Residences at Equality Park, coupled with The Pride Center’s ever-growing seniors programming – the largest LGBT seniors program in the nation – will help give these residents a permanent and safe place to live along with the supportive services they need to stay there.” According to Boo, Carrfour and The Pride Center will share net proceeds for the next 65 years. “We wanted to make sure there was annual income that the center would benefit from for a very long time.” On the Equality Park campus, The Residences will be built along Dixie Highway. Eventually, the current parking lot will be replaced with housing and within that, structured parking, Boo said. Plus, the setup will put future residents closer to the surrounding amenities, like grocery shopping, doctors’ offices, and other convenient services. The more benefits that seniors have access to, the better. “Stereotypically, that generation is not as accepting of the LGBT community, so people are staying in their apartments longer than they should,” Boo said. “So if we can provide that safe environment where seniors and allies can cohabitate and they can safely get to amenities and other sister organizations that provide supportive programs, it’s a great opportunity!” Carrfour will serve as the project’s
developer, operator, and service coordinator. For The Pride Center’s part, they’ll be able to provide residents with supportive services, like healthcare navigation and coordination, senior support groups, counseling and recreational activities. The Center’s Senior Services Coordinator Bruce Williams said that during the weekly Coffee and Conversation gatherings, many LGBT seniors are already looking to move in. “Everyone’s asking, ‘can I get on the list?’ The list isn’t even out yet! They’re ready to move in!” he laughed. “It’s so wonderful, LGBT seniors and seniors in general will have a central area that’s within walking distance of a drug store and a grocery store. That’s a big thing that everyone across the nation is finally catching on to.” Williams said it’s not just about affordable housing options, but it gives seniors so much more in terms of overall well-being. “They’ll have socialization and interactions with different generations and all walks of life,” he said. “It’ll help LGBT seniors to remain engaged and contribute to our wonderful society.” Aside from The Residences at Equality Park, other developments in phase 1 include a new multi-use center, a new outdoor pavilion and a new boathouse café and picnic area, along with new parking structures.

List of LGBT-Friendly Campuses Released Florida Colleges Snubbed
Brittany Ferrendi
B
ack to school means it’s time for high school seniors to start thinking about prospective college campuses — LGBT students especially need to factor in safe universities. Now the decision is even easier with the list of top 30 LGBT-friendly campuses released by Campus Pride. Campus Pride Executive Director Shane Windmeyer, in a statement, explained the importance of LGBT safety this year especially. The list has over 235 colleges and universities with individual profiles based on their LGBTfriendly policies, programs and services. “Prospective students and their families today expect colleges to be LGBTQ-friendly. They want to know what LGBTQ programs, services and resources are available on the campus — and which are the ‘Best of the Best,” he said. The eighth-annual list looks at universities based on their ratings on the Campus Pride Index. Windmeyer added: “Now more than ever, there are colleges that are recruiting LGBTQ youth — and they are investing in a campus that is fully supportive of LGBTQ students. This Top 30 list showcases those ‘Top’ campuses leading the way.” No Florida universities made the top 30 list. Only six Florida schools are even included in the LGBTQ-Friendly Campus Search. The list excludes Florida Atlantic University, Florida International University, University of Florida and others.
In order of highest to lowest ratings, the Florida colleges and universities are: University of Central Florida, University of North Florida, Stetson University, University of Miami, New College of Florida and Seminole State College of Florida. “The Campus Pride Index is a vital tool for assisting campuses in learning ways to improve their LGBTQ campus life and ultimately shape the educational experience to be more inclusive, welcoming and respectful of LGBTQ and ally people,” the website reads. “Campus Pride commends the campuses participating in the index and their willingness to come out, be visible and actively advocate for improving higher education for LGBTQ people.”

Shame List Outs Anti-LGBT Colleges & Universities John McDonald
S
ince last summer’s Obergefell vs. Hodges Supreme Court decision, the U.S. Department of Education has received several requests for exemptions from Title IX regulations. Title IX is a portion of America’s education code that establishes “no person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving federal financial assistance.” Many of the exemption requests come from small Christian schools in the South. For example, Carson-Newman University of Tennessee has an issue with same-sex marriage. “Marriage is the uniting of one man and one woman in covenant commitment for a lifetime. It is God’s unique gift to reveal the union between Christ and His church and to provide for the man and the woman in marriage the framework for intimate companionship, the channel of sexual expression according to biblical standards, and the means of procreation of human race,” writes J. Randall O’Brien, President of Carson-Newman University, in a letter to the Department of Education’s Civil Rights Division dated May 1, 2015.
Other schools have a problem with transgender people. Writes John Jackson, President of William Jessup University of California, “Some individuals may struggle with their gender identity and wish to explore living as a particular gender other than that with which they were biologically created. While we support any individual in their struggle with sexual identity, we do not affirm any decision to identify as a gender other than their biological one, including but not limited to a decision to pursue a medical course of action to physically change one’s biological gender.” To raise awareness of the colleges and universities who are not LGBT accepting, Campus Pride, a leading national LGBT educational organization, has put together what they call a “Shame List.” “Ultimately, these campuses are dangerous for vulnerable LGBTQ youth and others,” said Shane Windmeyer, in a news release. “All families and youth deserve to know this information – and so do corporations who do business with these campuses – from those who hire and recruit, vendors who contract food service, sell books, make donations and in any other way provides goods and services to a college or university.”
The Shame List was first published online in December of 2015. The updated list can be found online at CampusPride.org/ShameList

Transgender North Carolinians Get Restroom-Access Win (AP) A federal judge ruled Friday that two students and an employee must be allowed to use restrooms matching their gender identity at University of North Carolina campuses, and he said they have a strong chance of proving the state’s bathroom-access measure violates federal law, a judicial rebuke that transgender rights advocates hailed as a victory. U.S. District Judge Thomas Schroeder temporarily blocked the University of North Carolina from making the three plaintiffs follow the restroom provision of the so-called HB2 law as the larger case makes its way to trial in November. His final decision on the law won’t come until after trial. Passed in March, HB2 requires transgender people to use restrooms in schools and many public buildings that correspond to the sex on their birth certificates, rather than their gender identity. It also excludes gender identity and sexual orientation from statewide antidiscrimination protections. The state’s Republican leaders argue the law is needed to protect privacy and safety by keeping men out of women’s restrooms.

ity Supports LGBT Newspaper After Explosion Destroys Box
(AP) Rainbow flags are being flown in one New England city to support an LGBT publication after one of its newspaper boxes was destroyed in a possible hate crime. City and community leaders plan to unveil a new box for The Rainbow Times on Sunday after the explosion in Salem, Massachusetts. The Rainbow Times calls itself New England’s largest lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender newspaper. Investigators say surveillance footage shows about seven people approach the box Tuesday and place explosives inside it. The State Fire Marshal is offering a $5,000 reward for information that helps solve the crime. Police are investigating it as a hate crime. The newspaper’s publisher said in a statement that other boxes were recently vandalized but that The Rainbow Times won’t be silenced by ignorance or hatred. Photo: The Rainbow Times.

Transgender residents challenging the law say that restroom safety is protected by existing laws, while the North Carolina measure is harmful and discriminatory. In Friday’s ruling, Schroeder wrote that the challengers “are likely to succeed” in their arguments that HB2 violates Title IX, a federal law prohibiting gender discrimination in educational institutions. However, he said plaintiffs haven’t shown they are likely to succeed on a claim that the law violates their constitutional equal protection rights, and he reserved judgment on another constitutional claim related to due process. Rebuffing arguments by the law’s defenders, Schroeder also noted that existing laws already protect people’s privacy in restrooms. The plaintiffs challenging the law include a student at UNC’s Greensboro campus, an employee at its Chapel Hill campus and a high school student at the state School of the Arts, which is also run by the university system.

ustice Department Considering Response to Texas Judge’s Order Blocking LGBT Directive
(AP) The Justice Department is considering its options, now that a federal judge in Texas has blocked an Obama administration order concerning transgender students in public schools. The administration had said schools have to let those students use locker rooms and bathrooms consistent with their chosen gender identity. But a judge has put that order on hold -- saying that a federal education law makes it clear that gender is defined by “biological and anatomical differences” at birth. Judge Reed O’Connor said his order, which applies nationwide, was not about the policy issues of transgender rights but his conclusion that federal officials simply did not follow the rules. According to O’Connor, the case “presents the difficult issue of balancing the protection of students’ rights and that of personal privacy ... while ensuring that no student is unnecessarily marginalized while attending school.” The ruling comes as most public schools in Texas begin the new school year today. Texas and 12 other states had challenged the directive as unconstitutional. An attorney for a gay rights group says the ruling is a continuation of attacks on transgender people. Paul Castillo says it’s “a hard day for transgender students.”

(AP) The Juneau, Alaska has passed an ordinance that makes it illegal to discriminate on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identity. The Juneau Empire reports that on Monday the assembly voted 8-1 to pass the city’s first anti-discrimination ordinance, which will protect residents from discrimination when seeking housing or employment. Federal and state law prohibit discrimination on the base of race, age, religion and other factors but do not include protections for gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender people. Before the vote public comment was overwhelmingly in support of the measure, though a few people said the ordinance was imposing minority values on the majority. One Assembly member, Jerry Nankervis, voted against the measure. He said he didn’t disagree with the sentiment, but the implementation. He said he had some issues with small parts of the ordinance.

illions Raised for Pulse Victims Not Enough to Cover Expenses
(AP) The OneOrlando Fund has raised $23 million and counting for Pulse nightclub shooting victims, but experts say the donations won’t be enough to completely offset medical and other expenses incurred from the mass shooting. The Orlando Sentinel (http://bit. ly/2bPoo41 ) reports that as generous as the donations have been to aid victims of the June shooting that left 49 dead, it won’t be enough to cover all of their medical bills, long-term care and lost wages. In addition to worrying about their recovery, victims are now concerned by mounting medical bills and normal routine living expenses because many are still in treatment and have not yet been able to return to work. “There are people who are not able to work, who are in wheelchairs or using walkers, and what they’re going to need financially is something that is always on their mind right now,” Terry DeCarlo, executive director of The Center - the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community center of Central Florida, told the Sentinel. “Every person has to think if I’m out of work, if I’m not getting a paycheck, what am I going to do?”

Ted Miller, a researcher on the cost of gun violence, said the loss of future earnings for the survivors, including those now disabled, could easily reach $20 million. He also estimates another $16 million for costs associated with quality of life for the survivors. Officials of the OneOrlando Fund are still trying to figure out how to breakdown distribution of the $23 million between the families of the deceased and the survivors. Even then the money will not be distributed until sometime next month.

ustralia Plan for Vote on Gay Marriage Hits Stumbling Block
(AP) The government’s plan to hold a popular vote on whether Australia should allow same-sex marriage suffered a setback Monday when a political party announced it would not support the proposed plebiscite. The Nick Xenophon Team, which supports marriage equality, said its three senators would not support legislation to authorize the plebiscite, which would effectively become a 160 million Australian dollar ($120 million) opinion poll without legal weight. Even if most Australians voted for samesex marriage, conservative government lawmakers could still block the reform in Parliament, the party said. Another party that favors gay marriage, the Greens, announced last week that it was also against holding the plebiscite. That leaves the opposition center-left Labor Party as the government’s only hope of getting the Senate to back holding a popular vote on same-sex marriage. up his attacks on the plebiscite plan. But Labor is waiting to see the proposed legislation for the vote before announcing whether its senators would back it. “The quickest path to resolving this issue would be a vote in the Parliament, and that’s what we will be seeking to do in the coming days and weeks,” Shorten said Monday. The Nick Xenophon Team and Greens agree with Labor that Parliament should decide without waiting for a non-binding popular vote. “We should never put questions of human rights to an opinion poll,” Greens leader Richard Di Natale said Friday. Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull agreed to hold the plebiscite in a deal with gay marriage opponents within his party. In return, those opponents backed Turnbull in an internal leadership ballot that toppled Prime Minister Tony Abbott a year ago. Turnbull, a gay marriage advocate, had previously spoken out against such a public vote that could create painful divisions in Australian society.

ea Arthur Shelter for LGBT Homeless Youth in NYC to Open in Early 2017
(EDGE) In early 2017, homeless LGBT youth in New York City will be thanking late “Golden Girls” star Bea Arthur for being a friend when an 18-bed shelter operated by the Ali Forney Center opens in the East Village. According to DNAInfo, The Bea Arthur Residence is slated for completion in February of 2017 and is expected to be open for business shortly after completion. The project is named after the beloved actress and gay icon who died in 2009. Arthur, who had long been a friend of the Ali Forney Center, bequeathed the organization $300,000 in her will. In her later years in 2005, she performed at a benefit for the then struggling LGBT youth service group. “I’m very, very involved in charities involving youth. These kids at the Ali Forney Center are literally dumped by their families because of the fact that they are lesbian, gay or transgender -- this organization really is saving lives,” Arthur said in an article published prior to her passing.
The building, located at 222 East 13th Street is an existing structure that has been undergoing a gut-renovation since July of 2015. When completed, the site will provide beds, on-site counseling, and case management to the city’s homeless LGBT youth. The Ali Forney Center is the nation’s largest organization dedicated to homeless LGBT youth, AFC is committed to providing these at-risk people with safe, dignified, nurturing environments where their needs for housing and support can be met, and where they can begin to put their lives back together. AFC is also dedicated to promoting awareness of the plight of homeless LGBT youth in the United States with the goal of generating responses on local and national levels from government funders, foundations, and the LGBT community.

niversity of Vermont Axes North Carolina Game Over Anti-LGBT Law
(AP) The University of Vermont has canceled its women’s basketball team’s upcoming game in North Carolina over a state law that governs transgender bathroom access. The Catamounts were scheduled to face the Tar Heels on the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill campus on Dec. 28, but announced the cancellation on their athletic website Wednesday night. UNC team spokesman Mark Kimmel told The Associated Press on Thursday that the Tar Heels were working to find a replacement on the schedule. UVM athletic director Jeff Schulman said in a statement that the cancellation was a result of concerns over the law, which requires transgender people to use the restrooms in schools and many public buildings that correspond to the sex on their birth certificates, rather than their gender identity. Schulman said the law discriminates against the transgender community. “We strive very hard to create an inclusive climate for our students and staff in which they all can feel safe, respected, and valued,” he said
in statement. “It would be hard to fulfill these obligations while competing in a state with this law, which is contrary to our values as an athletic department and university.” Fellow America East team Albany had cancelled a men’s basketball game against Duke in November. The NBA has moved the 2017 All-Star Game to New Orleans instead of hosting it in Charlotte, North Carolina, as originally scheduled because of the law. The Burlington Free Press (http://bfpne. ws/2bPSPGg ) reported that UVM and UNC had agreed to the nonconference game on March 29, less than a week after the law went into effect.

After Lesbian Couple’s Home is Egged, Mass. Suburb Shows Support with Pride Flags (EDGE) A lesbian couple who live in Natick. Mass., about 10-miles west of Boston, was devastated after the Pulse gay nightclub massacre in June. To show solidarity for the LGBT community and those impacted by the Orlando attack, Lauri and Cari Ryding put up a Pride flag on their home. After going away on vacation the women, who had lived in the neighborhood for 23 years, returned home to find their flag stolen and their house had been egged. The Boston Globe reports neighbors of the couple came together to show support for the women. Children riding bikes delivered Pride flags to several houses in the area on Sunday; about 40 in total. The flags transformed the neighborhood “into a brilliantly colored declaration of pride and solidarity, displayed on picket fences, garages, doorways, and decks,” the Globe wrote.

Bisexual Man Denied Asylum after Judge Doubts Bisexuality
(SFGN) Ray Fuller will be deported to Jamaica after an immigration judge denied Fuller’s request for asylum stating that Fuller cannot be bisexual because he married a woman. Fuller told the immigration court that he had been attacked and stoned by college students, had his face slashed, and had been shot in the back and thee buttocks all due to his sexuality. Fuller said he was kicked out of his home after
one of the violent incidents outted him, NewNowNext reports. Despite Fuller’s testimony, the judge denied Fuller’s request, citing that Fuller could not be bisexual because he married a woman, and because none of Fuller’s male lovers would testify on his behalf. The case lost on appeal due to Fuller’s inability to “prove” his bisexuality in court. Fuller is expected to be deported within days.

Pride Center May Pull Out of Wicked Manors Over Security Costs City pitches in; criticized for choosing a party over trans healthcare
Michael d’Oliveira
T
he ballooning costs of providing security for Wicked Manors could force the event’s organizers to withdraw. Robert Boo, CEO of The Pride Center, said the usual cost of $9,000 has tripled to $27,000 because of the attacks in Orlando and France. “This is our new world,” he said. Mayor Gary Resnick agreed, saying that the cost of future events would be more expensive. “It’s the most dangerous kind of event because you can dress however you want [and hide weapons or explosives],” said Commissioner Tom Green. The increased in security costs would cut severely into the profits from the event, said Boo. The Pride Center made a profit of $40,300 during Wicked Manors in 2015. Boo said it all went to fund the programs and services offered by The Pride Center. To help defray the costs, The Pride Center reached out to Wilton Manors officials in the hopes of getting the city to help cover the cost of additional security. Boo said it wouldn’t make sense for his organization to take on an event of this magnitude by itself because the city benefits from the increase in visitors and exposure that stems from the event. “It’s a win-win.” Boo said other ways are being explored, including possibly a GoFundMe page. “We’ve got to get it from somewhere.” On Aug. 23, the commission approved up to $10,000 for public safety. It wasn’t all specifically earmarked for Wicked Manors but commissioners gave City Manager Leigh Ann Henderson the discretion to decide how
much of it would be used to help cover the security costs of the event. “This is not necessarily going to be a recurring policy,” said Commissioner Justin Flippen. Resnick said he wanted to use the money as leverage to get The Pride Center to look for more sponsors. Resnick also suggested that the city should look for federal and state grants to help with the cost. Commissioner Julie Carson said she wanted to give organizers an answer so they could move forward with planning the event. Business owner Doug Cureton said it was important to have the event “and not give into fear and terror.” Resident Michael Rajner criticized the commission for giving money to a festival but still not approving money for transgender healthcare. He also criticized the commission for not trying to find a solution during its budget workshops. Rajner said the city has been a leader on other LGBT issues but failed on this one. “I really would have expected the city to take a little bit of leadership. It’s a shame.” Carson has brought the issue up before this year’s budget meetings but it was not approved. Her fellow commissioners said they agreed with adding the coverage in principal but could not justify the cost. The estimated cost for providing transgender healthcare, which would include hormone replacement therapy and gender reassignment surgery, would be $32,500 per year. That would be money spent regardless of whether or not a city employee utilized the coverage.

lgbt community demonstrates unity as non profits emerge to aid orlando
Here are a few of the good ones...

n the wee hours of June 12, a gunman entered Pulse nightclub in Orlando and opened fire, killing 49 people and injuring dozens of others. The world immediately went into action, sending prayers, condolences, social media shout outs, blood donations — and cash. Equality Florida set up a GoFundMe account the very same day and so far has raised more than $7.5 million to support the victims of the shooting, as well as their families and survivors. Since then, the nonprofit has teamed up with other organizations to combine funds. With so many nonprofits (and some scams, see right page) and the city of Orlando helping, it can get confusing with where to donate. The two main fundraisers are the OneOrlando Fund and the Pulse of Orlando Fund. “We made clear from the moment it launched that every penny we collected would go to the victims, the survivors, the families of those died,” said Nadine Smith, the CEO of Equality Florida. “Not one penny would cover overhead, there would be no fees from us associated with this.” In fact, GoFundMe waived its fees for the first time for various groups under the OneOrlando and Pulse or Orlando umbrellas, said Terry DeCarlo, the executive director of The GLBT Center of Central Florida (The Center). He previously worked at Broward House for eight years. “To say ‘amazing’ is still just putting it lightly,” DeCarlo said of the donations. “We’re still getting condolence books and banners and stuff daily from people. It’s very overwhelming and it warms our heart to know that people are still two-and-a-half months later still reeling from this and it’s not been forgotten about and it’s still fresh in everybody’s mind. That’s our worst fear is that people will forget and move on from what happened here in Orlando.” Smith also emphasized that anyone who was at the nightclub that night, injured or not, is deserving of help. “There were people who weren’t hit by bullets who are dealing with trauma, who don’t know that they should be applying for some portion of these funds,” she said. “There are people who are convinced they were the lucky ones and therefore they shouldn’t … we really want to make sure that they step forward and register.”
Here is a list of the fundraising efforts for the victims of the Orlando shooting: OneOrlando Fund The largest of all the fundraisers, the initiative is a collection of efforts among Equality Florida, GLBT Community Center of Central Florida, the city of Orlando, and others. The OneOrlando Fund is being managed by the National Center for Victims of Crime and a member of its expert panel, Ken Feinberg, who has been an administrator for fundraising efforts such as the BP oil spill and the Boston Marathon. The group ensures that the money is all handled properly and transparently. In the interest of transparency, Equality Florida also updates a page to update donors on where the money is going. The deadline for disbursements is Sept. 25, so anyone who has been putting off making a donation is encouraged to do it before that date. The money cannot be released immediately because everyone filing a claim must be vetted to ensure that no scammers are taking advantage of people’s generosity, as well as divvying up the money properly. So far, $23 million has been raised. Payments are expected to be distributed to survivors and victims’ families on Oct. 1. Donate or file a claim: OneOrlando.org Mail a check to: OneOrlando PO Box 4990 Orlando, FL 32802-4990
Pulse of Orlando Because funds are not being released to the victims and their families until October, Pulse Orlando was created to help in the interim. The fund was founded by Aly N. Benitez, an attorney at Benitez Law Group and a friend of the owner of the Pulse nightclub. She is joined by four other board members, who are all volunteers in the effort. The center is also selling “Love Wins” t-shirts and tote bags — 49 faces to represent the 49 killed that create the shape of a heart. The money raised goes to the Pulse of Orlando. Visit Ripitee.com to purchase. The fund has raised more than $175,000 and $90,000 has been given to victims who are vetted through an application process to ensue donations are going to the right people. According to a press release, the organization needs $300,000 to meet the needs of victims until the major release of funds in October. Donate or Apply for Aid: PulseOfOrlando.org

Also, as a loan program, the group is able to continue providing assistance rather than relying solely on donations from the public. Donate: Latino-Leadership.org/OnePulse

charity or charlatans? scams loom over orlando shootings
... and here are the bad
(AP) The more than 430 fundraisers posted on the GoFundMe website after the mass shooting at a gay nightclub in Orlando have exposed weaknesses inherent in these popular do-ityourself charity campaigns: waste, questionable intentions and little oversight. The fundraisers - an average of more than four for each of the 49 killed and 53 wounded - include travelers asking for cash, a practitioner of ancient healing, a personal safety instructor who sells quick loaders for assault rifles, and even convicted identity impostors. “There was a deluge,” said Holly Salmons, president of the Better Business Bureau for Central Florida. “It was almost impossible for us or anyone else to be able to vet.” The crowdfunding sites operate outside traditional charitable circles and often beyond the reach of government regulation. Appeals can be created in minutes by almost anyone and shared around the world. The officially sanctioned Equality Florida campaign raised more than $7 million via GoFundMe, but another $1.3 million went to smaller appeals - mostly set up by people with little or no charity experience. The Associated Press examined 30 campaigns chosen from throughout the lengthy list produced by a GoFundMe search for “Orlando shootings.” Within a month of the June 12 shootings, they had raised more than $265,000. Half said donations would be used for legitimate-sounding purposes: to cover funeral, medical and other costs. Some campaign organizers were relatives of the dead or wounded. A high school basketball coach raised $15,297 for the family of Akyra Murray, a star player who had just graduated before dying in the attack. But most campaigns lacked key details, such as exactly what the donations would cover or even who was asking for them. Only nine of the 30 organizers agreed to interviews. One man wanted money for travel costs to Orlando to shoot independent news video. He hadn’t raised anything two months later. Another organizer raised just $25 for travel money to hold a community healing ceremony inspired by ancient shamanic rituals. She dropped that plan in favor of sending painted rocks with an inspiring word of support. Jackson Yauck of Victoria, British Columbia, put up a lighthearted appeal to let the highest donor burn a pair of skimpy gold-colored shorts he wore to gay-pride events. He had created the appeal on Jan. 1 on behalf of other charities and when he tried to switch it to benefit the Orlando victims, GoFundMe froze his account for at least a week, he said. He agreed to transfer the donations to Equality Florida, and GoFundMe let the appeal go forward. Yauck said he knew all but one of his 11 donors personally and didn’t feel a need to tell them of the switch. “It was just for fun. If you look at the bigger picture, we raised $600 off a pair of underwear,” he said. Several businesses asked for contributions. One appeal raised $1,375 from 14 donors within two months to keep open a hair salon run by partners killed in the attack. A counseling center raised $150 to subsidize services to victims but closed its campaign when it found grant money elsewhere. GoFundMe helps make refunds when contributions go unused. Weapons-accessory dealer Craig Berberich, of Bradenton,

Florida, proposed holding public classes on personal safety. He posted a link to his business at the bottom of his appeal. He said he “wasn’t trying to promote my business.” Then he added: “I hope we didn’t give the impression that we were a charity.” He said he was shutting down his appeal. It remained online over a month later - but with only $100 in donations. Among his store products: a high-speed loader for assault weapons. Efe Atalay, of Clermond, Florida, raised $1,145 from 81 donors to buy security wands for nightclub entrances, but didn’t say which clubs and campaign that raised more than $23 million, including the $7 spoke vaguely of lobbying politicians to require such security million from Equality Florida’s GoFundMe campaign. The donations to the central fund are generally taxmeasures. He didn’t respond to emails sent to his GoFundMe deductible, since they go to registered charities. Donations to address. Florida charities law generally requires no filings by a crowdfunding site are typically not tax-deductible, unless the organizer is a tax-exempt charity. crowdfunding campaigns meant for particular victims or their The bigger charities - unlike many crowdfunding campaigns families or in support of other established charities. In other transgender litigation • Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has filed yet another lawsuit against a pro-LGBT policy of the Obama administration. On August 23, he filed a complaint with the U.S. District Court for Northern Texas, challenging a new Health and Human Services regulation that interprets the word “sex” to include gender identity. On August 21, in another Paxton-led lawsuit, a federal judge granted a temporary order blocking the Obama administration from taking any action against states that refuse to comply with its guidelines concerning treatment of transgender students in federally funded schools. • On August 16, U.S. Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts rejected a request by lawyers for a school district in Virginia to extend the deadline for their petition of appeal. In that case, Gloucester v. Grimm, the school district seeks to overturn a federal appeals court decision that said the Title IX prohibition of discrimination “on the basis of sex” in schools includes discrimination based on the gender with which a student identifies. In the petition it filed Monday, August 29, the Gloucester School Board said the high court should hear the case to resolve “the current nationwide controversy” over transgender access to bathrooms. • On August 15, a federal magistrate judge in Chicago heard arguments on preliminary issues in a lawsuit by parents and students at a Cook County high school who want to block a transgender female student from using the girls’ locker room and girls’ restrooms. The case, Students and Parents for Privacy v. U.S. Department of Education, is awaiting a trial before a federal judge for the Northern District of Illinois. The magistrate will recommend to that judge whether to grant a preliminary injunction to stop the transgender student’s access until after the trial.

Melt Down
Beach Bear’s Craig Jungwirth threatens Pulse-like retaliation against enemies

C
raig Jungwirth, the now infamous organizer of Beach Beach Weekend appeared to have a meltdown this past week repeatedly calling one man a “nigger” and threatening to launch a Pulse-like attack over Labor Day Weekend. “My events are selling out cause you faggots are total patsies. None of you deserve to live,” a man wrote on Facebook with the profile name Craig Jungwirth. “If you losers thought the Pulse nightclub shooting was bad, wait till you see what I’m planning for Labor Day.” Multiple people shared a screenshot of that message to SFGN, however, it could not be independently verified. And even though Craig Jungwirth’s name is attached to this message SFGN could not verify whether it came from Jungwirth since he is known to create multiple fake profiles to promote his Beach Bear Weekend. Meanwhile another Craig Jungwirth profile launched a racist attack against Gary Thomas of Philadelphia. “And no cares about you, Gary. You really do need some new material, nigger,” he wrote. “I’m not wasting any more white man time with a nigger.” Thomas told SFGN he has never met Jungwirth. But this past weekend he accepted a friend request from Jungwirth on Facebook before remembering, who he was. Jungwirth started spamming his page with messages promoting BeachBear Weekend. “It’s a scam run by him,” Thomas said. “He’s been creating multiple fake profiles to promote this.” Thomas said Jungwirth’s verbal assaults do not phase him.

“I’ve gone through a lot worse in high school. I’ve been called the n-word growing up,” he said. “I feel sad that people go to such a low point and insult them based on their race. It bothers me. Obviously the guy has mental problems and needs help.” Here’s a sample of one such message he’s using to promote his event. “Free pass for you to BeachBearWeekend. com and FortLauderdaleBearWeek.com! But Jeff B. Black is trespassed because he defaulted on his mortgage and he’s vectoring HIV.” SFGN first reported on Craig Jungwirth in January when it revealed Jungwirth’s past legal troubles. From the initial SFGN report: “…the new director had a permanent injunction and restraining order entered against him by a former employer, for conduct alleged to have been ‘threatening, erratic and violent,’ according to court filings. Additionally, Jungwirth, who was once arrested for stalking, is presently facing misdemeanor charges in Broward County Court for defrauding an innkeeper.. The stalking charge has since been dropped. However…SFGN learned that separate from that incident, circuit courts from three different states \ have entered restraining orders against Jungwirth for threatening behavior. They include representations that Jungwirth would ‘bankrupt’ his ex-employers, and they would soon be facing ‘heart attacks.’ Additionally, at least four former colleagues from his job in Massachusetts have filed individual petitions for restraining orders against Jungwirth, expressing fear for their personal safety.” In March SFGN reported that it appeared Jungwirth was running a fraudulent Internet campaign promoting his event. “’What Jungwirth is doing is perpetrating a fraud and theft on unsuspecting people thinking they are going to come to Fort Lauderdale for a great weekend…but the truth is he is tainting our community, acting alone, not part of an organization, and doing it with bullying and threats,’” local resident Jeff Black said last week, in an email.”
That’s the same Jeff Black that Jungwirth is now disparaging in his current promotions. Black has met with local authorities and he said he was told on Tuesday that threats from Jungwirth are now being forwarded to the FBI. SFGN also previously reported on Jungwirth using fake profile to harass people in the community. Despite the multiple allegations of fraud the Beach Bear Weekend website is still up and running. Black said beware of clicking on any links going to the website. “There is no Beach Bear Weekend, or weeks or events,” he said. “I’m warning people to not follow these links.” Black believes the website will attempt to hack into your computer. “It’s not something to be trifled with.” Jungwirth’s Facebook profile can no longer be found and he could not be reached for comment as of press time. Jungwirth’s actions have not only been threatening personally, however. They have also included spurious lawsuits against numerous local nightclubs filed in Orlando. They are demanding compensation for
purportedly sponsoring the Beach Bear Weekend. One such claim against Hunter’s has already been dismissed by an Orange County jurist. SFGN Publisher Norm Kent’s law office handled the phony claim. “He even bounced the check to the Orlando court,” Kent stated. Other club owners, such as Nick Berry of the Courtyard, have filed criminal complaints against Jungwirth for petty theft, doing a ‘dine and dash’ from the Courtyard Cafe. He ordered food and did not pay for it, was arrested, pled no contest, and failed to make restitution. “He is a loose and dangerous cannon,” commented Bob Young, who sold the Beach Bear name to Jungwirth, and is now suing for rescission to get the name back. “He never paid for it,” Young stated, “and even bounced the check to the state to put the corporation in his name.” Meanwhile, Black is pursuing a restraining order against Jungwirth in Circuit Court, but the case was not heard initially because Jungwirth was not served. It seems the twice evicted Jungwirth wound up giving a selfstorage warehouse as his home address. A hearing is set for September 30.

Convictions Harvey Milk’s Legacy Sails to New Horizons
Publisher's Editorial
“My name is Harvey Milk, and I am here to recruit you.”
- Harvey’s most famous words
Norm Kent

t was November of 1978 when the first openly gay office holder in California, Harvey Milk, was slain by a disgruntled colleague on the San Francisco Board of Supervisors. In 2009, a chronicle of his life and death came to the big screen, a mainstream studio film starring a renowned actor, Sean Penn. Rapidly winning critical acclaim, the historically accurate film was riveting and compelling. It still is, and every person defining themselves as members of our community should see it. The film was playing on HBO last week while I was in San Francisco to attend a ceremony naming a United States Navy Ship after the late Mr. Milk. Harvey Milk opened the doors yesterday that invite gay men throughout our community today to run and serve openly on city commissions, in the judiciary, or even in law enforcement. America has appropriately honored Harvey Milk. SFGN featured a city street named after him in, of all places, Salt Lake City, last month. New York City has a high school named after him, and San Francisco, a park. But Milk’s legacy is global. In the past four weeks, the Lithuanian LGBT community center has been named after Harvey Milk. to send them a letter congratulating them, you can mail it with an American postage stamp bearing Harvey’s image. The significance of a U.S. Navy ship bearing the name of Harvey Milk can’t be overstated. In 1994 Thompson published “Gay Soul: Finding the Heart of Gay Spirit and Nature” (Harper), for which he interviewed and photographed sixteen gay writers, healers, teachers and visionaries (including Malcolm Boyd). In 1997 Thompson finished his Gay Spirit/ Gay Soul Trilogy with the autobiographical “Gay Body: A Journey Through Shadow to Self” (St. Martin’s Press). Thompson’s last anthology was 2011’s “The Fire In Moonlight: Stories from the Radical Faeries” (White Crane Books/Lethe Press) where, as in “Leatherfolk,” he studied and honored a gay subculture that exists outside the norm. Though Thompson happily married Boyd when it became legal in California (2013), he opposed LGBT assimilation and conformity: “Going for the promised land of full equality under the law is all fine and well,” Thompson said in an interview that appears in MarkThompsonGaySpirit.com. “But what is going to happen when the last sodomy law is
toppled and homophobia no longer tolerated? Will we then be free? Free to be what?” “I believe there is something intrinsically queer about being gay, no matter how much we try to normalize it,” Thompson continued. “It is that queerness - and what is at the root of it - that presents the big mystery question in our lives. It’s not something we can just check off a list and say, OK we’re all safely out of the closet and now we are done with it. We simply can’t stop being curious about the myths and mysteries of same-sex attraction and love.” A long-time AIDS survivor, Thompson worked as a clinical psychologist with LGBT youth and people living with HIV and AIDS. In 2007, the Lambda Literary Foundation gave Thompson one of its Pioneer Awards and in 2009 the City of West Hollywood honored Thompson and Boyd with the Rainbow Key Award “for their outstanding contributions to the gay and lesbian community.” Though Thompson will no doubt get some posthumous kudos, his biggest monument is the series of books that he wrote or edited, books that continue to give us food for thought about the meaning of being gay.

Trump Fans Told My Mom to Go Fuck Herself
On August 20th, Donald Trump visited Fredericksburg, Virginia. My mother and sister were verbally assaulted. “Go fuck yourselves!” men screamed at them as they stood outside peacefully with an anti-racism sign. Obscene gestures and shouts of “Idiots!” and “Go home!” from car windows. The latter was possibly a racist attack on my Latina sister. “Build that wall!” most certainly was. Let me tell you a little about my mom. She decided while pregnant with me that she wanted to try homeschooling her kids. The public schools were struggling in our area, private school was expensive and mom wanted to do her best to help us be successful. We set up our first classroom in the downstairs playroom. Mom took her spot in front of the class to begin teaching elementary English and math. She only had a high-school education at the time. Mom accepted help from other parents and teachers in a cooperative environment to ensure we got the best education. Dad, who earned his college degree when I was seven, administered standardized testing. Our house became a local homeschooling hot-spot for parents who needed help and wanted to make sure their children’s test scores were properly reported to the state so they could get into good colleges. Today, my sister and I are both college graduates from strong universities. My mother is in college now. She’s earned her paraprofessional counseling certificate and volunteers to help teenagers learn support strategies to assist their at-risk friends. Did I mention that she’s also the full-time caretaker for my grandma, a Costa Rican immigrant whose biological family is almost exclusively in her home country? This is the woman Donald’s supporters were flipping off and calling names. I wish I could say I’m surprised by the way my family was treated, but I’m not at all. Donald divides and demonizes categories of Americans while suggesting economic policies that will disadvantage the same hard-working people he’s trying to energize. Honesty, hospitality and family values mean absolutely nothing to him. I’d know. I now live in New York City, where his reputation for sociopathic behavior is the worst-kept secret in town.

The women in my family were attacked because Donald preys upon the worst impulses of angry people, infusing serious discussions with a bullying racism that has nothing to do with solving any of the problems our country is facing. A persuasive enough voice for hatred can get grown men to take time out of their days to disrespect two women engaged in the politest possible form of advocacy: holding a sign with smiles on their faces, ready to talk with anyone interested in learning more about their views. What this hostile subset of Americans fail to realize is that Donald has absolutely no answers to improve the country. He’s a smokescreen. Even Donald’s party affiliation is a fraud. He’s no more a Republican than he was a Democrat or a good businessperson. He claims to be absolutely anything necessary to increase his profile for more media attention to feed his narcissism. He runs companies into the ground, because he’s really just a personal branding expert without an interest in the creation of sustainable jobs.
Thankfully, the majority of Americans roundly reject demagogues who insult both their country and intelligence. The media coverage can make us forget that he’s losing badly. If we keep working hard, we can defeat him in November with a rejection of historic proportions. People like the brave women in my family are here to let everyone know there’s a better way for our children than the darkness on sale from New York City’s most notorious con artist. When he goes low, we’ll keep going high.

homo History 101 History was never as straight as we are told. Recording our history means reporting the truth. Pier Angelo Sir Francis Bacon (1561-1626) – English philosopher of science, author of Novum Organum; called “the high priest of modern science” for elucidating principles of the scientific method. Originator of the phrase “knowledge is power.” Was also a noted lawyer and a member of Parliament. S. Josephine Baker (1873-1945) – Physician who organized the first child hygiene department under government control in New York City. Her tenure led to the lowest infant death rate in any American or European city during the 1910’s. She was instrumental in identifying “Typhoid Mary.” Baker was a consultant to many child care organizations, and the president of several child health professional societies. Neil Devine (1939-1994) – American Astrophysicist, major contributor to modern theory of star formation and prediction of meteoroid and space debris environments. During his 25 years at Caltech’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Devine made many fundamental scientific contributions, including defining the radiation belts around Jupiter, Saturn, Neptune, and Uranus, and the dust environment around Halley and other cometary targets. During his tenure at JPL, he often served as a mentor and inspiration to many younger space physicists who benefited from both his scientific incisiveness and quick wit. Alexander von Humboldt (17691859) – Prussian naturalist, explorer of Central and South America, author of a 23-volume work on his travels, and of the seminal Cosmos, which laid the foundations for modern physical geography and meteorology. Humboldt was a leading European figure of his day, considered second only to Napoleon in influence. A major Pacific current, numerous cities, counties, and other landmarks bear his name. Sonja Kovalevsky (1850-1891) – Russian mathematician, developed Kovalevsky’s theorem, editor of Acta Mathematica. Showing aptitude in mathematics at an early age, Kovalevsky is an
example of a brilliant woman who encountered barriers solely because of her gender. Women were not allowed to study in Russian universities, and her father considered it improper for her to study abroad. Kovalevsky went to Germany to study with Karl Weierstrass. For her 1888 work “On the Problem of the Rotation of a Solid Body about a Fixed Point,” she was awarded the famous Prix Bordin of the French Academy of Sciences.
Louise Pearce (1885-1959) – Pathologist at the Rockefeller Institute who helped develop a treatment for African sleeping sickness. She, along with fellow pathologist Wade Hampton Brown, and two chemists, developed tryparsamide. The Rockefeller Institute sent Pearce to the Belgium Congo in 1920 “trusting her vigorous personality to carry out an assignment none too easy for a woman physician and not without its dangers.” For her service, Pearce received the order of the Crown of Belgium, and in 1953, the Royal Order of the Lion. Pearce also studied syphilis, for which tryparsamide was standard treatment until penicillin replaced it. With Brown, she discovered and developed the Brown-Pearce tumor, systematically studied syphilis in rabbits, explored how a virus might spread cancer, and researched immune reactions to rabbit pox. Leonardo da Vinci (1452-1519) – Italian artist, scientist, and engineer, researcher of human anatomy, mathematics, and the potential for human flight He conceived of helicopters, tanks, machine guns, submarines, and solar power. Clyde Wahrhaftig
(1919-1994) – American Geologist and Environmentalist, author of Streetcar to Subduction (a geological tour of San Francisco via bus and streetcar), and recipient of the Geological Society of America’s Kirk Bryan Award for Geomorphology. Wahrhaftig was a versatile geologist who made notable contributions to understanding the coal deposits, geology and glaciers of Alaska and the landforms, surficial deposits and bedrock geology of the Sierra Nevada and the California Coast Ranges.

Magically Delicious?

Is Maguire’s a lucky charm or an Irish curse?
Maguire’s Hill 16 535 N Andrews Ave. Fort Lauderdale 954-764-4453 MaguiresHill16.com
I
grew up in a northern city where there’s an Irish pub in just about every neighborhood, so whether you had Irish heritage or not, you grew up with the cuisine of the Emerald Isle. I didn’t realize how much I missed that until I stopped in Maguire’s before the theater with a group of friends. Maguire’s is everything I remember; sassy waitresses (nothing as trendy as servers for these gals), good comfort food and décor that looks like it’s straight out of the 1980s. Before you think that sassy waitress comment means, fun sassy, like on a television show, let me stop you right there. The woman handling our table started out on the wrong foot by making a big deal about how inconvenient it was going to be to do separate checks. She stated, “That’s going to be a problem.” I looked her square in the eye and said, “I don’t see why.” (that’s practically expected in SoFlo). After that, she warmed up to us. By the time the meal was well underway, the servers couldn’t have been more attentive or personable. Maybe she finally realized that she had a group of gay men (we tend to be

better tippers). Serving us also seemed to be a group effort, as many different waitresses brought our dishes to the table. That allowed us to all be served at somewhat the same time, however, it also led to a lot of “auctioning off’ of plates; as in “Who had the chicken curry?” Many of us started our meal with a cup of soup. The options on the night of our visit was the regular offering of Irish potato soup, a thick, creamy base (any thicker and it would have been mashed potatoes) topped with grated cheddar, bacon and chopped scallions. The daily special, pea soup featured a few chopped vegetables and ham, but was a little lacking in flavor. Both soups ($3.50 cup) could have been a tad warmer. Someone tell those folks they’ve got to stir up the soup in the warmers and ladle from the bottom. Entrees were hearty and filling, even if some were more successful than others. The lamb stew was delicious and tender with plenty of lamb as well as potatoes, onions and carrots. The gravy of the stew was also rich and flavorful. But, as one of my dining partners noted; “The dish already had potatoes; it didn’t need additional mashed
potatoes on top.” As far as I’m concerned you can never have too many potatoes. But, that’s why he’s a skinny bitch and I’m not. Chicken curry featured a generous portion of tender chicken breast in a fragrant curry sauce, served over a bed of rice with a side of chutney. The portion was very large considering the $12.95 tab, but it proved to be a little too salty. I got luckier with Tara’s chicken pot pie. I don’t know who Tara is, but she makes a perfect chicken pot pie filling; creamy white sauce, tender veggies and moist pieces of chicken breast. I would have preferred a real crust on the top, instead of the two triangles of (prepackaged, I’m sure) puff pastry. But then again, for $13.95, it was quite a bargain. We expected the Irish Dip sandwich to be a variation on the French version, but it was actually a run of the mill French dip; served with fries and cole slaw. There’s always one at every table that goes to an ethnic place and orders something that’s not a specialty of that cuisine. In this one, it was the Irish guy in the group. He opted for the Maguire’s Salad; basically, your standard chef’s salad; ham, turkey, cheddar and Swiss cheese on a bed of mixed greens, with hard-boiled egg, cucumber, tomatoes and Bermuda onion. Wine and beers are reasonably priced. The Bailey’s chocolate pie had precious little Bailey’s flavor. The crust fell away from it too readily, so the freezer’s damage had been done. Cheesecake, is supposedly homemade, and is available with chocolate or caramel sauce (both out of a jar, no doubt). Maguire’s offers some comforting stickto-the-ribs fare, but it’s not enough to make you hop up and do a jig.

LGBT-Diverse Netflix Show ‘Sense8’ Has Season 2 Release Date Brittany Ferrendi
A
Netflix original that stars a trans pansexual woman, a closeted gay man and more is finally returning for its second season. “Sense8,” is an American science fiction drama about eight strangers from around the world brought together through a mental and emotional connection that allows them to communicate and share their knowledge and skills telepathically. It is estimated to premiere in December 2016, according to GamenGuide. Among the eight individuals, known as sensates, is Nomi Marks. Played by Jamie Clayton, Nomi is a social justice hacktivist and trans woman living in San Francisco with her girlfriend, Amanita. Fans seem to love Nomi and her girlfriend. “Sense8 is actually the greatest show on Netflix and Nomi and Amanita are fucking goals,” wrote user @jskladd on Twitter. Lana Wachowski, co-creator and writer, used her own experiences as a trans woman to create Nomi. “It has some very intense, autobiographical scenes, and that was very difficult and surreal,” she told Chicago Magazine. One of Clayton’s biggest reasons for playing Nomi was to work with Wachowski as a trans character. “There’s more opportunity that’s being presented, especially really recently, for trans characters on television, but I thought, ‘Shit, when am I going to get to play one that’s actually written by someone who’s trans,’” she told Collider in an interview. Wachowski did not return to write for season two after undergoing her gender transition and wanted to take time off, cocreator, writer and executive producer J. Michael Straczynski told Awards Daily in an interview.

Returning with Nomi is Lito Rodriguez (played by Miguel Ángel Silvestre), a famous actor in Mexico City who is also in the closet with his boyfriend, Hernando. Lito and Nomi share a moment of connection during the initial season, discussing their struggles of self-discovery and coming out of the closet. “Nomi & Lito sharing their stories of growing up gay/trans is making me cry (sweat emoji),” wrote user @emilycpower on Twitter. The cast of Sense8 made a statement back in May during the Sao Paulo Pride in Brazil. Their message? Spread pride and love. Throughout the event — which had over an estimated 2 million people in attendance — the cast was caught on camera celebrating pride and locking lips. According to NewNowNext, actors Max Riemelt (who plays main character Wolfgang Bogdanow), Silvestre, Clayton and Brian J. Smith (Will Gorski) were seen all making out together on a float. The biggest reason to watch the show is diversity, according to Clayton. “I can’t think of any show, or anything, that touches the amount of diversity that we have,” she told Collider. “It’s nine cities in eight countries. There’s ethnic diversity, gender diversity, sexual diversity, and everything. … Everybody just is, and we’re all human. And then, we show up to help one another, and we don’t even have to ask. There are no questions asked. We just help.” Season two was renewed in August of last year and is set to premiere with a Christmas special later this year. The full season is scheduled to air in 2017, according to ScreenCrush and confirmed by Clayton on Twitter.

Martin Bangs Hard Rock Live John McDonald
R
icky Martin, the Latino heartthrob and award-winning singer, thrilled fans Saturday evening at Hard Rock Live at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Hollywood. “He’s so out there, flamboyant and fabulous,” said Steve Wetzler, a Fort Lauderdale realtor. Wetzler attended a fundraiser for the Stonewall National Museum & Archives inside the casino prior to Martin’s show. In between cocktails at the L Bar, Wetzler told SFGN Martin is a true talent. “He has such great moves and great energy,” Wetzler said. One hundred invited guests attended the Stonewall fundraiser and some, like Mindy Figueroa, left with prizes. Figueroa won two tickets to Martin’s concert, which included “meet and greet” access. “I’m going to see my idol,” said Figueroa, a marketing executive. Figueroa brought her wife, Amilda, to the Stonewall fundraiser. As the owner of a Latin small business, Figueroa said she was glad to support Martin. “He represents us very well,” Figueroa said. “He has charisma, personality and as a showman he plays well with his audience.” Martin appeared in a number of different costumes during the show from suit and tie in the opening number to a sleeveless black tee shirt, revealing his pumped biceps. He sang songs in Spanish
and English and asked the crowd to “be yourself and do not judge.” Latin boy band CNCO opened the show and performed exclusively in Spanish. A native of Puerto Rico, Martin launched his career as a member of the boy band Menudo. He came out as gay in 2010, stating “I am proud to say I am a fortunate homosexual man. I am very blessed to be who I am.” At the Stonewall fundraiser, Hard Rock Vice President Susan Renneisen announced Martin had donated a pair of black leather pants to the museum’s national archives. Martin wore the pants during his 2000 “She Bangs” Tour. “We know he had a tiny butt by how they fit on this mannequin,” remarked Renneisen. Jay Silverman, a Fort Lauderdale realtor, attended the fundraiser and said Martin’s ability to continue a successful career after coming out is “a testament to how far things have come.” “His music is part of the life,” Silverman said. A near capacity crowd filled Hard Rock Live for Martin’s show which featured shirtless buff backup dancers, a vibrant horn section and several sultry solo ballads from Martin. The 44-yearold father of two delivered a romantic rendition of “Tal Vez” in addition to his chart topping and hard charging “Living La Vida Loca.”

Man Fills Lube Bottle with Acid at Sex Club Britanny Ferrendi A 62-year-old unnamed man has been charged with inserting hydrochloric acid into a lubricant dispenser at a Sydney gay and bisexual sex club on Saturday. The club, Aarows, states that it is “Sydney’s premier health, recreation & social center where safe sex is permitted regardless of gender.” According to police, the items within the clubrooms have sensor alarms due to similar tampering in the past. The alarm on the lube dispenser triggered his arrest. “Police will allege an alarm sounded and security detained the man before police from Rosehill Local Area Command attended,” according to The Sydney Morning Herald. He was charged with administering poison intending to harm, entering a building with intent to commit an indictable offense and a number of other charges.
