.
