THE CAFETERIA AND COFFEE SHOP The cafeteria uses finger scanners to verify payments from your account to buy lunch. Cash can also be used to purchase food items, but it’s quicker to use your finger, so keep your account topped up. Whilst in the cafeteria, talk quietly. Don’t play with or share any food

or utensils (allergies). Before returning your tray and utensils, ensure that where you sat was left tidy. Ensure that trays, plates, and utensils do not leave the cafeteria. Likewise, food should not be taken out of the cafeteria. Drinks can only be taken as far as the field’s yellow line.

If you bring a packed lunch, take it to the cafeteria and eat with your friends. You are trusted to choose a sensible, healthy, nutritious lunch, so be sensible when choosing your food. The coffee shop has time restricted access for student purchases.

Moving between Classes: Your timetable allows you enough time to be prompt for the start of the lesson. Be sensible and do not abuse this - you are expected to be on time for every lesson.

AFTER SCHOOL ACTIVITIES It is important that you have a variety of activities in your life. Research has shown that students who perform best have a good balance of academics and other activities in their life. This is also a good time in your life to try new sports, pastimes, and games, these in turn can help you broaden your friendship base. SFS provides a selection of extra-curricular activities and you will also be given the opportunity to mix with your Middle School friends. When you sign up for an activity you need to understand that teachers

have undertaken a commitment to provide you with this service. As such, you should commit to attend the activity each week.

GUIDELINES FOR SOCIAL EVENTS Social events are sponsored by the PTA, Student Council and/or your teachers. They will end no later than 10 pm. Guests from other schools in Seoul will not be admitted. Students should make arrangements to be picked up from the venue no later than 5 minutes after the advertised finish time for the activity. All normal school rules apply. Once a student enters the venue they do not leave the venue - if they do leave, they will not be allowed to re-enter and must leave the school grounds— their parent will be called by the supervisors. As a student in Key Stage 3 you will have opportunities to socialise with your friends in the Middle School. You should always remember that continued cooperation with other For different events, SFBS puts the emphasis on clean and neat attire, without extremes of hair or clothing styles. Come inappropriately dressed and you may be asked to go home. No holed, frayed or cut clothing, all clothing should be hemmed. DISCIPLINE SFBS operates a Positive Discipline ethos - eg ‘please walk’ as opposed to ‘don’t run’. We don’t have many rules as we treat you as young adults and expect you to behave and respond accordingly. However, occasionally students don’t respond to this approach and so, here are a few consequences should that apply to you.... Report Card If a student continues to behave below the expectations of the school, they may be placed on a report card. This will highlight one or two key areas for improvement. The student would be required to submit this card at the beginning of each lesson. Each teacher would then record whether the student’s behaviour achieved, or at least was working towards, their targets, so helping the student focus on the areas they need to improve. It is hoped that after a week, improvement would be seen and the student would then continue to act appropriately without the support of the report card. If behaviour was still not acceptable, further disciplinary action would be taken.

any kind of bullying, excessive aggressive/ inappropriate behaviour towards another student or a member of staff, the student would be seen by the Key Stage Leader and/ or the Headteacher and appropriate action taken, in consultation with the student’s parents. Short Detention Below are listed examples of repeated behaviour which would lead to a short detention: • late homework; • untidy locker; • failure to take the correct equipment to a class; • scruffy appearance; • being late for a lesson; • inappropriate displays of affection. This is not an exhaustive list but gives an idea of the type of action that would lead to this punishment. Long Detention Below are listed examples of behaviour which would lead to a long detention: • repeated short detentions; • swearing; • aggressive/ inappropriate behaviour towards other students or a member of staff.

This is not an exhaustive list, but Further Action In the case of extreme inappropriate gives an idea of the type of action behaviour by a student. e.g. stealing, that would lead to this punishment.

BULLYING The British School does not tolerate the emotional or physical abuse involved in older/ younger, superior/ inferior, stronger/weaker type relationships. This includes, but is not limited to:

• forced signs of respect; • forced borrowing of lunch cards, money, or other items of value; • malicious name calling or teasing; • repeated exclusion or physical/ emotional harassment; implied or open threats;

• any type of cyber bullying. If you are bullied or know of someone else who is being bullied: SAY SOMETHING! Any form of bullying is totally unacceptable and will always be dealt with severely.

SCHOOL BUSES If you ride an SFS bus, your parents have signed an agreement stating that you will obey the bus rules. The Activities Director is in charge of the buses and deals with any problems that may arise. He has an office in the Business Office (access from the field side).

Missed the Bus? If you miss the bus, do not try to go home on your own. Return to school and notify Mrs. Koh or the Headteacher. If the school is closed or no-one is available, see the guard at the Elementary School lobby or at the guard’s pagoda by the Lyso Centre building.

Can you ride the bus to a friend’s house? If you are intending to go to a friend’s house and do not usually ride that bus you need to get a bus pass from Mrs. Koh, the School Secretary, at morning break.

If that doesn’t help, the cell phone numbers of Dr. Gray and Mr. McOrist are posted on the main school entrance doors.

This is granted on a space available basis only.

Can I ride the Activity Bus? The activity bus,— called the “Late Bus” by the students, is not for students that stay late after school to play with friends.

SFS ID CARDS Each KS3 student will get an SFS picture ID card. This will allow you to borrow materials from the Media Commons (MC), use the cloud printers and ride the late bus. Riding the late bus without an ID card will

cost 10,000 won and you will need a bus pass from Mrs. Koh. If you lose your ID card, you can get a temporary bus pass from Mrs. Koh for free. A new ID card however, will cost W20,000.

To ride the late bus you must be a regular bus rider, be staying after school for tutoring, study in the SMC or in an organised activity, and have an SFS ID card. You may also see Mrs. Koh and pay 10,000 won. The bus will not take you to your regular stop but to a central location—see Mrs Koh to find out which stop is closest to your home. Make sure your parents know you are going to ride the late bus and you could be as late as 7pm getting home. You may NOT leave school and then come back to take the late bus. If you do, you risk losing all bus privileges and/or possible further sanctions.

Do not lend your ID card to other students. Using another person’s ID card to ride the buses can result in both of you losing library and bus privileges and/or possible further sanctions.
