President’s Perspective This is an extra exciting and bittersweet time for the BCSC. Our annual meeting and golf tournament falls on the 26th of this month and at that time we will say good-bye to Scott Frager, our Executive Director for the past ten years. Last year was the first year we combined the golf tournament and annual meeting in the same day. It was a huge success. We had a fantastic turnout and it was great to see so many members come out and take part in their association’s event. After last year’s event, we sent out a survey to our membership asking how they liked the idea of combining our two biggest events on the same day. Overwhelmingly, the choice was to continue to have these events on the same day. We understand that our membership represents a very large geographical area and sometimes our meetings are just too far for some of our members to attend. However, since this is our biggest event now, every member should consider attending. We are offering our one free entry for every foursome offer again this year. You get 4 for the price of 3. We’re also bring back the helicopter drop and hole in one contest. The golf entry includes lunch, dinner, golf, goodies and too many prizes to mention. If you don’t have a foursome, please don’t let that stop you. Coming as a single or twosome is a great way to make new friends. Networking has always been one of the major benefits of the BCSC. I have created a number of connections which has enhanced my business immensely. If you don’t golf, please attend our dinner and annual meeting at 6 PM. The BCSC will provide one complimentary dinner for all centers in membership. You may also bring unlimited guests for only $55 per person. If you get there between 4:30 -5:00 PM, you may participate in our complimentary cocktail hour sponsored by South Point Hotel and mingle with our members and partners. We will also be providing some truly amazing entertainment. Many of you have already heard that this year’s annual meeting will mark the end of an illustrious 10year career for our executive director, Scott Frager. Scott has consistently brought his insight of the bowling business and his knowledge of sales and marketing to our membership. He has made our association the envy of all state associations. We have been very lucky to have had him lead our organization these past 10 years, but as we all know nothing lasts forever and that’s okay. Change is a good thing. I am very happy to say our new executive director is very well known in the bowling industry. Scott Poddig will take the reins shortly after our annual meeting. Scott Poddig has served on our board and has been a successful bowling operator for many years.

Scott has sold his interest in Bowlium and will be able to give his full attention to helping our association succeed. I know of no other person who is so dedicated to the sport of bowling. Scott is very involved in youth and tournament bowling and consistently brings wonderful ideas to the board which help members increase profits. Scott rarely takes a vacation that isn’t involved with bowling one way or another, whether he is bowling a tournament, helping run one or just visiting some of our members. Bowling is not just a career for him, it’s a lifestyle. Please come out for our golf tournament and annual meeting to recognize Scott Frager’s contribution to our association and welcome Scott Poddig who I’m certain will be a great executive director in the future. Tony

Executive Director’s Report

Come One, Come All!

Dear BCSC Members and Valued Partners, This will be my final column for the BCSC Newsletter. I know I will enjoy reading this column in the future, as much as I have enjoyed writing it this past decade. Approximately 120 columns, possibly missing a month or two at some point, are a lot of columns to create. However, each gave me an opportunity to connect with you. Over the years, we’ve met many times: at your centers, meetings, trade shows or events like our upcoming golf tournament and Annual Meeting on October 26th at Black Gold Golf Club in Yorba Linda. We’ve talked about the industry, discussed problems and found solutions to some of the most important issues facing our businesses: OSHA, ADA, taxation of bowling, soft drinks and more or lack thereof empty lanes in the summer months. We’ve found lots of ways to make a whole lot of money together: major league Sports Clubs awhile back; lifting soda sales by placing Pepsi glass front vendors at every center; Dippin’ Dots ice cream vending machines at approx. 23 locations; helping centers build rock-solid databases close to 500,000 kids/ families via the BCSC Kids Bowl Free program. I’ve enjoyed our time together and am proud of the accomplishments we’ve achieved together. Now, with your help, there is one last goal that I would like to reach. And, I’m going to need your help to make it a reality.

I would like to MAX out my golf tournament with 144 golfers and members at our annual meeting! I would like to welcome everyone on the course, ESPECIALLY if you’ve never played golf before! You can play one hole or 18. It doesn’t matter, because this event is all about FUN and getting to know your fellow member centers, partners and CELEBRATING THE BCSC! Join us solo and we’ll pair you with a great foursome or bring three team members to complete your own group. Your team will appreciate the chance of getting away for a day, and I will take comfort in knowing that you will be there to celebrate my retirement from the BCSC while participating in your own BCSC Membership meeting. Call me at 818-789-0900 and I will take care of everything. Or, fill out the enclosed sign-up sheet and fax it back to me today. All the best, Scott
