THE BIKINI COMPLEX
SIT KITTY SIT
Creating fiercely beautiful compositions with both punk and theatrical sensibilities San Francisco indie band, The Bikini Complex, offers up an aural banquet of pop songs with soaring vocals, memorable hooks, and unusual chord progressions.
In May of 2010, Kat Downs and Mike Thompson teamed up to experiment with the combination of classical piano and rock drumming. Typically described as “The Dresden Dolls mixed with PJ Harvey and a dash of Muse”, the music they create also reflects evidence of Zeppelin, Beethoven, Rush and Rachmaninoff. The combination of Kat Downs’ ornate hands and hair flying with Mike Thompson’s percussive mastery makes this duo the consummate definition of a “dream-team”. No holds barred, this group produces addictive rock n’ roll – with only two people and not one guitar in sight.

TREZ MASCHINE
THE LIVING
The band thrives off monstrous bass lines, technical and tight drumbeats, unconventional guitar wizardry, and a spark of energy that puts younger groups to shame. — The Bay Bridged
Most noticeable is the sprawling progressive rock atmosphere and the powerful choruses that wouldn’t be out of place in an arena. New song “Deceiver” encompasses both of those things — after a listen or two, it’s hard to avoid having the melody stuck in your head. — Decibel Magazine

FACEBOOK.COM/LORDSOFSEALAND
Rock n rollers Alvie & the Breakfast Pigs third EP, Plastic Surgery, is slated for release at the loved, but soon to be gentrified, Hemlock Tavern. It was recorded in their home city of San Francisco’s historic Hyde Street Studios, bunkered in the heart of the Tenderloin neighborhood. Appropriate, yes? Well, good. This record is seeping with snark and aggression, playfulness and annoyance, abdication and heroism. It’s the hurtsso-good breath after a pull of whiskey. It’s BDSM without a safe word.
Lords of Sealand is a San Francisco based tuneful Progressive Rock band with hooks for days and sass for miles. Their newly released debut LP, “Zs” is a literal dream-record of songs written about the band members’ dreams. The album showcases the band’s flair for storytelling and is an immersive experience underpinned by eclectic arrangements that are at turns mesmerizingly ethereal, and cathartically unrestrained.

VICE REINE
GREAT HIGHWAY
Vice reine is an sf electronic band that melds synthpop, electroclash, & sci-fi into an exciting live show that glides the line between outer space & in your face.
Formed in 2012, it wasn’t until 2014 that the signature Great Highway sound started to bloom. Jason Hunter began experimenting with electronic beats and live-looping. Eventually he brought bandmates onboard to create a sweet-yet-dark pop sensibility with soaring rock riffs. At this point the group’s sound was elevated from straightforward pop to a clean and cutting electronic sound with an edge. The sound is still progressing, at times you may hear EDM-inspired beats and heartfelt and powerful string hooks.

CALIFORNICORNS
FACEBOOK.COM/CALIFORNICORNS
Their band name has changed over the years, but you can trace the origins back to 2009 when they formed as a minimalist surf rock quartet. In 2017, with the release of their first full length album, Warm Oakland Nights, they formed a cocoon of gossamer silk, shed the skin of any previous band names, and emerged as the beautiful, winged, golden bears they yearned to be; becoming Californicorns. Progressing their sound and adding new members, they now climb the walls of sound to create a sweaty dance party filled with sentimental ballads and get-your-ass-off-the-wall jams. UNLIKELY HEROES
THE Y AXES
A psychedelic Hip-Hop/Punk band from Oakland, CA. This band has been making waves in and outside of their local scene with exciting/ introspective jams that leave concert goers physically drained and mentally well-fed. They are releasing their self titled debut EP 5/18/18 that has been long awaited for by fans and playlist curators throughout the U.S. and overseas. A San Francisco-based indie outfit who play a unique blend of dreamy, synth-glossed pop and rhythmically muscular rock. Having initially formed as a recording project by vocalist Alexi Rose Belchere and guitarist Devin Nelson, the duo decided to take on the project full time after premiering a set of songs at their space and prom-themed joint birthday party in July 2011. AGOUTI
THE HA
A psychedelic rock band that surfaced from songwriter and producer Carmen Caruso after a trip to escape her chronic fatigue and dysfunctional routine. Caruso, infatuation with 60s and 70s rock, delved into fixing up a 70s bass amp, a 4-track reel-toreel, and a vintage mixer. Finally, she began writing a new set of songs. It was during this incubation period that she found kindred spirits David Rabkin, Dakota Salazar, and Leanne Kelly. These three helped flesh out Agouti’s sound as Caruso set to work recording their first two singles.
The band was formed back in 2012 by founding members Brooks Dierker, when his friend’s band from LA was looking for an opening act in SF. Our drummer, who had just taken his first lesson, convinced a few of his drinking buddies they could pull it off and The HA was formed. They play Beach Funk Americana; music that celebrates the human condition and the gathering of friends. Music to party to.

SERF AND JAMES
The Crux is a mad scientist’s music laboratory, where songs are presented as theatrical experiments with an odd and beautiful intensity... Lullabies to drink your morning coffee to. Gospel songs for the faithless. Pirate shanties for people who get seasick. Swing music for the graceless.
They began as a duo back in 2006. From musicals, to open mics, to a full band. Their full sound has been described as a mix between Jeff Buckley, with hints of Muse and a dash of Bruno Mars. Fresh of the BottleRock 2017 stage and with a second EP on the horizon, they may one day be a household name. So far they have a stronghold on just the bathrooms, but pretty soon, the whole house.

PAMELA PARKER
LOVE JERKS
Pamela Parker blends sultry soulful vocals with powerful rock anthems. Her band has built a sound on their dynamic stage presence and commanding vocals that can drive you, make you dance, or take you on a journey. The upcoming album, The Fantastic Machine, creates a fresh rock n’roll landscape with a wide range of surprising touchstones like Aretha Franklin, Thin Lizzy, Funkadelic and Heart. ELBO ROOM 647 VALENCIA ST
Love Jerks is a San Francisco duo who make dream-pop ballads and glam-rock anthems with a flair for the cinematic. The offspring of two lead singers—Bryan Garza of Scissors for Lefty (vocals, guitar) and Rebecca Garza-Bortman of Happy Fangs and My First Earthquake (vocals, bass)— Love Jerks was born when these two jerks, yes, fell in love. They met in a rock club; got married in a rock club; and somewhere in between they discovered a mutual affection for Grimes, The Pretenders, and French pop from the 1960s.

THE WYATT ACT
Punk. Swing. Ragtime. Southern jazz. Surf. Van Goat is a band to which you could apply many labels, but none would quite prepare you for what you’re about to hear as you pop on your headphones and queue up their album.
The Wyatt Act is San Francisco’s own SlamRock band. Saying they sound like Cake, Primus, Frank Zappa, Mr. Bungle only scratches the surface. You could also say they’re influenced by Weird Al, Amy Winehouse, Tower of Power, and Rage Against The Machine. However, seeing them live is the only way to get the full picture.

GOOFERMAN
DOCTOR STRIKER
An ever-morphing micro circus of klown-fi and wanton circus performers built on an entirely unique bedrock of breakbeat, funk, drum & bass, reggaeton, rock, hip hop, and whirled beat, all parlayed to the audiences of the world by a new-fangled, superstyled breed of klown.
Doctor Striker’s lyrics, brutally simple in the punk tradition, are inspired by his upbringing in recession-battered metro Detroit and subsequent life in Oakland, California. His formal training in economics and history at the University of Michigan bring an uncommon depth and historical context. Doctor Striker exclaims: “If you fight the man, you are the man If I’m rich, no one can touch me. / If I’m rich, I am the law. / But I’m poor, I don’t care. / I am poor, I am free.”

0riginally materialized as an unsanctioned back-alley experiment in lo-brow, improvisational aural expression. Then things turned electronic; things got carbonated, pushed one too many buttons, and the gods of the Red Nose spoke: “Abandon all pretense. Gather the klowns.
